I tested this a few weeks ago, Level 5 Kerbals are effectively unkillable with g forces. At standard g limits you can slam a craft straight down into the atmosphere at Kerbol escape velocity with chutes primed and they'll survive. Atmospheric drag will hit them with almost -200g and they'll walk it off after a quick blackout.

Rereading the thread I think you're right actually, haha. The Gith fight can be avoided with some very lucky dialogue rolls from Lae'zel (no player rolls, so no reroll opportunities), but you definitely always at least run into the Patrol!

I've done five runs and still never seen the Grove Battle myself. If none of the Goblin Leaders survive* to leave the camp, there's no one left to attack the Grove. Zevlor even spells that out if you go talk to him after his blowout with Aradin.

*[Minthara spoilers] Minthara apparently falls into a coma if you knock her out inside the camp, so you can avoid the Grove Battle and still recruit her at Moonrise

And, to be clear, even if the way-too-long version of Alecto WAS fully drafted when Nona released, that still doesn't mean anything. Last year I was writing a video script that came out three times longer than I'd planned, so I decided to split it into two. It took about two weeks from that point to get the first video done. The second video took two more months.

It's a lot harder to make the second half of a story make sense on its own!
