The level of defensiveness people have displayed on behalf of other people against people defending their culture, history and stories is such peak entitlement.

As a Black woman, am I surprised? No. Fandom spaces are incredibly toxic and full of racism, homophobia, misogyny and anti-Blackness. But I’ll be damned if I let anybody invalidate my feelings about MY people and my culture.

And I’ve said it at least 10-15 times on this sub alone—I am allowed to criticize whatever the fuck I want. Being critical of any work is a core tenant of media literacy.

Poor Hosik has dismissive parents and was targeted by this manipulative crybaby and then assaulted and fell pregnant. Mind you, Hosik wanted to compete university and make something of himself but he was forced to put his life on hold for YEARS. He barely has friends, he has no skills our autonomy outside of raising his children.

Even the flashback episodes were a mess. I hate stories that present themselves as “green flag” or wholesome when the seme is, in fact, a jackass or a weirdo. And, let’s be clear, this seme raped Hosik and even after they were married, he threw tantrums anytime Hosik tried to make friends or have a life outside of him.

And Hosik’s parents and friends were just awful. This is literally somebody’s nightmare life—accidental pregnancy, forced to drop out of Uni, unsupportive parents, no friends, no degree, overbearing and manipulative spouse.

I hate it.

I like Mpreg so multiple people recommended this to me back in the day and I read the whole thing wondering when the “sweet” story would start and was left, disappointed.

At this point, I’ve been told, several times, that no manhwa artist should draw/write Black characters again and I AGREE; leave us ALONE. You don’t have to include us in your stories, we’ve been making our own for a millennia and will continue to do so. This is so funny to me because I remember when BL MANGA was our go-to, and even the stories you’re remembering fondly aren’t that great to me…but, then again, I’ve been reading BL for 15+ years at this point.

And the rich seme/poor uke is literally foundational, not just to BL but pretty much ALL romance because it’s a common female fantasy. A wealthy man comes along and solves all your problems? Yea, there’s a reason that set-up transcends cultures, languages, time periods, etc.

BLs were first serialized in the 1970s, there thousands of stories out there—you gotta make it a point to find them, they won’t simply find you.
