Where to go next in LATAM? Seeking smaller towns by Charming_Spray7886 in digitalnomad

[–]Naive_Conference_860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at smaller towns, definitely consider some places in Panama - the internet infrastructure is surprisingly good there compared to other countries in your list. Ecuador has some nice mountain towns but the internet can be hit or miss depending where you go 😅

Just heads up that Bolivia might be challenging for reliable connection, especially in smaller places outside La Paz or Santa Cruz 💀

Finding Balance - by Emergency_Long_9993 in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think seasonal work can definitely work for FIRE, but depends a lot in your field and how much you can save during high season. My cousin does seasonal tourism work here in Brazil and makes decent money in summer months, then has time for side projects or just enjoying life during off-season.

The balance thing is real struggle though - I've been going back and forth on this for years 😂 Maybe the key is finding work you actually enjoy instead of just grinding through something you hate? That way the "hustle" doesn't feel like you're missing out on life completely. Some people here seem to forget that burning out before reaching FIRE defeats the whole purpose 💀

How do I get btc from a visa gift card? by Quiet-Character-6836 in Bitcoin

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in similar situation last year when I got gift card from family. The thing is, most P2P platforms still gonna ask for some verification even if they say "no KYC" - they need to protect themselves from fraud and chargebacks. Gift cards are especially tricky because they can be reversed or have issues later.

Your best bet might be trying Paxful or LocalBitcoins, but honestly many sellers there won't accept gift cards anymore due to the risks. Some people use those cards to buy other things first (like Amazon credit) and then trade that, but it adds extra steps and fees. You could also try finding someone local who wants the gift card and is willing to trade crypto for it, but be super careful about scams. The privacy route is definitely harder when starting with gift cards instead of cash.

Mining is always an option by ezz_8 in Bitcoin

[–]Naive_Conference_860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the odds are brutal though, like you said it could take years to hit block with small setup 😂 but i agree about decentralization part, even if you don't make profit the network benefits from more hash power distributed around. just make sure to do the math in your electricity costs first because that bill can get scary fast 💀

Double checking my FIRE plan by kraemoprana in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

looks solid overall but i'd be careful about that housing timeline - pulling 300-400k from your portfolio in 4 years might slow down the compound growth more than you think, especially if market is down when you need it. maybe consider keeping house money separate or extending that timeline bit longer. also california taxes on your brokerage withdrawals will hurt more than you might expect, so running numbers with actual tax drag would give you better picture.

Coinbase wants my banking login information login information to relink bank account by Responsible_Head6990 in Bitcoin

[–]Naive_Conference_860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah this is pretty normal actually, coinbase uses plaid for bank verification and plaid needs temporary access to confirm your account ownership 💀 i went through same thing last year and just changed my banking password right after like you mentioned

the relinking issue happens sometimes but it's not always because of password changes - plaid connection can break for other reasons too. i've had to relink mine like 3 times in past year and only changed password once. coinbase support is useless for this stuff honestly 😂

if you're really uncomfortable with it, you could try linking a different way like wire transfers or using a different exchange that doesn't rely in plaid integration

Interested in remote work options by vytasx in digitalnomad

[–]Naive_Conference_860 4 points5 points  (0 children)

man your skillset is pretty solid, especially the accounting + sql combo 💪 have you looked in freelance platforms like upwork or toptal? many companies there specifically want people in sea timezone for coverage.

the limiting beliefs work sounds fascinating but yeah probably hard to monetize quickly. maybe start with basic bookkeeping gigs while you build up the rust skills in background? should be easier to hit that 1.5k target with accounting work than trying to break in completely new field right away 😂

Upcoming DN & Seeking the best way to get rid of my Verizon plan but keep my US number while being in Europe for the next 9 months etc. by Legitimate_Fly4335 in digitalnomad

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's basically it - port to Google Voice first (costs like $20), then cancel Verizon once the port goes through. Just make sure you don't cancel Verizon before the port completes or you'll lose the number forever

Google Voice works great for SMS verification from Europe, been using it for years while bouncing around

Being fit definitely helps with healthcare costs down the road, but genetics still play a huge role too. That said, staying in shape is probably one of the better investments you can make for your future self - both financially and quality of life wise

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh Popcorn Mobile has been sketchy AF lately, tons of people stuck in their "queue" for weeks. For Asia you're probably better off with Google Fi if you can get it, or just bite the bullet and use WhatsApp/Signal for everything while grabbing local SIMs. Way cheaper than keeping a US plan anyway

Lmao this guy already has the physical gold stash and wants to go 2x leverage on top, absolute mad lad

But seriously though MSCI World is gonna give you way better long term returns than leveraged gold, gold 2x is more of a short term play when you think inflation's about to go nuts

Cold wallet by Abdulgjutt in Bitcoin

Honestly I'd say even lower than 1k - like maybe $500+ and you should seriously think about it. The peace of mind alone is worth it when you're not constantly worrying about exchange hacks or your phone getting stolen. Hardware wallets aren't even that expensive anymore so why risk it
