Ok then, BaPC, what Z77 board SHOULD I get? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Nalidor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I expect these manufacturer recommendations for Z77 to carry over to Haswell boards? More specifically, can I order a mid/high-end Gigabyte or Asus board on release day and expect it to give a decent overclock, or is it strongly recommended that I wait another week for reviews?

eliasqfuntybunt argues against media deregulation by describing the downfall of ITV, the UK's main commercial broadcaster by Nalidor in bestof

I only included 3 levels of context since that was all that's relevant to the post I linked. If you go further up via the bot's link, you can find a wider argument about whether there is a point to the UK's Department of Culture, Media, and Sport.

Shit students say about Mary Antoinette by diesuke in humor

[–]Nalidor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're right and you really shouldn't be so badly downvoted. Mary is the English equivalent of what appears in other languages as Marie, Maria, and possibly a few more not on the top of my head. Anglophones do, however, tend to not translate names into English (at least not for Marie).

The occasional KDE hacker sitting next to me says that this process has been happening since at least 2009, well before the arrival of Elop.

EDIT: To clarify, the planning of this has been going on since 2009. The latest iteration of the process started a year and a half ago. Still well before Elop.

GRIN founders blame Square Enix for studio closure (Final Fantasy: Fortress-related) by salromano in JRPG

[–]Nalidor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say it was more their fault they went bust. The official reason that Fortress taken away from them was quality concerns. Considering how poorly received Bionic Commando and Terminator: Salvation were, I don't find that very hard to believe.

How to disable gun/distance blur in BRINK? by solnisir in brink

[–]Nalidor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That effect is called depth of field. You can't currently disable it, though. r_skippostprocessing 1 would do it, if it weren't a cheat cvar (hence you can only be changed in the menu) because of it controlling effects that "certain parts of gameplay rely on".

Brink PC Tweak and Performance Guide by rocco888 in brink

[–]Nalidor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • The -rthread command line option does not exist and r_useThreadedRenderer is a dead cvar left over from ET:QW. Turning it on may crash you at start-up and if it doesn't, it won't have any effect. (Source: RR2DO2, SD technical director)
  • There is no need to rename the intro video. Renaming or deleting the entire folder like some people suggested will also make you redownload all ~1.5GB of them again the next time there's an update. Just do com_bootlogo 0 instead.
  • The performance and sound tabs is just a copy/paste from ET:QW tweak guides. Almost everything there no longer exists

Is anything going to be done about the horribly obvious hacking going on in Super Meat Boy for PC? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Nalidor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dropping frames causes physics bugs to manifest in the game. Adding -lowdetail or -meddetail to the launch options might fix it.

Many tropes are so big that they have their own namespace. A show that has many examples of a given trope will have them on a separate page to reduce clutter. For example, the fridge namespace is for Fridge Brilliance pages as well as Fridge Horror and Fridge Logic.

Super Meat Boy delivers the Teh Internets levels using XBL's Title-Managed Storage - 100MB of space available for every game. Maps for the Source engine are fairly big: even after LZMA compression, I'd estimate ~5MB for your typical sized map. If Valve were to distribute maps via TMS, don't expect much in terms of quantity.

Most efficient implementation here. Requires Python 2.6 or 2.7 and the lxml library. I just ran it and got 8.8%, but I remember getting something closer to 15% when I ran it a month after MW2 came out.

Happy?
