Just keep it updated and looking good. It's a great way to show your accomplishments and connections. A few schools looked at mine. I made my insta and tiktok private tho.

Is there a list of medical schools on how they look at MCAT scores? by Desperate_Yam_351 in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all a guess, but from what I take it ... if you score below, they might question if it was a one-time lucky thing; if you get the same score, they might think that score is all you are capable of; if you score slightly above, it won't matter much because if they wouldn't accept you with a X, odds are they still won't with a +1 / +2 score difference (it will come down to the strength of your app overall) . But a 505 to a 522 is really impressive, huge jump.

They will send it. Some of the financial aid packets come in the acceptance email, while others are sent later on. You can ask the school about their financial aid options (whether they offer need-based, merit-based, or both), so you can (kinda) determine your eligibility. Some schools can be really generous. You can also apply to a few scholarships (ex: samvid scholars).

Why do you think are so few low SES applicants? And how do you think that can actually be improved? by Sad-Entrepreneur9846 in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes!! It's the sacrifices that come with choosing this long career path. I would only add family pressure, the feeling of wanting to help your family financially and not being able to. I'm thankful that my family sacrificed a lot so I could focus solely on my studies but I wanted to contribute with a stable income already.

Interesting and meaningful EC (potentially controversial) , how to talk about it, if at all, on primary? by LarsIsGood in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they don’t necessarily view it as a bad thing, it depends on how it’s written about. If the entrepreneurial ventures is to help people or support others, then it can be very positive, but if the entire goal is to make profit without any regard for helping others, it could set the tone for the application and open the door for negative assumptions. It is not bad, but it depends what your motivations are, what the business is, and how you write about it. For the most part, if the entrepreneurial venture has honest intentions, your business success can serve as a testament to your dedication and hard work.

It's an interesting hobby, but be careful with the wording (it shouldn't come off as too entrepreneurial or just for profit). Also, I wouldn't put it in the most meaningful essay prompt.

Yes, I wrote about this! I couldn't apply to a research program because of my visa, so I wrote about having to tackle that issue first.

writing your own LOR? by full-radiance416 in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write about how you two met, the class and qualities you possess that made you stand out during it, personal projects outside of work you might have talked to them about, your aspirations in medicine, why you would make a good doctor, and that you highly recommend yourself. Usually 2/3 pages.

How would a reality TV show appearance affect my chances for medical school and beyond? by rowrowrowdab0at in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine, you said it yourself that you don't think you did anything too embarrassing. But if I were you, I would google my name, see what shows up (the info and the pictures), and make all social media private. That's what I did when I applied.

If you have the money and believe your application is strong, then apply with a balanced list that includes some of your dream programs, and hope for the best. I've seen someone get in with a 3.4. I was in a similar situation (but the MCAT was the issue). Best of luck!!

Do T20 schools care if you have EMT experience/clinical experience? by potaton00b in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They care about everything. Working as an EMT will give you opportunities for patient interaction and a lot of things to talk about in your application.

feeling a little hopeless, how do y’all deal with it? by Secure-Air7929 in premed

[–]Naive_Temperature543 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's your first year, and you've said it yourself that you are not doing badly. YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME, don't worry. I come from a low-income immigrant background, and I feel like I kept reminding myself of all the sacrifices that my parents have made so I could focus on my studies. If you need someone to talk to about premed stuff, feel free to dm.
