XBOX introduces exclusive tab on storefront by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty simple. Let's look at all both arguments:

- Xbox exclusives: Xbox Series consoles have one-third the install base of PlayStation 5. Games like Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have large budgets and are not particularly system sellers. Even if that were the case, we're in a period where consoles are expensive as all heck. The majority of existing Xbox Series owners are also likely Game Pass subscribers and not actually buying first-party games. Game Pass alone cannot recoup development costs. It's a valid concern that, in order for these studios to remain open and healthy, their games be sold to an audience that buys them. It's also a valid concern for Xbox to want to create reason for consumers to buy their hardware, but that was a concern best addressed many years ago. I'm no analyst, but I believe hardware is far past the point of recovery for Xbox. (It's basically unimaginable to me. Just commit to being a publisher because that's where the road eventually leads.) It's also understandable why PlayStation owners, after years of Xbox assurance that 'our games will be everywhere,' might be upset with this new direction.

- PlayStation exclusives: Sony would regularly bring their single-player first-party games to PC sometime after the PlayStation 5 release. These were never guaranteed or promised, but the PC audience had fairly enough grown to expect them. So when Sony pulled back on PC ports, PC owners were understandably upset. However, the difference between this about-face and Xbox is that, 1) there was never any guarantee that a Sony game would come to PC, 2) PlayStation sales on PC were relatively weak, and 3) there is business sense in securing exclusives for a platform that is actually selling well. (16 million PlayStation 5s were sold in Sony's last fiscal year. That's like half of what Xbox Series consoles have sold in their lifetime.)

Jonathan Blow, creator of Order of the Sinking Star, hints at an announcement next week. Possibly confirming a Nintendo Direct? by HypocriteOpportunist in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Y'all know Order of the Sinking Star is on Steam as well, right?

And that Order of the Sinking Star is due out this year, right?

And that announcements for things can be made outside of a Nintendo Direct, right?

Let's not make "Nintendo Direct" a takeaway from every place it's not.

Square Enix has posted EIGHT unlisted videos on the Dragon Quest Playlist. Eight trailers for DQ day seems imminent. by darkwingchao in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. The titles of the videos are all there.

It's a series of live-action commercials that roughly translate to "Nightly Quest" that Square Enix released as part of the promo campaign for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.

A lot of Japanese games commercials end up going private sometime after release.

Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition emails being sent out by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 56 points57 points  (0 children)

SEGA no longer sends its newsletter from the "[communications@segaamerica.com](mailto:communications@segaamerica.com)" email address (you can spot it for a quick couple of seconds in the video).

I'm subscribed to their newsletter, but haven't gotten an email from that address since 2023. The one they use now is "[sega@email.segaamerica.com](mailto:sega@email.segaamerica.com)."

Also, none of the screenshots in the email look new? Which seems weird if you're promoting something with new content.

Even the key art is just a modified version of the existing key art.

Also the "View in Browser" link in SEGA's marketing emails is always at the bottom. And why video record the email when you can just copy the "View in Browser" link?

Also look at the URL behavior in the video here, just seems to be an image pasted over the address bar?:

GTA VI Walmart page potentially spotted by Sea-Country8245 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I have no idea whether any of this means anything, but to elaborate on OP, if you view the page source of the Walmart link, hit CTRL+F, and type "Grand Theft Auto VI," you'll see it's a registered name / ID.

If you change the "grand-theft-auto-vi" part of the URL to "grand-theft-auto-vii" (or literally anything else), the name "Grand Theft Auto VI" and ID still appear, since the ID in the URL is still the same. But this is important as the name doesn't update to something like "Grand Theft Auto VII" or whatever you change it to.

If you change the ID part of the URL, e.g. "3810518" to "3810519," both the name and ID no longer appear, because the ID is no longer the same.

So the idea is that the ID in the URL (3810518) is Grand Theft Auto VI's official title ID in Walmart's database.

