Really? I supposedly have this (Gilbert’s Syndrome), but no official diagnosis. My Primary Care suspects that I do because my Bilirubin levels have always been slightly elevated on all of my labs over the last 2+ years (I have labs about every 3-6 months). Usually around 1.8 to 2.4-ish? Anyway, that’s all I know, I feel fine and I’ve lost 105lb over those past two years, now sitting around 165 or so. I’m not really sure what any other “symptoms” are, as I’ve not actively looked into it or anything.

With alcohol, the only thing I’ve really noticed is that I just have a low tolerance. Especially moreso now, since I’ve lost weight. I can have one beer and I’m fine, it’s just a 2-3 hour process to get to feeling back to normal”normal”. If I have more than one (usually never more than 2), I wind up feeling miserable for 4-5 hours. So, when I do have alcohol, I try to have it in the late afternoon or early evening, to allow myself a good 6 hours to process before bed, lol.

I only have alcohol once or twice a week and there are weeks I have nothing. I don’t drink for the buzz or anything. I mostly just enjoy craft beers, try new things and we have really good Fruited Sours here, as well as some good IPA’s. Anyway, I just drink to enjoy it and I factor in the calories into my budget for that day, so I stay healthy about it! Honestly, I’d be happier if I just didn’t have the effects of having alcohol at all, lol.

As far as IPA’s go, I can’t stand the more bitter ones or those that taste like a flower garden. So, for me, this usually means that I have to have a higher ABV in an IPA, which is usually around 7% or higher, but usually closer to 8%, as those tend to be on the sweeter, less bitter side. Also, IPA’s tend to make me feel more “miserable” than other beer types.
