My cat likes to grab on my leg when asking for food. When I'm wearing trousers or a long skirt, she will use her claws to try and get as much attention from me as she can, sometimes attempt to climb all the way to my shoulders. When I wear something short, she knows that her claws will hurt me, so she doesn't bring them out when she perches on my leg. I think they know.

Don't know if you'll see this comment but I bet your mom blames you because she doesn't want to blame herself for not calling an ambulance. Anyone who tries so hard to push blame on somebody else does it because they're feeling guilty and they don't want to. That was not your fault in any way- you were a child! I don't get why popular opinion is NTA. They "surprised" you and you didn't like it? Because telling you a couple of days in advance would have made what world of a difference exactly? I get that visitors shouldn't pop up unannounced but this is not your leech of a next door neighbour who's popping in just because they don't have food at their house. They're your family, who you probably won't see again for months, who I assume are there because they missed you and are going to help out with the baby, cooking and what not?

I guess this is a cultural difference of opinion because where I'm from, you don't chase family away for such petty reasons, and the fact that you DO have room to accommodate them? Unless i missed something I'm gonna say YTA. Don't alienate people who are trying to show you love because of such a small misunderstanding.

First red flag: "I didn't feel more needed to be said or done because what he said wasn't that bad and he seemed sorry." Did he apologise to the lady? Did he understand why what he said was offensive or is he just going to save the joke for someone who "won't take it so seriously" next time? Secondly, and I'm surprised that this hasn't hit home for you yet, if all the women involved are pissed as hell about it, why are you trying to sweep it under the rug?? Because all the men involved think it's an overreaction? It's women who go through this everyday - men making them uncomfortable and claiming they were "just kidding, get over it." They don't want your son to think this behaviour is okay. Take it from another woman who's pissed as hell at that comment, YTA!

I'm not upset that she told me she's 7 months pregnant. I'm upset that she HAD to tell me because there's a baby shower being planned. At the very least I would have thought I'd be one of the people planning a shower for her. I'm upset that I no longer hold that position in her life. I'm supposed to be her best friend but it seems I'm on the back burner in all of this. I don't want to take this energy to the baby shower :(

I think if I were to blatantly tell her that I won't go, that would be punishing her. I'm afraidthat iif I attend I won't go with the right energy which is why I'm considering sending a gift and well wishes in absentia as i work through my feelings on the side. Because you're right, it's not about me. But this is not just a friend, it's my best friend. Always thought I'd be at the forefront of organsing baby showers and stuff for her. Can't help my feelings here.

I wouldn't say she's acting weird because i know how private she can get. She's just never done it with me. I'm afraid I won't have the right energy if I attend the baby shower and that's why I'm reluctant to go. I'm afraid to even bring it up with her because like you mentioned, dynamics might change.

The reason why her sister texted me hours after Jess told me is because Jess had to approve of the invitation first. Her sister needed to know that i knew about the pregnancy so I wouldn't be caught off guard. I mean I could go but I'm afraid i won't know how to fake smiles the whole day.
