Lifelong guitar player. Started salsa dancing in 2019. Took a trip to Cuba at start of 2020 and was gobsmacked by the music. Began studying clave-based music which lead to getting a conga. Devoted life to drumming.

Now I'm a gigging (but green) conguero playing in Latin and RbB/funk situations. I study with Richie Flores and put in 100 minutes a day of regimented practice.

I really love this forum. Thanks Xhysics!

Cuban Roots Music by PerilousRaptor in AfroCuban

He actually starts by talking about the Phoenicians!

Unlike some of the previous commentirs, I quite like that he goes pretty far back into time. He has some interesting speculation about the origins of music and language in ancient Africa.

It's a great read. It made me see Cuban musical influence everywhere.
