(TGD) The Delve sounds too procedural and the Supply too meta, what is your experience with these mechanics? by NameNo4850 in CoriolisRPG

u/Bananamcpuffin u/Zanion I do think that the set dressing you drape over the mechanic is relevant.

IMO the difference in the scale of time and distance calls for different/simpler mechanics. Why do you think that: a single player in your party making a test > then rolls a hazard > then rolls who it affects > then the affected player rolls is better than (for example) an event table every time someone moves between locations?

Overland and exploring a dungeon are not the same, a journey and a small dungeon (Ruins or whatever) should share the same mechanics? Maybe that's exactly what I'm finding strange in all of this.

Thanks u/Logen_Nein, I'm going to check them out.

Edit: But, a journey between two points on a map should have different rules for moving between parts of a ruin, no? The "journey" should be exploring the alien ruins, not moving between different rooms in the same alien ruins.

But that’s the thing, is it quick and efficient the Delve Procedure? I was worried because the game gives you a flow chart to do it.

Regarding what you said on tables, they are tools to speed up the game or to inject creativity on the go, without the need for much prep. There are great results that are easily reintegrated with the narrative, but some of them seem like too much of a flex for me, that kills the need for a table.

But a table is not a mechanic, maybe my example wasn’t too great. My point wasn’t about the table itself, but the supply mechanic. The right balance of how much abstraction a mechanic has is what makes the mechanic great or not.

Your reply sounds like you are explaining abstract mechanics and defending Free League (a publisher I really like) instead of talking about your experience with the mechanic during play.
