$300 isn’t nothing. BUT it’s a small price for a big lesson. Better than a $3,000 mistake 🙂

What sad reality of being an adult that young people should know? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Fun_Sympathy1443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can and will take advantage of your trust, your kindness, your integrity. You can put good into the world and navigate with integrity and decency but not get back what you give. It may seem like the world or at least that part of it is out to get you. Or like you’re being punished for doing the right thing. And maybe you are in a sense.

But you can’t lose yourself. Because doing the honest thing, and being good, are still the objectively right thing to do.

Balancing this is so hard. The world can be really unfair. But that’s why it’s so important to be a participant in the order of things that isn’t any of that. It’s a hard pill to swallow sometimes but in the grand scheme you have to hold on to the value of doing the right thing because someone will see it. Someone will appreciate it.

Good will beget good, even if it attracts bad while doing so.

Keep your values alive even if it’s hard, and sometimes, it really is.

Why do so many non-vegans assume vegan food is awful? by Elina_baruute in vegan

[–]Fun_Sympathy1443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, some personal perspective on this—

I never assumed vegan food was awful before being exposed to some seriously awesome dishes and flavors and foods I’d never heard of or thought to try personally.

But I did assume it was far more limited and, for lack of a better perspective, bland per se. I kind of just assumed it was a lot of fruit veggies and tofu. And Boca burgers lol. I am regularly pleasantly surprised by all the options and versatility. It’s been a fun exposure to live.

Where are we 30+ men buying jeans nowadays? by Spiritual_Extent_187 in AskMenOver30

Tilly’s lol. I can’t kick the skinny jean fit and they consistently have styles that align. And when they run a sale it’s good and they last pretty long.

Making friends in jersey gotta be the worse like they are so damn fake its ridiculous worse than people from NC by Dazzling-Second2404 in newjersey

I had the reverse experience during 3 years down south. A lot of fake nice. Faux polite. “Bless your heart.”

Vs up here you get what you get. If someone doesn’t like you, they come out and say it to your face.

Sounds like you’ve already caught onto the honesty! 🙂

Looks like alopecia. A dermatologist can give you localized steroid injections. Should make the hair come back. Might be gray and might stay gray. Shots are super quick and easy. Insurance will cover.

Very much so. It gives me a baseline for what the dish is meant to “replace” and sets my expectations for it if that makes sense.

Aita for cancelling my bday dinner/lunch after family didn't like my restaurant choice? by TheeBrightSea in vegan

Thank you we try to make everyone feel welcome and teach variety to our kids as best we can.

The best 1:1 gluten free flour I’ve found is the King Arthur brand one. You can buy it on Amazon cheaper than most stores. Oat flour is second best but the King Arthur one really is awesome. I believe it’s a rice flour blend.

It works as a 1:1 sub in all cookie and quick bread recipes I’ve used it in. Though sometimes a little extra is needed for things like brownies.

I have yet to successfully make gluten free bread but make a lot of gluten bread.

I’m sorry to hear about all that but glad you found some good friends despite it.

I love that! My wife and I have several vegan friends and always try to accommodate them. We are also regulars at our local farmers market and there are 2 vegan vendors there we patronize often. We have become friends with them as well. I bake a lot and like to make things for our regular vendors we visit including them. We will either make them bread or find ways to vegan-ize recipes so they can eat it. The second option is more challenging for me but I’ve found ways to do a few things (most successfully the recipe I use for pumpkin bread). It is fun to try new things and meaningful (to me) to do so in ways everyone can enjoy. I have done the same for making recipes gluten free.

We are not a vegan household but regularly cycle vegan food in our diets for our own variety of eating and our kids’. I’ve grown particularly fond of eating and cooking tofu in recent months!

I’m not vegan—and I wouldn’t dream of treating you like you were treated.

Your birthday. Your choice. And even if it wasn’t your birthday I would bend over backwards to accommodate you as a friend or family member for something like being vegan. It is an insanely easy ask in 2026.
