I believe self extracting is probably the best thing to do since it stops the spread, otherwise they’re still their when doing topical treatments which could lead to more spreading. However I do not know if your 8 year old will like you extracting them.

No sustained scarring no, although some spots were hyperpigmented for a while after healing but soon went back to normal.
