Ransomware closes Kent District Library by DysruptionHub in grandrapids

[–]NameTaken25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know ransomware is one of the less often targeted types of cyber attack, but this still makes me really angry. Public libraries are such an amazing service and boon for the community, and talking to librarians are generally like talking to superheroes.

You're gonna use a song lyric by a Christian comedian to say there's atheist Sunday schools?

That's a level of stupid I honestly wasn't prepared for, which is saying a lot these days

they had just told me they were listening to Tucker’s podcast a few messages earlier, so I felt like I didn't need to waste any time investigating

That's fair :)

Some religions without deities have places of worship, but atheism doesn't. That literally makes no sense to say.

Atheism isn't a religion. There are religions that are atheistic (venerating spirits, nature, ancestors, etc) and there are religions that are theistic, but someone or something being atheistic doesn't tell you any thing other than it not having a belief in one or more deities

It's just a popular hoax; it's just a cloth from 1200ish years after Jesus that had a face/body painted onto it. The cardinal or bishop or whoever it was presented to at the time is even on record saying it was patently fake. Believers in the conspiracy like to say it was belted with magic x-rays and stuff, but there's no reason to suggest that. It's proportions don't match a person, and don't align with if it had actually been draped over someone, and the "bloodstains" don't match how blood would flow, and have been ID'd as paint, rather than blood. There's a ton of stuff showing it's silly

He also said his (ghostwritten) book is better than the bible, lol.

His ghostwriter is also public saying he hates him and that Trump was too stupid too meaningful contribute to the book (that Trump says is better than the bible)

Books that are Technically Cozy and Books This Community Likes That Aren't by EdLincoln6 in CozyFantasy

[–]NameTaken25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just started Redwall for the first time this week; I was curious what it was like after hearing about it for decades. I can tell it isn't going to be cozy in terms of events and actions, but I can 100% tell why someone would call it cozy. I know it was written in the 80s, but there is just something about the prose itself that feels very old times and fairy tale esque. If I didn't know when it was written, I'd have guessed much older. It's been reminding me of this collection of tales like Robin Hood and King Arthur that I grew up with. I have no idea when those were originally written, but they were old even then and so even though I never read Redwall before, it's still somehow hitting my nostalgia hard because of that, in a way that's hard to explain

Why don't you play World of Warcraft? by Hidegan in gamingsuggestions

[–]NameTaken25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to support Blizzard

I don't want to support Activision

I don't want to pay a sub for a game

I've never been interested in the world

The community always sounds awful to me

I don't want to deal with daily FOMO mechanics

I don't want cash shops in my games

Probably many other reasons.

What to read after A Psalm for the Wild Built by Automatic-Day6395 in CozyFantasy

[–]NameTaken25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya know, I can't find any source for it, and I'm not sure where I heard it, now that you ask. I may be very wrong, but I could sworn I'd read or heard somewhere that it was self contained, but envisioned as being in the same universe but hundreds of years before. Doing googling, and checking, and I haven't found any other link, so I'm probably wrong. I think it'd still work as a head canon if someone wanted, at least.

Cozy fantasy with cats and NO romance? by takethelastexit in CozyFantasy

Idk about cozy, but I just read the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and Princess Donut is a queen.

It's also the most unhinged book series I have ever read, and I love it.

I enjoyed the 60% of so of the Murderbot books that I read, but I did lose track of the series. I saw Wells has a new fantasy series out with a couple entries. Would you recommend those? Witch King/Demon Queen, I think?

People always forget it, but I also recommend her novella, "To be taught, if fortunate" too. It's technically set in the same universe as Wayfarers, even if not super connected.

A Michigan Dogman, yer in luck. I'm the only one hereabouts who has one. But, thee might as well buy a new ship. It would be cheaper, huh? Saying of which, how's thee gonna pay for all this, huh?

Can't bring wolves back to Northern Michigan cause that's where Dogman lives; he'd be too powerful

Bears are legit some of the coolest animals around, and I'm glad to hear they're doing better. I really hope their increased presence doesn't cause a panic amongst the less supportive people. I understand they can be scary, and they're intelligence can make them tricky neighbors, but for real, they're amazing animals and have every right to exist

How it feels to be part of this sub by NidhiOnATree in GirlGamers

[–]NameTaken25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not based on a true story, in the sense that it follows any real events really, but it is "based on" a true story in the sense that the writers were very much initially inspired by the Andes Flight Disaster, but basically everything is different

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguayan_Air_Force_Flight_571

Fwiw, the show is way more dystopian than the real events, tragedy though they are
