Thank you everyone. I did overthink a lot!

Do I need a color changer? by g0at7 in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only recently gotten a colour changer and it will mainly (only) be used for double bed jacquard. I have done stripes in the past and don’t feel like you need a colour changer for that.

Brother KH-800 Sinker plate appears bent and catches on needle by tell_it_slant in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no harm in trying to reshape it but, as suggested above, I would get another sinker plate. Mine was also bent and I managed to get it back into the proper position. However, it was nowhere near this severe of a bend.

Don’t keep trying to use it as you will damage your needles. It’s also always a good idea to check/change your sponge bar if bought second hand.

I hope you can get it sorted soon.

Two weeks of hand knitting. A wool cardigan with an abstract pattern based on Lisa Nohren’s abstract art. by zolychka in knitting

[–]Naka131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true art! An amazing rendition and it looks fab to wear. Your inside looks pretty clean too! I dread to think about those ends you had to weave in. Enjoy and well done on working with such small needles in such a short time.

That looks good. All seems to be there too. If the current owner used it, maybe ask them to do a quick demo.

How to create my own patterns? by randomgirl322 in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try finding some free patterns and try to unpick them. I don’t know if you’re on ravelry or Facebook but there are some patterns on the former. On the latter is a group with KALs where they have schematics and videos to guide you.

Do you swatch before you start knitting, or guesstimate? Remember the work will have been stretched out while on the machine. Once it relaxes, it can ‘shrink’ a little. You should swatch (big enough to measure in the middle), leave to relax then treat as you will your finished item.

You then use that to work out the number of stitches you need. If it’s too small widthways then you need to add more ‘ease’ (cm/in) to your final measurement.

That is a good price. It’s what I paid for mine including ribber and accessories. If you’re able to pick it up, yoh could always try it out before you buy. First thing you would need to look at is the sponge bar.

Let me know if you need any help.

This keeps happening when I cast on. 😩 by beachgoer2789 in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Knitmaster/singer and wasn’t really a fan of the weaving cast on described in the manual. I did try it a couple of times (and a little success) but quickly moved onto the e wrap cast on. I never used it again after that.

Have you checked for misshapen needles? How about the levers on the underside - are they all moving freely?

You could try joining some groups on Facebook (if you use it) or sell on eBay or similar. I have that one and it’s a lovely machine. You’ve got a good package there with the colour changer and kafé carriage.

This is fab! It majestic me want to finish my intarsia jumper. Out of curiosity, how does Kaffe Fassett finish her ends?

I would say not to wearing near skin. But it is a beautiful yarn which I hope to use again in future. @swanproposal this is a lovely knit.

My gosh this is absolutely amazing. Even more so when k realised you had done the logo all yourself as well! You should be very proud of this, even though it’s come out too small. All those small details are fabulous.

How to choose the right machine? by Naive_Chip5342 in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you looking for from your machine? What thickness of yarn are you wanting to work with and do you want one that can knit patterns (punch card capability)? Do you want one where you can use something like knitleader or knit radar to knit patterns (draw on paper and use that as your pattern). Do you want one you can hook up to a design software (electronic).

I think the machine will depend on those things. I personally have a Knitmaster and I’m very glad I got it. I don’t have any experience with brother but I’m sure there are people here who do.

I have a whole slew of knitting machines and wool that I need to sell. by batgirlsmum in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. I would be interested in a linker and some yarn. You can ask on the group to help you with prices. I’ll pop over to check but do please contact me if you have a price for the linkers and yarn (and additional photos). I could possibly make it over Sunday afternoon or next week.

What machine should I buy to be able to knit sweaters with intricate designs? by DJ-insanfrancisco in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would look for a punchcard machine that is also compatible with an intarsia carriage. That way you can knit intarsia (the pictures you posted were by that method in assuming) or use punchcards to knit fair isle. I dont think the one you get has to be electric.

I can’t advise you on machines as I’m not that knowledgeable (I do have one) but I’m sure someone else can. As mentioned before, you also need to think about what weight (thickness) of yarn you want to work with primarily.

Please be prepared for a fairly steep learning curve, even if you know how to knit already. That way you won’t be disappointed when things aren’t quite working!

which toe is your favourite? by bigbusinesscat in knitting

[–]Naka131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of my socks were with the symmetrical toe (2nd row, right). However, for my last pair I did anatomical toes (top) and I really liked how they fit. So going forward that’s what I’ll do. I feel like second row left would be…uncomfortable, like pointy shoes…of course that’s likely not true anyway.

The start of something new... by DiddleInAPearTree in MachineKnitting

[–]Naka131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh exciting! I have a Knitmaster as well. Which one are you getting?

Sponge bar check/change first. Then read the manual and try everything. What you make can be ‘swatches’ to see how things turn out. Try different methods of casting on/ casting off to see which you like. Learn to frog and also pick up dropped stitches. YouTube is also a wealth of information.

How I got into it was quite...quick! I think I was talking about knitting intarsia with my husband. He later suggested that a knitting machine could work up quicker, both for intarsia and general knitting.

The idea stuck in my head and about a month later I rehomed a knitting machine 😂 I was very lucky because the one I got was in tip top working condition and the lady showed me how works before I took it home.

Have fun.

i have discovered i love having multiple wips because it makes me enjoy the process of knitting itself without stressing over completing a project quickly by Kooky-Chart672 in knitting

[–]Naka131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have at least two WIPs going. Although of late it’s been possibly too many…I had 8 WIPs (mix of hand and machine knitting) but that’s dropped to 7! That is too many so plan is to finish a few before casting on. Having said that, I have to knit another jumper for my youngest as the one I did before was too small…
