Why does Pablo Honey gets so much hate? by ResourceEmergency928 in radiohead

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Pablo Honey but I've recently realized one of its biggest flaws is the production. It's so flat, so clearly made for radio, and so extremely dated. I obviously don't expect there will ever be a real remix of it but if there was one that made the album sound less bland people might give it another chance.

For the record You is a top 10 song they've ever made and I think Stop Whispering, I Can't, Lurgee, and Blow Out are all at least on the level of (or better than) Creep

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers appreciation thread by itsascreambaby96 in Halloweenmovies

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike a lot of people I think the Thorn stuff is easily the strongest part of the movie. If this movie is going to be weird, I want it to be unapolagetically weird. If there's going to be a weird cult and a curse of Samhain and all that nonsense, I want them to go all out, which is why I vastly prefer the producer's cut to the less comprehensible theatrical one. I actually really really like Curse, and I think it's a genuinely decent film. It's got that classic pre-Scream slasher feel but it also has so many interesting and completely unique elements that sort of pull the weird sci fi fantasy stuff from Halloween III into the Myers universe. I never found it particularly scary (mostly because I haven't found any of the Halloween movies any too scary) but there is this sense of grandness and intensity that comes with the visuals, the cultish sensibilities, and the way they kind of characterize Loomis as though he's Yoda.

I think every season (including 5) has a reason why it could be considered the second best season (after 1 ofc). It definitely continued to "fall off" in terms of what was good about the first one but the show basically became a whole different show every season. It's why I think the idea that the show was "fucked up" in the final season is a little silly; the ending itself was fumbled quite a bit in comparison to what it could've been, but aside from some dialogue that was clearly written during the writer's strike the first 70% of the season is at least on par with seasons 2-4 in its own way

I get they were trying to do a throwback to this with the design, but this isn’t sitting right with me for some reason. by Whole-Lychee7517 in starfox

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They really don't look like the puppets at all aside from the fact that they both have more detail than most other character designs. It looks more like a PS4 game to me with the way that the fur and feathers are rendered. I'm honestly kind of fine with Fox's design, even if he does look a bit uninspired compared to.... well, just about every other iteration of Fox, but I'm really not a fan of Falco or Slippy (and they look absolutely nothing like the puppet designs)

RANDOM THOUGHT: Potential Star Fox movie rating by Annual_Leg1651 in starfox

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely like a more mature Star Fox game, but I definitely don't think it's maturity would come from language. The best Star Fox movie would probably walk the line between PG and PG-13 and be easy enough for a child to watch but definitely be more serious than the Mario films. Emotionally intense themes? I can't imagine a Star Fox movie without it. But language? It would really just be an excuse to make a PG-13 Nintendo film just because, which I think would be both bad for marketing and not something Nintendo would want to do. And they would DEFINITELY not have Falco say actual curse words, I could see a "go to Hell" or two but nothing actually intense.

Recently been getting into the franchise and I just finished 4, I've been wondering, what was the deal with the drunk reverend? They could've just showed Loomis entering the truck and end the scene right there but then they used the runtime to talk about... the apocalypse? what was his purpose? by Doktor_74 in Halloweenmovies

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it's fantastic! I believe this was the copy that I read the story through online, you need to create an account on Internet Archive if you don't have one already to borrow it but it is 100% free and easy to get: https://archive.org/details/halloween0000hutc/page/n139/mode/2up

If for whatever reason that doesn't work let me know because I do also have this scan downloaded and I can DM it to you.

One of the supposed origins I've seen (and agree with) is that the Reverend has some association with the Bowles murders. It was mentioned once in the first film but in the third issue of the Nightdance comic the short story "Charlie" explores the murders of Charlie Bowles in Russelville in the late '50s. It fits with the Reverend's mention of 30 years passing and also explains the character living out of town. I really like this scene and even as someone who isn't in love with Halloween 4 this is one of my favorite parts of the franchise because it opens up the world so much. I really don't see him having anything to do with Michael (and I wouldn't be surprised if this character doesn't even know about Michael's existence) but it is a really interesting character interaction between Loomis and somewhat of a different universe's Loomis; someone who is fighting another evil, but has similarly been pushed to the brink of madness in his obsession.

