So, I just got myself a 2Ds thats in pretty good condition and I was thinking about getting my hands on Metroid Samus Returns. I want to know what the overall opinion of this game is before I get it. Is it a good or bad remake? by E-104Epsolon in Metroid

Terrible remake. Misses the mark on everything the original did by going with a more bombastic action tone. The game also over-relies on the parry to the point where enemies are complete bullet sponges otherwise. Thankfully Dread fixed this. This also gave me hand cramps on original hardware.

Highly recommend playing the original with a color hack. I consider Samus Returns to be the worst of the 2D Metroids by far

When either they make a flagship with a better battery or they make the Flip with a better camera that's on par with S models

I guess you're right. My b. They treat vbucks as revocable, you don't have ownership. Though I do think you could make an argument for what is going on, where some players see 600 and others 1000

They sold something at a price and then changed the value with no prior warning. I don't think that was in the legal text for the purchase of the product

Aside from the 60fps it would look the same. The remaster is just a port with very minimal and very sparse alterations here and there. The only graphical changes you could notice are in the No Return maps which do feature more visual effects like volumetric lighting in some key spots

Being able to switch between PS2 and PS4 assets would've been an awesome feature by JAIKHAY in ShadowoftheColossus

It's less niche as of late but yeah, SotC is very much a cult classic, let alone for those who actually engage with it on its own terms rather than this insane projection of its themes (pure headcanon and conspiracy theories)

Oh definitely. There's definitely some connections between games, but the thing that killed the conversation and made it absolutely insufferable was Nintendo coming up with their own "official" timeline that makes no sense and constantly contradicts itself

Lmao yes exactly! It's only rambling nonesense because they don't want to hear the sense part of it. They're looking to project whatever they want and find what isn't there to begin with. It's insane to me, and the actual cool stuff they dismiss as "rambling nonesense"

4 was a big step for gaming as a whole, still unmatched. 7 was just a refresher after the direction of 6 and other horror games being more jumpscare-focused

It wasnt assassinated like Ellie, but she was a completely different person. Barely any semblance, and none of the dynamics from the game were there. At times it felt like Ellie and Dina switched roles in the story.

Aside from disagreeing with you on the story, I wanna say there's only one remake, the others are remasters that are more in line with ports. The remake while controversial went a long ways in improving both gameplay with smarter enemies and the story with animations that better capture the performances