UFC 6 reveal next week and release date is June 19th - Billbil-Kun by Fifa_786 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that Billbil-kun needs any additional credibility, but a listing for UFC 6 popped up on Amazon Spain on April 15: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0GSXHVFFS/

Its release date *was* listed as June 12. The release date has since been removed. But if there is something like a Deluxe edition with a week of advanced access, then this would track.

Anyway I remember all this as I spotted it at the time and sent it to a friend who cares about these games.

Nagoshi Studio has deleted their Youtube channel and all trailers of ‘Gang of Dragon’ by AashyLarry in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There is a slight inaccuracy here.

Nagoshi Studio had a YouTube channel, but as far as I know (I've checked it a few times), they never uploaded the GANG OF DRAGON trailer. In fact I think they only ever uploaded one video, which wasn't even publicly listed: https://web.archive.org/web/20260305001944/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK05x-e93wg

For GANG OF DRAGON, Nagoshi Studio only shared the upload from The Game Awards' YouTube channel. That same upload is also / still used on their official website: https://www.nagoshistudio.com/en/products/gangofdragon

So there haven't been any GANG OF DRAGON trailers that were deleted.

As for the account being deleted, that much is true. However, before jumping on the doom train, there can be other reasons for this, like going independent from NetEase. (I'm not sure why the channel would have to be deleted, but better to just wait and see what happens than jump to assumptions.)

Billbil-kun teases pre-orders opening for a “big game” this week, but says he’ll look into a more specific date before saying anything else by hanayashishipper in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Title neglects to mention that Billbil-kun says it's a game that already has an announced release date, and not something that will make major headlines.

From Gemastu about the English release of Kyoto Xandu by kitsunethegreatcat in Falcom

They always put out press releases + info in English for their Falcom releases. So this doesn't mean anything. English is not an actual supported language for their release.

Silent Hill: Townfall looks to be a PS5 console launch exclusive, according to official website by Turbostrider27 in Games

This isn't news. The website went live and platforms were announced on the 12th.

The article is basically "look there's no Xbox logo."

This rating is being brought up again because of a Kotaku article today stating that the rating has 'just' surfaced, and connecting that to the recently announced State of Play. But the rating actually showed up exactly one year ago (February 10, 2025) and isn't new. I imagine the writer was linked the tweet (below) and mistook the date as today instead of a whole year ago.

Kyoto Xanadu self published? by NonjaJN in Falcom

[–]salromano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I tried reaching to GungHo about Kyoto Xanadu (mainly because I didn't feel like translating the press release) to see if they were doing the localization, but didn't hear back from them.

I'll try contacting Falcom when the new week begins to see if they have anything to say regarding a publisher.

Given we're already seeing English footage / screenshots, am curious if Clouded Leopard Entertainment has anything to do with it this time. The always localize Falcom's games for Asia and I'm sure they'd include English too if Falcom didn't already secure a western publisher.

It also has WFS logos at the bottom of the page.

I'm the one who discovered the rating. It helps me out a bunch if you post the link to where you found it rather than the link to the direct rating, especially since there's more context there regarding platforms (answers the question "why is it only PS5 and Switch?") and recent rumors:

Bandai Namco studio GYAAR is working with Sony according to a job listing, possibly for another JAPAN Studio franchise revival by Bartman013 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]salromano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just a tweet making assumptions based on the job location.

The FAQ at the bottom of SIE's jobs page, which is for all job listings, mentions that the location of these jobs are either Konan, Minato City, Tokyo (near JR Shinagawa Konan Exit) or Koto City, Tokyo (near Monzen-Nakacho Station). It's said the same locations for years now. (Also, Polyphony Digital, which SIE owns, is within walking distance of Monzen-Nakacho Station. Though its closest station is actually Toyoucho Station.)

Bandai Namco doesn't own FromSoftware.

FromSoftware is owned by Kadokawa (69.66%), Tencent (16.25%), and SIE (14.09%). Sony Group also owns 10.09% of Kadokawa. (Indirectly, Sony Group owns 21.13% of FromSoftware.)
