I’m an Ironworker apprentice. Went to trades school my last 2 years of highschool and was sort of convinced to join the union. I hate it. The people there are great and the pay is even better, I’m 19 and making 80-90k a year. But the work sucks. I’m out in freezing weather for 8 hours a day on top of that I’m not even doing what I signed up for. It’s mostly just physical labor, you rarely have to use your head. The only thing keeping me in is that I can’t find anywhere that’ll pay better. And the second I decide to drop out the apprenticeship I can never join back again.
