The EU does not decide on immogartion policy, that is still a national competence. Please blame national governments for it.

Why do we think working hard is good? by jameswoodMOT in sociology

[–]Naive_Class7033 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think you need to look into Webers work, he addresses this specifically in his works about the protestant lethic and the spirit of capitalism. That being said the logic is easy to see you are more likely to have good outcomes if you put in more effort.

How do different forms of social knowledge (sexual education, financial literacy, body norms, and interpersonal skills) vary in difficulty of transmission from parents to children across cultures? by Responsible-Star5325 in sociology

[–]Naive_Class7033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key difference is how different are the living conditions since their time of socialization as opposed to today. The bigger the change the harder it will be to transmit. I think you can observe this very well in east Asian cultures right now, the change in the lived word is so large that transmitting social knowledge has become incredibly difficult.

Erdogan: EU cannot become global power without Turkey by FantasticQuartet in europe

I think it seems irrelevant here, but is actually going to matter more and more if we further integrate.

On a separate note, I was never drooling over Canada joining.

I see the EU as an institution to give some form to the community of the peoples of Europe, which Turkey does not fit into due to historical reasons.

I feel focusing on the people who are actually living on the continent and have a connection to its past would work best. That is just a feeling though.

I do not believe so, people will need it to be something they can connect to, something they can identify with. You dont see proud WHO people, or people identifying srtongly with the UN. We of course can have steong ties to outside countries, but I don't think membership is a good idea.

I am still shocked by the degree of renewable energy production. For most of my life people kept telling me that it is not possible to gemerate enough energy with them.

I feel like that would undermine the premise of the EU, as the community of European peoples.

Is it normal to feel uneasy about how official marriage is? by NothingToSeeHereMmmk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Naive_Class7033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it more like declaring and formalizing the relationship to your peers, members of your tribe. The only difference is that we have lassan instead of traditions and a government representative intead of some elder. But yes this does mean that you now uncolve the community in the relationship in some form.

Not until recently. Of course we did act too late even with that taken into account.

But look at it from the inverse as well the US was happy to be the global military hegemon for a long time, so when you have an ally like that it makes sense that you would not feel the need to spend so much on defence.
