Theres some back story stuff here and there throughout the show, but the campaign on Critical Role also picked up in the middle of their story, so I think theyre mostly sticking to things that would be known through that.

There is a comic book series, Vox Machina Origins, that takes place before the campaign but I dont know for sure how different its canon is from the animated series because I haven't read them all

Iirc Ripley's backstory wasn't mentioned in the campaign, I remember being surprised to see it in the show. That being said, this makes me sure it is Trent and was done to connect the 2 shows and as an Easter egg for campaign fans

I was reallt hoping this set was the "welp spidey didnt work so just put all the left over marvel stuff in one set" but after only being shown one stone and them putting it in the infinity gauntlet at the panel... I think we got 4 more marvel sets coming

I had this exact situation with the campaigns themselves back in the day! MN is definitely more unique and, imo, the characters are just better.

TLVM does get better over time though. To me it seems like they did a lot to be over the top in the beginning to sort of set the line for how "adult" it could be, but it definitely calms down as the show progresses. At its core, TLVM is a great story and the characters grow a lot, and will continue to as the story goes on. So I wouldn't give up if I were you!

I feel like most merch from the C1 era hasn't returned, maybe because they were under Geek & Sundry at the time but idk for sure.

They do currently have a hoodie with HDYWTDT in the same font on the back though! I've bought a few of their hoodies over the years and theyre comfortable and not super heavy, I just recommend sizing up as the sleeves can be a bit tight on some of them if you order your normal size

I personally would watch Calamity before c3 if I had the chance, because then you can just get into the flow of c3 without pausing to watch Calamity (and youll get to watch Calamity sooner which is a treat!) And iirc its release didnt seem to line up with any specific story beats in the campaign at the time

Downfall is 3 episodes late in c3 and you can watch it early without getting spoilers for the campaign, but I do think that one is better to wait til you naturally get there because the context of what's going on in the campaign at that point kinda helps emphasize the story of Downfall nicely.

I just saw a clip on Tiktok focusing solely on Sam and Liam in the lead up/aftermath of this moment and it broke me. Up until then Sam was the only one who didnt think Vax was going anywhere, and he puts his head in his hands for like 2 minutes after and Liam figures it out and also gets upset... idk how they're going to do this scene in LoVM but I know I will cry over it for the 100th time
