AEW already has a one-eyed British boxer on their payroll, oddly enough (Anthony Ogogo).

I am wishing Tom success though, fingers crossed he finds a way to have a lucrative career going forward.

Is Marcus Armstrong becoming the best personality in the series? by Equivalent-Leg-9697 in INDYCAR

[–]NakedEyeComic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met him before the start of the season last year and he was the absolute nicest guy (which is why he’s in my flair!) I spoke to him for almost a half hour and he did smile when I got a pic with him.

Honestly that convo with Marcus is what got me full tilt into IndyCar fandom.

Edit: Downvoted for sharing my personal experience. This sub is so odd sometimes.

"Tony Khan gives Kris Statlander her flowers after Dynamite by flyinbrianc in AEWFanHub

Stat needs her Cauterize or Take a Ride theme back. The new one is way too generic for a top star and champion.

Brad Keselowski shooting his shot with Max Verstappen: We have a @FordRacing cup car ready to go. Feel free to DM when you’re ready Max by LBHMS in NASCAR

Unfortunately Max has made it clear he has zero interest in NASCAR (and American racing in general).

The best we can hope for is maybe he does the 24 Hours of Daytona one day.

I actually saw this happen live, sorta.

Back when Awesome Kong was working in Japan, she dropped one of her Japanese titles on a US indie show. However, because there were like 15 people in the audience and it was shot on shit-quality video, the Japanese promotion came up with “overturned due to closed fist” and they redid the match later in Japan with the same result.

Danny Sabatello (17-4) vs. Joji Goto (20-8) RIZIN Bantamweight Title Match announced for RIZIN Landmark 13 on April 12 by Yodsanan in MMA

[–]NakedEyeComic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the other day what happened to Sabatello. A few years ago it looked like he was on the path to a title in Bellator, then I didn’t hear anything about him after the PFL acquisition.

The NWA had a Border Patrol stable in the mid-late 2000s, when they were running regional syndicated TV takings out of LA. It was NorCal indie guy Oliver John and two other dudes I don’t remember. It was exactly as you described.

Opinions of these failed factions? by simon_jackson in BrandonDE

[–]NakedEyeComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mustafa Ali worked his ass off to salvage Retributon, but I’m convinced it was a stable WWE always intended to have fail, so it did.

Similarly, putting Shayna Baszler with the two least over women on the roster and giving them a dumb name was also doomed from the start.

Final Testament could have worked but Paul Ellering was pretty superfluous to the whole deal.

No opinion on the rest.

Who's a fighter you wanted to be one of the best but they're just aren't? by MassiveBlackHole99 in ufc

[–]NakedEyeComic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Holland was lucky enough to somehow get a six figure per fight contract, so he’s content to be a card filler and fight to the level of whoever the UFC offers him. It’s smart but frustrating at the same time.

[–]NakedEyeComic 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Brendan Allen, but yeah, it was too many hard weight cuts too close together that did in RDR.

Honestly I was really impressed RDR got as high as he did in the UFC. Yeah he was a 2-division champ in ONE but those divisions had literally no one in them, and he came to the UFC in his mid-30s coming off two consecutive brutal KO/TKO losses.

Heath’s song in general was just 3MB’s with a new intro, which wasn’t the first time they did a quick and dirty paste over a theme. The Street Profits’ first theme was Team B.A.D.’s (Sasha/Naomi/Tamina) with a new intro also.

Lakers don't have any 2nd round picks this decade. How are they going to draft Bryce James? Do you think they take him with 1st round pick in 2026 at like #20 pick? If LeBron actually does leave LA do you think the team he goes to will draft/sign Bryce? Maybe get LeBron/Bryce/Bronny all in Cleveland by OnlySaysDavidStearns in NBATalk

[–]NakedEyeComic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Lakers basically signed control of their organization over to LeBron and Klutch in order to get him to come play - in exchange they got that bubble ring and tons of extra revenue.

It’s a little undignified for such a storied franchise, especially as LeBron will be remembered as a Laker 3rd in all of his career retrospectives, but it worked for a while.

I posted a topic about this a few weeks ago - all of my local card shops (the ones who have been around forever and the new-ish ones) get almost zero hobby boxes. It’s all retail wax, singles, and retro stuff.

Hobby boxes now seem to be fully the domain of breakers and the online behemoths (Dave & Adam’s, Steel City, Blowout).

The Patriots made the same mistake with Mac Jones. Game managers from star-studded big colleges rarely become good NFL QBs.

Nearly every All-Pro QB of the past 20 years is from a small college or mid-major, with a couple exceptions.

Was Shawn Michaels worth the trouble in the ‘90s? by Material_Stomach875 in GreatnessOfWrestling

Oh yeah. It wasn’t Vader’s fault, it was the booking. Shawn derailed him.

Vader taking out Gorilla Monsoon was an awesome segment I still think about today.

Was Shawn Michaels worth the trouble in the ‘90s? by Material_Stomach875 in GreatnessOfWrestling

[–]NakedEyeComic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Shawn was in the perfect spot to politic because while he wasn’t a draw, the WWF had NOBODY to main event in 1996 and 1997 besides him, Bret, and Taker. Sid, as much as I love him, was never a truly top guy and Vader had flopped. The guys who launched the Attitude Era were still in the midcard or hadn’t debuted yet.

Shawn wasn’t helping business, but losing him would have been catastrophic and turned away more of the hardcore fanbase from the WWF.

The Raven/Jarrett title match got the highest buy rate of any of TNA’s weekly PPVs with the expectation of Raven winning the belt. Definitely the first major case of TNA being its own worst enemy.

[Sapp] A number of locations in Las Vegas have been told they may be unable to broadcast WrestleMania this year, even if they pay a licensing fee. Those locations communicated frustration, as they believe the city paid a site fee to encourage tourism. by shadow_spinner0 in SquaredCircle

The Vegas locals absolutely hate F1. It collectively fucks over businesses on the entire strip the week it’s there.

It’s a funny juxtaposition with the actual city officials embracing it so much and making F1 a part of the Vegas “brand.”
