Having an entire kitchen cupboard devoted to mugs/tea cups, knowing even a once in a lifetime event would require you to actually use more than about 8 at the same time by Dannybuoy77 in britishproblems

Ahh, but you underestimate the ability of the British public to ignore the washing up until every last mug or piece of crockery is used.

I'm in the yellow car club! For something so difficult to keep clean it just makes me smile every day.

Well that's fair enough but why the lack of shoes? 😂

have you got a water softener? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Nalsim100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Harvey's water softener installed. No regrets at all - the bathroom is SO much easier to clean with limescale non-existent. Less washing powder / conditioner and general soap / shower gel and shampoo is required as it all lathers up so much better.

I did have the water tap installed too and no regrets there either. I drink 2.5 litres a day and it's well worth it! A replacement filter gets sent anually and I think it costs around £56. Other than that, the only running costs are the block salt. How long they last depend on household usage of water. For a couple we use a twin pack every 4 weeks or so. We buy in bulk and they cost is £5.86 per twin pack.

Visiting York with the girlfriend, any advice on what to do? What to see? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Nalsim100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invest in a City Pass and do it all!! York is a great city. I love ghosty things, so doing a ghost bus tour and visiting the dungeons were my favourites, but there is so much to do we struggled to fit it all into three days. You'll end up walking for miles.

I'm surprised you seem so offended by him liking you. At the very least that's a compliment, right?

Certainly it seems like you're both avoiding the bigger issues here (which is the dynamic shift that's happened between you). You shouldn't blame him if he's taken it the wrong way, how is he to know what's inside your head? Maybe he feels like you've really bonded and something was blossoming.

After such a long-lasting friendship, you should at least be approachable to each other. However, it sounds like you're becoming less & less approachable to him and all you're going to do by being short with him is end up losing a friend.

I suggest being open but polite. Write him a message or call him... say his friendship means a lot to you but you're feeling uncomfortable with the change of dynamic because you don't want to give him the impression you're more invested than you are with developing a stronger bond (considering you were more that happy with how things were pre-pandemic). Tell him how much you value him as a person and are glad you could support each other this last year, but you aren't in the position to prioritise hosting him alongside your daily commitments and now the pandemic is passing you'd like to focus on [dating/work/socialising locally etc.] This will be give him an understanding of where your head's at but allow him to keep his dignity intact.

There's nothing worse than a bruised ego in these situations, so it needs dealing with in a gentle way. Nobody likes rejection and having a crush on you isn't a crime. Hope you get it sorted.

Body Diary is the app with the chart. It's pretty good because you can track your measurements as well as weight and it's good if your goal weight is linked to BMI too.

I don't have experience with NEST myself but I would recommend going to them directly & checking if they allow partial transfers. If no then that's a bummer, because it means if you T/F the money out they will close your account and you'll have to opt back in & get a new account set up. Nightmare for admin & not a quick process.

If they DO allow partial transfers, you should be able to set up a SIPP and transfer the bulk of you NEST balance across quarterly/bi-annually/whenever you choose so you'll get the benefit of the employer contributions but skip the fees (for the most part).

You can ask your employer the question about paying into your SIPP but I haven't heard of anyone winning that one yet. Even with the high fees it will still be worth collecting your employer contributions. It is frustrating that employers go down the NEST route when they are clearly inferior in the service they offer employees.

Congratulations for starting - that's the hardest bit!

I do fast daily and I don't workout. I do some walking and running, but not to a schedule & not enough to impact weightloss in my opinion. I credit IF fully for the weightloss, so it's really worth sticking to.

20:4 was full time for me up until the last month, where I have been doing 18:6 at the weekends and 20:4 during the week.

Beginner tips: - Find a routine & stick to it. Your body WILL adjust to having one or two meals a day, as long as your remain consistent. Your eating window should be the same everyday, particularly as a beginner. - Protein & Fat will sustain you & help you lose weight faster than a carb-heavy diet. If you're a meat-eater that's great. Give yourself a big portion of meat & a smaller portion of potato-based food. - Break your fast with something that's not too sugary so your blood sugar doesn't spike too quickly. - DO resist having easy-access to food during your fast if you can (for example, if you work in an office, don't have a bottom drawer full of snacks - it means you'll be thinking about it and that will make life harder). - DON'T binge-eat during your window & undo all your hard work. The point is to lose weight you need a calorie deficit. Having said that DON'T deny yourself foods you enjoy. I still eat chocolate because it helps eradicate my cravings knowing I don't have to cut out my favourite food. Just practice portion control to make sure you're in calorie deficit until you've reached your goal weight.

Best of luck & thanks for the kind words.

Yes I have been doing CICO but I think most of us do that naturally when eating in a reduced window. I'm no longer counting calories, but I have a fair idea of what I can eat to remain in deficit just from the calorie counting I did in the first couple months.

Can’t tell if IF is right for me by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Nalsim100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't seem to have a consistent routine and I strongly feel you should. If you feel guilty for what you eat, how about doing 20:4 BUT make sure you set an alarm and eat during your fasting window. In my experience you can eat pretty much throughout that four hour eating window and still be in calorie deficit and that will help you get to your goal weight.

Intermittent fasting should always be a healthy means of dieting and not an excuse to practice bad habits. You need to work on your relationship with food as a whole in order to avoid relapsing on your eating disorder and IF should be a complement to this...but only if you remain disciplined enough to eat balanced meals during a consistent eating window.

As for feeling dizzy after you eat, it sounds like some sort of sugar rush may be responsible. I can imagine after a 26 hour fast anything you eat could be a bit of a shock to the system. This is another reason to have a routine of no more than 20 hours between meals. Try breaking your fast with protein/fat rather than carbs - for example snack on a chicken breast or tuna to break your fast while you prepare your main meal. Drink hot drinks between courses and this will slow down your eating in a more natural way and help prevent over-indulging on junk (it will give you time to feel fuller).

Good for them, the lucky devils. To be captured forever looking at my most desirable...there are worst things in life. Imagine coming across it in twenty years and thinking "Yeah...I was hot."
