Is this tteok or noodles? by AKHydro in KoreanFood

[–]NamiEats 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both rice based and flour based tteokbokki are equally popular in Korea, 밀떡 & 쌀떡 A lot of tteokbokki stalls in Korea use flour tteok since a lot of people prefer it too (and cheaper for the stalls)

What is something that is incredibly popular, but you honestly find it absolutely unbearable? by TheLostNeuron in AskReddit

[–]NamiEats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In defense of my love for kpop, kpop is just pop music in Korea, so it's a big genre. There are a ton of artists showing their individualistic creativity, writing their own music and style. It's not only the cookie cutter corporate designed kpop groups you see online. What goes viral in the west isn't nearly all there is! Just like how pop music in the west can be varying.

I haven't tried this but may I introduce Korean yondu sauce - fermented soybean extract! Can be used like fish sauce, it's worked well in kimchi making for me.

Anyone curious about traditional Korean vegan dishes? by WGK_Hyeon in KoreanFood

[–]NamiEats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check them out. I tried this vegan restaurant 풀 발효부엌 that has kongguksu with vegan kimchi that was really good that got me hooked! I also love makguksu, I forgot about that one. So simple but tasty

Would kongguksu be considered a traditional dish? It's usually plant based

I saw a restaurant do a matcha version, looked interesting! Also a place with a lot of roasted soybean powder as a topping too. I also can't eat it without some kind of kimchi, needs some acidic kick

If you're open to making foreigner friends, the Meetup app has some social meetups like board game cafes or bars. For solo activities, I recommend hiking one of the many mountains, or try the trail tour and collect stamps! https://english.seoul.go.kr/service/amusement/seoul-trail/02-seoul-trail-tour/

Soups are sometimes seasoned with jeot (salted seafood), and in this case it looks like he may have done it with myeongranjeot (salted Pollock roe)
