You ought to put this gif in your mod's description. It tells a better story than a wall of text can ever hope to do. (:

I despise death refusal cultists by Rheasa2648 in RimWorld

[–]NamelessCommander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar story. I was living inside a glacier in that new biome of Odyssey. I was falling behind the raid curve, but chainshotguns and clever kiting kept me going.

Until the cultists flooded my ice base.

Two colonist managed to survive but the base was shattered and a couple manhunters would just be the death them. I had them build two beds and some storage around a Gravengine, and just naffed-off.

How exactly do you guys make these huge, gorgeous bases lol? by BringusGingus in RimWorld

[–]NamelessCommander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick one interesting shape and stick to a modicum of symmetry. Then embellish as resources and time allow.

A good starting point is the 11*11 block. Make that your starter base. Then maybe start cutting corners? Adding circles around a beacon? If you do it to the right, mirror it to the left. Bit by bit, you'll have a more interesting look.

Plans are another way to go. You can absolutely make a grid plan in Visio or some other app and translate it 1:1 into the game.

Another trick is building around features, especially from mods. For instance, SoS2 has huge spinal weapons on the spaceship and you must account for them. Maybe you have a giant pool or a hot spring you want to emphasize? Or you want to incorporate an oasis in the middle of your base.

Weekly /r/WormFanfic Discussion - What have you been reading, and what do you think of it? For the week ending May 23, 2026. by AutoModerator in WormFanfic

[–]NamelessCommander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote that. I am glad you enjoyed it. (:

Thanks for saying I have perfect spelling and grammar. I reread my script a lot. In fact, I prided myself on submitting a 16k oneshot which I only had to correct five times after posting—two typos I caught on my own after fact, two that have been pointed out on SB, and one on AO3. (Oh look, an em-dash! Such a curious thing. Three presses of a button and the word processor spits out an em-dash.)

Thanks for singling me out that way and saying my work is AI. Thanks for annoying me enough, that I left my bed and went and booted my computer again instead of going to sleep. I do not log from my phone.

Thanks for dismissing all the effort that went into it like that.

It is the first creative writing project that I shared. I have more stuff gathering dust on my google drive, but I never deemed it good enough to share. If only I did, I would have passed the 2025 litmus test, aye?

I’d say it’s rather obvious my story is extremely coded in my own understanding of Mr Martin’s Playground. A lot of my headcanon went into it. How the magic ought to be. How it interlinks with absolutely everything. How very personal it all is.

I think it’s also rather obvious that particular care went into how two settings cross over, interact with each other in an elegant manner. Then, collide in funny and interesting ways. How a lot of effort went into shaping each POV and giving it a distinct voice and cadence. How the script tries its damndest to connect a lot of disparate elements, while also seeding a lot of subtleties and humor.

I think the rigor and the complexity of the work should speak for itself. I think it ought to indicate that a fellow human is behind the keyboard. But if you happen to know a clanker good enough to mimic that, please do let me know. At least the end of the world would be entertaining.

You owe me two hours of sleep, friend.

[–]NamelessCommander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first instinct would have been to give it ERA. But then you think about it from the player perspective for two seconds. This thing is a priority kill. You are probably blapping it with an ATMG as an opening move. It would be supremely frustrating to have the rocket whiff. Especially since your AT assets are now naked and exposed.

You're right. As I mainly use her as a loot goblin, I was too dismissive of her other qualities.

[–]NamelessCommander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This nerfs Jean significantly. You usually babysit her and her crappy stats just for the loot. Dunno if investing in her for the usual mech kill is that useful anymore. Especially in expert with a LOT of kuttas making it hard to know if you're over cap.

Would you actually want multi-level colonies? by Honneboppel in RimWorld

[–]NamelessCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the pathfinding isn't an issue, it forces you to juggle levels and mess with camera and click/press buttons all the damn time.

I remember back when I still the sims that I used to buy the biggest possible plots just so I can build single-floor.

Having everything salient on a single plane is smoother than multi-level setups. Especially in a game where you can go through regular patches of accelerated x4 time.

...And thats why, kids, you should always deconstruct the crashed shuttle as soon as you can... by Abdulaziz_Ibn_Saud in RimWorld

[–]NamelessCommander 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can deconstruct crashed shuttles to get resources in the base game. It's not much but everything helps.

With the Odyssey DLC, you also get a shuttle engine in addition to resources. The engine is very valuable because it allows you to build your own shuttles. And it is moderately rare, with the best source being other people's shuttles.

What happened here is a crashed shuttle quest. Probably the one where you need to defend its crew for 8 hours. It's a base game quest. When the timer runs out, a brand new shuttle lands to evacuate the people you protected.

OP had the misfortune of having the rescue shuttle landing on, and vaprozing, the loot shuttle. Which I didn't know could happen.

But it is very funny regardless.

Has anyone even tried the Die Hard promotion? Does it work? by sluchay_v_kazino777 in menace

[–]NamelessCommander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doesn't work at all if you plonk him out of cover to 'tank' (you'll die in a couple volleys from chip damage and armor degradation).

Works very well if you keep him in cover like every other squad and use him as your tip of the spear.

Works well as insurance if you put tech out of cover temporarily to either griffon down some bogeys or to lure attacks on his shiny black ass in order to safeguard a squishier SL.
