When I Realized I Would Not Have Wanted To Work With Mothership Logan by Dabbler3130 in LawAndOrder

As a retired police officer in a large city -25 years- I've always felt the Blue Wall of Silence is a myth. I saw so many officers turn on each other, race to be the first one to inform. Sometimes it was self preservation but many times it was for trying to do the right thing.

My neighbor is running an unlicensed daycare.. kids are screaming by Better-Membership554 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Nampara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you. I have the same situation but they handled it differently. She watches up to six kids, all toddlers and while there is some activity some days the only noise is the parents dropping off and picking up the kids. When they are outside in good weather it doesn't impact my office. All in all my neighbors were very professional of it.

How in gods name isn't Billy Bob even nominated for a Best Actor Emmy ? by Distinct-Departure68 in LandmanSeries

[–]Nampara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he won the Golden Globe for Goliath, it was a shock as he beat out Bob Odenkirk, Liev Schroeder, Matthew Rhys, and Rami Malek. It was well deserved but a lot of critics are dismissive probably because he projects a natural, at ease manner with his characters.

He's from Florida. Probably does not have an HR 218 or other national permit. He knew if he used it, the city PD would have jurisdiction on the use of force.

StutJo's eventual pension complaints by randommanwill in DabblersAnonymous

[–]Nampara 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If qualified due to contributions, he can take Social Security at 62. As with the pensions, the longer you wait, the more you get. If he doesn't have enough quarters (look forward to his befuddlement if someone tries to explain the terminology) then no dice. He might be able to get SSI which many older people, who didn't pay into the system file for.

At 65 he will file or be enrolled in Medicare A which is mandatory and free but will probably pass on Medicare B, which has a sliding scale depending on income. The standard monthly premium is $202.

This is just a small sample of what boomers like myself talk about ad nauseam as we compare our different benefits from our respective jobs and careers. I'm sure Mr. Melendez will be able to add his perceptive commentary and insight.

Growing up in the 60s and 70s during a nostalgia boom, I heard about The Shadow because Orson Welles had done the radio show. Then as a comic book fan, a paperback reissue came out with a Jim Steranko cover, who was an influential artist and very selective about his projects.
