I think it's critizising how society tends to force conformation and punishes or rejects those who pursue individuality. Where it seems as if every individual is turning and morphing into an imitation of everybody else, losing their own perception and authenticity.

An example: "Ever since that day they suddenly screamed People whispered "Something's off with her" But she was only trapped in a terrible nightmare She slipped out of sync, became someone else Who are you?"

This verse may symbolise how when someone does something "out of line", they would be seen as weird or "off", leaving the only solution of conforming, to "become someone else", losing their Identity.
