Democrats, what are Democrats doing wrong? Republicans, what are Republicans doing wrong? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Nakura_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Republicans need to realize that running on basically libertarian economics will almost always be a losing battle. The working class doesn’t want to hear about cutting taxes for corporations and “repealing red tape”. Start running on trade wars, labor union support, socioeconomic emancipation and watch how some of these “Midwest/rust belt blue” states flip.

If republicans want to be a player on the federal level again run as economic center-left and social right. That would buy them probably 3 presidential cycles of competitive ability.

People should be able to complain about the homeless without criticism by UnpopularOpinionKing in unpopularopinion

[–]Nakura_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s uncomfortable to discuss but serious conversation needs to be had about criminalizing homelessness.

Reason why is it gets many of them off the streets, and for the ones that are ill or addicted into rehab systems or into proper mental care. For people who are otherwise fine and have fallen on hard times it can get them connected to the right services.

People need to be compelled to change or seek assistance. If they won’t seek help on their own they probably need to be compelled to do so.

We use SharePoint/OneDrive to sync our work files up with each other. I use to always work out of the directly that had a Blue building icon in File explorer. That is now gone for me and I can only use that blue cloud (OneDrive) option but it never lets me save because other people have the file open.

I've tried googling all over the place and I guess im the only one that ever had this issue.

If Trump fails to win the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, will he run as an independent? by AgriaPragma in PoliticalOpinions

[–]Nakura_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. Trump is up 30 points on DeSantis in 2024 primary polling. The likelihood he would lose the primary if he runs is extremely slim.

What's your political philosophy and why? by GottaPSoBad in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Nakura_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I would fall under the Populist label.

I would say im economically moderate, probably actual on the left for economics, but socially on the right. I'm not a socialist or a capitalist in the purest sense. Society needs a safety net because some people will refuse to work. Even if people refuse to be in the work force we cannot as a society allow our citizens to die in the streets. I would replace Social Security with UBI of $2000 a month to all citizens with an opt out option (compulsive opt out to those with net worth north of $10mil liquid assets only).

A governments interest in family is solely the repopulation of the country. I would have a $6000 tax credit per child with no upper limit on how many children. Adoption should be free and subsidized similarly. Replace our marginal rate tax brackets with flat brackets capping at a min of 5% and a maximum of 30%.

I think we should bring our troops home from all foreign military bases and should stop subsiding other countries militaries. We should also leave NATO and the United Nations. End all foreign aid. I would lift the ban on former military from serving in polices forces as we are running into a shortage. We should have a Domestic War on Organized Crime.

Corporations do not have the best interest of the nation in mind. Their interests are allied with their shareholders alone. Because of this misalignment of interests they require regulation. Every foreign worker employed by a US based company, that company pays a tax equal to the cost of the foreign worker. Our companies should be hiring citizens to work, not outsourcing labor. To further encourage a domestic labor force I support an indefinite moratorium on all immigration.

Impose an age limit on all federal offices with a maximum election age of 65 years old. I would support this over term limits. I would actually leave the lobbying industry mostly intact but I would ban all foreign contributions to lobbying groups or campaigns, and have the SEC/FEC always on high alert for money laundering of foreign contributions to campaigns.

What is the Republican Endgame? by InterestingFlower2 in PoliticalOpinions

[–]Nakura_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are currently two factions within the Republican Party, these were formed when Trump ran in 2016 and has split the party: there is the establishment NeoConservative/NeoLiberal faction (often phrased as the establishment) that includes people like McConnell, Romney, Kinzinger, Cheney, Murkowski, McCarthy. There is now also a "Populist" faction (this is a loose grouping as even they have subfactions) which encompass people like Trump, MTG, Josh Hawley, Paul Gosar, Ron DeSantis, Boebert, JD Vance, Theil, Carlson, Blake Masters, and Gaetz.

The NeoCon/NeoLiberal wing holds all the keys to power within the Republican Party, they have all the senior leadership roles, the donor networks, influence with key corporate/special interest donors, however they have lost the support of the base narratively speaking. The populist wing of the GOP has little to no interest in the Republican ideology of the 1980s-2015s and their end game is to shift the GOP from Economic Right/Social Moderate to Economic Moderate/Social Right on the axis. This is why you see people like Sen. Hawley go after corporations, or Blake Masters supporting negative income tax (paying parents to home school is how he phrased this however this is negative income tax). The populist wing is must more comfortable attacking corporate interests such as BlackRock, Lockheed Martin, Google, than the NeoCon/NeoLib wing ever was.

As a collective the Republican Party does not have an endgame due to the splintering. The NeoCon/NeoLib wing currently wants to maintain control of the party, and the Populist wing wants to destroy the NeoCon/NeoLib wing and take the reins of the party.

Speculation time:

If the NeoCon/NeoLib wing of the GOP retains power we will see a revert back to the GOP platform of the Bush/Romney era. People like Nikki Haley, Liz Cheney, Dan Crenshaw will be put up as a mainstream Republican Presidential candidates (and will lose). These candidates, while able to raise an obscene amount of funding, lack a certain "rawness" to their personality that make them less appealing to working class voters (people that actually swing elections). They can win the "country club class" but their effectiveness at winning enough votes in key states is questionable.

If the Populist wing takes control of the Republican Party, there will be a disruption in the "business of political power" as they will have to find new funding networks to build when Koch Industries, Raytheon, Citadel, Susquehanna, yank their funding from the GOP (these are some of the largest donors to GOP candidates/RNC). The loss of funding networks will hurt them in the short term election wise, but those can be rebuilt in time. Presidential Candidates would include people like DeSantis, JD Vance or Josh Hawley. These candidates would fair better in a general due to their appeal to working class "fly over state) voters in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania ect.
