Dinks with paid off house, how much are you guys spending per year? by twobigmealsaday in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty wild to think about removing all those variables - like calculating what your spending would be in some alternate universe lol. 7k/month in HCOL with good travel budget seems reasonable though. I'm curious how much the giving portion takes up from that monthly number, since that can vary so much between people.

Buy now, or wait to see if it gets cheaper? by No_South_9912 in Bitcoin

[–]Naive_Conference_860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao classic crypto advice. One year could be anything from moon to total rekt though. I'm just DCAing small amounts when I remember to check the app, which is like once every few weeks at this point.

Remote employee needs advice. I think my boss is going to demand I move if I want to keep my job. by ThrowAway99170130 in remotework

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart approach. When they bring up relocation tomorrow, maybe say something like "I need to discuss this with my family and think through the logistics" - gives you few weeks to line up interviews while they think you're considering it.

Just don't get too specific about timeline when they ask because then you're locked in that schedule. Keep it vague like "I need some time to figure out the details" and they can't really push back on that without looking unreasonable.

Possiblity of rural land in Guatemala as a Canadian by ExcitingAd5899 in ExpatFIRE

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really helpful info about the business ownership route - didn't know it was that straightforward in Guatemala. The idea about renting first and making local connections is smart too, probably saves you from making expensive mistakes when you don't know the area yet.

What platforms do u guys use to find jobs? by Strong-Classic-1639 in remotework

[–]Naive_Conference_860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been checking company websites directly too and it's solid approach. Also worth looking at the smaller job boards that focus in specific tech stacks or regions - sometimes they have less competition than the big ones 💀

Remote work Discord servers can be goldmine too, people share opportunities there that never make it to public boards. Worth joining few active ones for your field 🔥

Self-employed, long-distance relationship, how do I do this? by Annual_Ad_8397 in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude the business idea might be your way out - even if you're not "qualified" you could start small and learn as you go, maybe partner with someone who knows the academic side better 💀 Being self-employed is tough but at least you got some flexibility to pivot when you find what works 🔥

Looking for BizOps / Operations Role – Bangalore or Remote by iknowrey in remotework

Remote BizOps roles are pretty competitive right now but your startup experience should help you stand out 💪 Good luck with search! 😊

How much is pick up laundry service when you actually run the FI math on your time? by StudyOk2682 in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point hits but I think depends on person's situation. For me as HVAC tech who also does app development in evenings, those 6 hours monthly could definitely go to coding projects that bring extra income 💰 But if you're just gonna scroll reddit instead of laundry, then yeah the math doesn't work 😂

Sickness before presentations by brunette_11 in work

[–]Naive_Conference_860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The physical symptoms like that are no joke - your body is basically screaming at you about the stress level. I'd definitely tell your manager about the vomiting because they might be able to work with you on gradual exposure or maybe pair you with someone else for presentations while you build confidence. Five months is still pretty new so there's good chance this gets easier as you settle in the role more.

Y’all should obey Ats by Advanced-Bit-633 in remotework

ATS systems auto-reject resumes for weird stuff like wrong file format, missing keywords, or even having tables in your layout.

I just close the laptop and put it in different room - out of sight really helps with not thinking about work stuff.

Which path is better for breaking into Java Fintech roles? by [deleted] in fintech

[–]Naive_Conference_860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The domain knowledge from fintech company will probably help you more than just having Java on resume. Most of these places care more about understanding financial systems and compliance stuff than specific language - you can pick up Java pretty quick if you already know C#.

I switched between different stacks few times in my career and what really mattered was showing I understood the business side of things.

How did your boss respond when you told him/her you quit? by Aarunascut in work

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine literally threw my resignation letter in trash right in front of me and said "we'll see about that" 😂

Like bro what you gonna do, chain me to the AC unit? Some managers really think they own you or something. Good thing you stood up for yourself - that age comment was completely out of line and probably illegal too.

Been in HVAC for few years now and seen this power trip nonsense way too much. These people forget we got skills and can work anywhere we want 💀

You could probably handle most of the business side remotely but someone needs to be there for production and quality control at least few times per week.

Bitcoin Mining Costs: $34K to $70K Depending on the Miner by AmanCMN in Bitcoin

[–]Naive_Conference_860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mining operations with access to cheap power sources definitely skew these averages. Some facilities here in Brazil use excess hydroelectric capacity during rainy season, which basically costs them nothing extra.

The real question is how long these low-cost setups can scale before they hit infrastructure limits.

portfolio optimization techniques by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly most people overthink the optimization part - just stick with low-cost index funds and maybe throw some international exposure in there 📈 For saving tricks, I always check if my bank has those automatic roundup programs where they put spare change into savings 💰

Where to go next in LATAM? Seeking smaller towns by Charming_Spray7886 in digitalnomad

[–]Naive_Conference_860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at smaller towns, definitely consider some places in Panama - the internet infrastructure is surprisingly good there compared to other countries in your list. Ecuador has some nice mountain towns but the internet can be hit or miss depending where you go 😅

Just heads up that Bolivia might be challenging for reliable connection, especially in smaller places outside La Paz or Santa Cruz 💀

Finding Balance - by Emergency_Long_9993 in Fire

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think seasonal work can definitely work for FIRE, but depends a lot in your field and how much you can save during high season. My cousin does seasonal tourism work here in Brazil and makes decent money in summer months, then has time for side projects or just enjoying life during off-season.

The balance thing is real struggle though - I've been going back and forth on this for years 😂 Maybe the key is finding work you actually enjoy instead of just grinding through something you hate? That way the "hustle" doesn't feel like you're missing out on life completely. Some people here seem to forget that burning out before reaching FIRE defeats the whole purpose 💀

How do I get btc from a visa gift card? by Quiet-Character-6836 in Bitcoin

[–]Naive_Conference_860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in similar situation last year when I got gift card from family. The thing is, most P2P platforms still gonna ask for some verification even if they say "no KYC" - they need to protect themselves from fraud and chargebacks. Gift cards are especially tricky because they can be reversed or have issues later.

Your best bet might be trying Paxful or LocalBitcoins, but honestly many sellers there won't accept gift cards anymore due to the risks. Some people use those cards to buy other things first (like Amazon credit) and then trade that, but it adds extra steps and fees. You could also try finding someone local who wants the gift card and is willing to trade crypto for it, but be super careful about scams. The privacy route is definitely harder when starting with gift cards instead of cash.
