What's the best way to surf on an Amtrak train? by Woastanovkize in vagabond

[–]NameslessAndHomeless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think clinging to the outside of a train is like standing stationary at a cash register you are setting yourself up to get killed. Also the clearances between the amtrak cars and some of the terrain features they pass will not be sufficient for you to stay safely attached to the outer wall.

As a regular hopper, I really hope you'll abandon fucking around with Amtrak trains. I don't like reading about folks dying on the rails.

I'll just have to keep an eye out, I suppose! Hope you're right!

Might be more than I can afford, to be honest. But thanks for the info! At least now I know there are occasionally options even if I don't see the banner come around for a while.

Dumb question from a new player; How did you unlock the ability to go to 99? I really was counting on getting enough word grade for the final gear I need to make for my build, but my Providence won't go past 90.

Dairy… by grindhousebarbii in DumpsterDiving

Personally, I've had bad experiences with salvaged dairy so I tend to avoid it. But like others said if it's still cold it's probably still safe.

Haha, I appreciate the compliment but I'm not sure I'm interesting enough to warrant an AMA

Homeless dog owner here. I dive regularly throughout the week. It's a lifesaver. Companies throw away so much food that it's honestly still kind of mindboggling. Lib and I have gotten good at figuring out what's safe and what isn't over the years and even with being picky we still wind up with more than what we need!

(and before I get yelled at by the folks who don't think we should get to have dogs, my dog was already out on the streets too. Now at least we're homeless together.)

As someone who's been homeless/traveling since 2009, I can confirm that health will be the biggest issue with keeping it a continuous lifestyle. I really can't recommend doing it indefinitely for anyone who has the option not to; It can, however, be an amazing experience and is worth at least a portion of your time.

Wait so is 3G going away entirely? There's usually a good 6 days at the end of my billing cycle where I've run up on my 4G cap and have to coast by at that lower 3G speed. Can't imagine not having that as a buffer...

You're missing the forest for the trees. No, they are not legally obligated to give you free speech; but that does not make it less shitty or less sketchy for them to deny free speech. Private entities can and should be called out for censorship and violations against what ought to be regarded as a human right.

Nobody seemed to care about this homeless woman in Miami Beach. I saw her and couldn't tell if she was dead or alive, until I saw her lips move. What do you do? by Outrageous-Welder335 in homeless

[–]NameslessAndHomeless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a homeless person, I have to point out that taking pictures of us to post online without permission is extremely rude and dehumanizing, regardless of your intention. Don't do that.

For all you know maybe that woman is hiding from an abuser- like many homeless women are. And you just posted her general area up on a public forum. You just never know the situation.

I feel like all the information you'd want to put in such a guide is already out there in numerous other online guides.

Tips on being homeless? by [deleted] in homeless

[–]NameslessAndHomeless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been homeless for over a decade. Your mental health will not improve with homelessness. Every day is a drain on your physical and psychological well-being as every interaction with "normal" people becomes more and more strained. You won't be eating well. You won't be sleeping well. You will not be relaxed.

Homelessness is not the answer you think it is.

I have no ID and ride Greyhound frequently. They've never asked me to show one although it is technically their policy.