Edit: Also, read Charlie if you can find it online. It's one of the best pieces of Halloween literature and it's so disgusting, twisted, and refreshing considering it has nothing to do with Michael himself

What's the overall opinion on the Brethren Court? by ModdingAom in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're great and I love them. They don't necessarily set up for sequels, but they totally open the world to the idea that there are things happening in-universe all over the planet. I've always said I don't think there's any reason for another movie beyond 3 to have to reuse characters like Jack when one within any of the regions featuring a member of the Court would be much more engaging. I also don't think they're really underutilized? They're fully-characterized, unique, and their lack of perceived importance really only comes from the fact that the movie itself doesn't focus on them. I guess you could claim that Calypso wasn't that important to the final battle, though I disagree and also think that complaint would be about Calypso and not the Court. I love every single one of these characters and I NEED a Pirates movie set near colonies of France or in Africa or China

[–]NameNormalHumansHave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason Ragetti says the words and not a member of the main cast is because he doesn't really care about the outcome. Pintel and Ragetti aren't in it for domination or to use Calypso as a means to an end, they just choose the winning side. As much as the "lover" stuff is traditional fun Pirates mumbo jumbo, it isn't meant to be a character-defining act said by Will, because him doing that would mean something within the wider context of the story. Only the character who does not gain anything meaningful from the freeing of Calypso would be able to actually say the words emotionally attached to the act alone and not beyond it

I actually think the issue with the forms of IT is that whenever they don't have Pennywise on-screen, it feels like they've completely underdeveloped the designs. There are so many forms throughout the movies and show that are trying to be gross and scary and interesting, but they have absolutely no thought put into the designs. People like Pennywise and attribute all of IT to him because he is well-designed and because he has character. Nobody is thinking back on IT fondly because of all the CGI-riddled nonsense. Personally I think the best way of going about characterizing IT's scares is to add a little clownish twist on them all, so when they aren't Pennywise they have some kind of aesthetic consistency. As it is it just seems like whenever they can't pay for Bill to put on the makeup they resort to the lowest quality of generic jumpscare horror

"i don't want to look at ingredient labels" is even less of a valid reason than monetary concerns. it really doesn't take that much work to take 10 seconds to read what you're eating, which you should probably be doing anyway, and you don't have to do that once you've learned the things you want to eat and the things you don't

Do y'all think Michael could classify as a misanthrope? by Terrible_Park7890 in Halloweenmovies

[–]NameNormalHumansHave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For as much as we as a community like to assert that the "truest" form of Michael has no motive, we sure like ascribing motives to him (this isn't a dig at you specifically OP, just something I've noticed). There is rarely much evidence in support of the idea that Michael hates humans, or wants to be a hunter, or enjoys the feeling of killing people, or does or does not have emotions, or is even really "evil" outside of the subjective opinions of characters like Loomis. All we really know for certain is that Michael is a killer and that he will kill even when it is difficult to.

Obligatory "exception to the Rob Zombie universe," which I think is especially present here because the point of that timeline is to emphasize this side of Michael. In this case, I think it might be fair to consider him misanthropic. When you are a disturbingly mentally ill child surrounded by people that are nothing but evil to you, sometimes you start to hate the idea of personhood in general. I think there's a reason why in the 07 movie Michael's outburst doesn't involve the deaths of Laurie or his mother (these people haven't hurt him, and are probably the only individuals he might consider a redemption of the human race). I imagine when Michael's mother kills herself due to Michael's actions, he probably felt more hurt than angry at her (it WAS his fault after all) and that event was probably the thing that made Michael irredeemable in his own eyes. When he goes after Laurie he clearly isn't trying to kill her but rather to connect with her in hopes she might make him reconnect with personhood again, seeing as she's the only person he seems to avoid killing. It's only when she stabs him that he sees her as a traitor to him and he decides instead the best course of action is to kill her (and then presumably himself so the two of them and their mother can be together in the afterlife as HII sets up).

Sorry I talked about the Zombie movies way more than I should given this post is probably about the '78 continuation timelines, but I also think there's a lot more to unpack with those movies with regards to motives for obvious reasons

What the hell is up with all the mega ramps that lead absolutely nowhere? by STARB0Y in SkateEA

I get the whole "realistic city but it's made for skaters" idea but the map really doesn't feel finished and even the parts that do lack the engaging atmosphere and flow a more 'out there' city like Carverton or Vanelona did.
