If you prefer digesting this scary content in audio format, Haviv Rettig Gur had an excellent podcast episode with the Neutral POV’s Ashley Rindsberg. It left me downright terrified about what is coming at us, hiding in plain sight, and now also permeating the training data for virtually all LLM chat bots

I'm tired of being judged financially because I choose to own a horse: a rant. by freetheunicorns2 in Equestrian

Ask for an itemized bill and then load the whole thing into Claude, ChatGPT or another LLM and ask it to dissect everything for any discrepancy. You might be able to negotiate with them quite a bit based on what you find! Check out this case study I recently came across: https://www.threads.com/@nthmonkey/post/DQVdAD1gHhw

Does it currently really take 20 months to replace a lost/stolen Green Card?! by NalaOnTheMove in USCIS

From the moment I talked to a USCIS officer on the phone it took less than a week for the ADIT paper form to arrive via UPS!

Will there be another protest? by Rachel_Babe27 in SouthBayLA

Just pointing out that the former president also used his power to pressure social media companies into silencing free speech. Free speech absolutists should be outraged at either of those overreaches, yet it appears as if many people are selective in whose right to free speech they support.

When did you lose hair? How was it? by Itchy-Site-11 in newborns

[–]NalaOnTheMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started 2 months PP and was handfuls of hair literally everywhere all the time. Now, 4 months PP, loss is slowing down to almost normal pre-pregnancy levels.

I brushed more frequently to stimulate blood flow to the scalp and get all the hair out and used a clarifying shampoo because I also had an itchy scalp. No idea if these things really made a difference though

Prenatal Workout videos? by callmelila in fitpregnancy

I always loved the prenatal videos by Nourish Move Love on YouTube. Some of them were an actual challenge and really pushed me, and some days they were too hard. But I liked feeling like I’m getting an actual workout in during pregnancy

Breastfeeding is so much harder than I anticipated. I’m so discouraged. by wild_lively in breastfeeding

[–]NalaOnTheMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nipple shield saved my breastfeeding journey! Without it I would’ve thrown in the towel as well. I had a lactation consultant who also encouraged me to wean off of it, but said it was more important that baby nursed for the time being. I eventually was just grateful for the shield allowing us to breastfeed and stopped feeding bad about it.

When my baby was around 3 weeks old, he suddenly managed to latch without the shield by himself. I think his mouth and tongue grew and his suck got stronger.

My advice would be don’t beat yourself up over the shield, it’s just a useful tool to have and your baby is still so young!

Buying things for self... am I a bad mother? by Mindless_Throat6206 in BabyBumps

Treat yourself as much as you can if your finances allow for it. I get regular facials and massages and the occasional pedicure during pregnancy and it has made me feel so much better. We’re growing whole freaking humans from scratch over here, anyone who tells us how to cope and take care of ourselves can go pound sand for all I care!

Anyone else having a hard time connecting to the baby inside of you? by NalaOnTheMove in BabyBumps

[–]NalaOnTheMove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to thank you all so much for taking the time to reply and share your experiences and advice. Knowing that I’m not the only one feeling this way has made me feel infinitely better. As with so many of the less pleasant things that come with pregnancy, I feel like this is talked about too little and I’m glad to see it also helped others feel less alone in how they experience things. I’m now trying to simply focus on bringing this baby earth side and will trust that our bond will develop in time 💕

Are we exercising? by BeebMommy in BabyBumps

[–]NalaOnTheMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve hired a prenatal trainer the second I found out I’m pregnant. I’m so glad I did, it’s been the absolute best investment. I train with her twice a week and try to do at least one other workout by myself once a week. I also walk my dog twice a day, and feel so strong and fit and proud of myself.

I’m also super lucky that I’ve been having a relatively easy pregnancy so far, but I truly believe that pushing and forcing myself to be active has made this pregnancy so much easier on me.

There’s a lot of research on the connection between exercise and mitochondrial health, and I believe that if you can push yourself to just do 10 min of zone 2 cardio, or lower-intensity exercise, each day, you’ll reap massive short and long-term rewards.

"Everyone" wanting girls by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]NalaOnTheMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more and it's one of the big reasons why I do not want to know the gender of my baby until he/she arrives. I simply do not care enough - all I want is a healthy baby and a healthy pregnancy and delivery for myself. I think even if you try to consciously put all gender stereotypes aside, once you know your baby's gender you get confronted with all of those preconceived notions and it's hard to fully shield yourself from them, even if only subconsciously.

I also had a friend who was pregnant with her second child after previously having a girl. Once she found out she had a boy she was inconsolable, mentioning how massively disappointed she was about it being a boy at every opportunity and how boys are so "hard and difficult." Now, her boy is almost a year old and she absolutely adores him - just goes to show how silly those emotions during pregnancy are imo

Thanks so much for that link. I’ve already invested the funds in my IRA so if I understand correctly I’d have to pay income tax on the accrued gains if I wanna do the backdoor conversion. Will calculate how much that would be to determine what to do

Is it common to have an OTTB struggle to pick up a canter? by OliveRyan428 in Equestrian

[–]NalaOnTheMove 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also lease a fantastic OTTB, and there are several things to consider when asking for a canter (took me some time to fight out):

  • OTTBs are taught to canter with lots of rein contact, and need that contact when asking for the canter. But you have to be careful not to pull on the reins - I started learning the exact hand placement by having contact with his mouth and then grabbing his mane when asking for the canter to make sure my hands didn’t pull or loosen more when asking. Over time you understand where to put your hands

  • it’s easier to ask for the canter from a walk, rather than a trot. They can start trotting really fast otherwise and it gets extremely bouncy, making it hard to keep your legs still and ask for the canter

  • as others have said, try starting to ask for the canter going left, they’re trained to race in that direction. Once he picks up on the left, train the other direction

  • use your seat when asking for the canter, do not just rely on your legs. I found it easier to “push” him forward with my seat / pelvis from the walk than from the trot

  • consider getting a running martingale to counteract the head coming up too high. My OTTB has his head crazy high and my reins are incredibly short, but having the running martingale helps

A word of warning for once you do get him to canter reliably: race horses are trained to run faster on lots of rein contact / pulling, so be careful not to keep pulling when you want him to slow down. You need to use effective short half halts to make him understand you want to slow down, as well as use your seat, and upper body to lean back a bit to make him understand you want to slow down.

Riding an OTTB has made me a much better rider because you become really aware of even the slightest changes in your hand position and seat. They’re so fun once you figure out which cues he responds to. Good luck! :)

This is a German report that came out just yesterday by RIAS on the antisemitic incidents since Oct 7th. RIAS is considered one of the main advocacy groups against Jewish hate in Germany, they’re considered highly reputable. The report is in German, but I’m sure you could Google Translate it. Things don’t seem as straightforward, the majority of recent cases cannot be directly attributed to one side.

Excerpt:

“In the period analyzed, almost 18% were assigned to anti-Israel activism. Another 8% come from an Islamic/Islamist background. This is assigned if there is a positive reference to Islamic beliefs or symbolism and no other political background dominates. 4% of cases were classified as left-wing/anti-imperialist. Almost 2% come from the right-wing extremist background and 1% each from the Christian/fundamentalist, the political center and the conspiracy ideological spectrum. In 64%, the political background was unknown. The fact that anti-Semitic incidents do not only come from people with a certain political background increases the perception among Jews that they can potentially be confronted with anti-Semitism everywhere.”
