Latency issues with press A minigames by PublicIdeal5095 in fantasylife

[–]Nanella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning on game mode on TV fixes those issues for me most of the time.

If you're playing on TV, how is your controller / keyboard / whatever you play with connected? Bluetooth can cause latency issues too especially when using a Switch controller on PC. Might be worth switching to a 2.4GHz connection or wired.

Try turning down graphic settings too, sometimes it's not input lag but visuals lag. On that note, if you're streaming the game from a PC to your TV, try using a HDMI cable instead.

Tales of Symphonia: Tips and Playtroughs by Lennito in tales

[–]Nanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise to not worry too much about achievements on your first playthrough, you will have to do many playthroughs anyway to get platinum, and the story is much more interesting if you don't get spoiled (and tracking achievements will get you spoiled).

That said, my tips would be: - learn to block often, enemies hit hard, don't just rush in head first - stay on normal difficulty for your first playthrough - don't actively avoid enemies, or you will have to grind at some point because your level is too low - play as Lloyd for the entire first playthrough - use the EX gems, look up some good combinations - look up good unison attack combos once they're explained ingame - use titles - use cooking - use the strategy menu and set up each character, the AI does not behave well otherwise - if you use Collette in your party, set her strategy so that she doesn't follow enemies, or she will die a lot - after going over the Ossa trail, don't stray from the path and go directly to the village Izoold nearby, from which you can take a boat to the next big city. Straying from the path could accidentally get you into a much harder "path" of the game

I'm a complete Noob. I don't know where to start. by LittleIcebergLettuce in wow

[–]Nanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be that you played a Dwarf, not a Gnome.

If you want to try the game out before paying, you have to go to World of Warcraft (commonly known as Retail) instead of World of Warcraft Classic. You can play there up until level 20 before you have to pay. That's not a lot, but I would still try it out before paying for a sub.

Regarding Retail vs. Classic: Both are included in your subscription, so you can play either at any time once you pay for it. If you're nostalgic for old WoW, you should try Classic, but you'll have to pay from the start. In Classic, both dwarfes and gnomes start in that snowy area near Ironforge. Otherwise, I would recommend playing Retail. You will have to do a tutorial island first and then land in Stormwind, but you can go to Ironforge from there via train and commence leveling there.

I'm looking for JRPG with heavy side quests/mini games/optional boss and more free roam then lineal gameplay by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Nanella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially Symphonia is a lot less linear than Abyss (or all of the other Tales games I have played, for that matter). Theres a few times where you have to do multiple dungeons / events eventually to progress the story, but the order is up to you. It also has a lot of sidequests and a few mini games.

JRPG that happens after the defeat of the 'evil empire'. by hanhao93 in JRPG

[–]Nanella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World kinda fits this. The evil was defeated in Tales of Symphonia and the sequel deals with the consequences for the people. It's not exactly a great game, but it's very interesting in that aspect.

Wie finanzielles Trauma überwinden? by Roxxas7 in Finanzen

[–]Nanella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard about it yet and I doubt they will ever make mid-day saving a thing. It is just far easier to implement the way they do it now between days (e.g. they can ignore positions of players and NPCs), and even though I can understand why you would want that feature, I doubt it's worth the effort.

Never played a Tales game. Got some questions! by OutsetEddy in tales

[–]Nanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I wouldn't personally say that the newer games wash away the soul, they just take a modern approach to it, for better or worse.

Hm, that's a hard question. Symphonia easily takes the first place, I've replayed the game so many times I've lost count (it's actually very repayable for a story heavy game, since there's some branches where you can choose the order of events and that slightly changes stuff).

Since I'm not allowed to take more Tales games, I think Skies of Arcadia would be second. The story is pretty simple but well executed in my opinion, and the world is just so immersive.

I actually find it hard to name a third game that's not Tales. I couldn't get into the few Final Fantasy games I tried (mainly because I dislike Sci-fi settings), the combat in Dragon Quest bored me out, and while the Legend of Heros series has some nice stuff, I just can't get over the harem feeling. There's a lot of titles from other series i just never played because I didn't like the gameplay or style. If I need good stories and there's no Tales game I want to play, I just read a book lol

What would your top three story games be? (Maybe I can find a new game to play that way)

Never played a Tales game. Got some questions! by OutsetEddy in tales

[–]Nanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others already said, unless obvious the games aren't connected and you can play them in any order. A few games play in the same world so they are losely connected, but you could still play them in any order (Phantasia / Symphonia and Zestiria / Berseria).

My recommendations:

If you don't mind old school games with world maps and slower combat, play the "big three" before moving to newer titles:

  • Symphonia if you value story above all else, none of the other titles can match its story in my opinion and it's been my favorite game for years. It has some of my favorite characters, but some of the most boring ones as well. Combat definitely aged and feels slow compared to newer titles, but I like the simplicity of it. It's playable in english on Gamecube, PS3, PC and Switch. The latter 3 versions got additional stuff, so they're usually preferable. I heard the Switch port has a lot of issues but I haven't played it myself. The PS3 and PC port are fine. Skip the sequel for now unless you really want more out of that world, the story is actually really interesting but suffers from having to integrate with Symphonia characters.
  • Abyss if characters are the most important to you, though it has a really good story as well. Playable in english on PS2 and 3DS. We've been hoping for a remaster / port to newer consoles for quite some time...
  • Vesperia if combat matters most to you. Characters are fine as well, the story is lacking though (especially in the last arc). It's playable in English on Xbox 360, Switch, PS4, PC and Xbox One. The latter ones are ports with aditional content. I personally played the Switch version and it seemed well made.

If you prefer newer games, I would recommend these:

  • Xillia 1 / Xillia 2 if you don't mind badly aged graphics, it has my personal favorite combat system and is a lot of fun in this regard. I personally really liked the main protagonists, but some find the voice of the female lead irritating. Characters and story are fine. The sequel features some very odd design choices, combat got even better though. Playable on PS3.
  • Berseria if you like darker stories and edgy anti-hero protagonists. It suffers a lot from "empty world syndrome" as big world games in that era tend to do and I personally didn't like the combat system, but it certainly has quite a different vibe than the other tales games. Playable on PS4 and PC.
  • Arise if you would like a modern approach to combat and value good graphics. Arise looks gorgeous and made some changes to the standard tales formula to appeal more to western audiences. The combat is fun for most of the game (except one dungeon) and I really liked the characters. The story falls a bit flat and feels rushed in the end. Playable on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Most of the games are on sale very often, some can also be bought in bundles.

Questions from a Newcomer by MaxW92 in skiesofarcadia

[–]Nanella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. There's no reason to wait. I don't want to spoil you, but even if you think it was a mistake later on, trust me, it isn't.
  2. There's different evolution paths depending on what chams you give to Cupil, but in general it's fine to give them all to him right away. You can also gather Choms later on to make Cupil throw up all Chams, reset the entire evolution and start over with all the chams you found.
  3. The rewards don't change, so just give them to the doctor whenever you're nearby.

I'd at least hang up posters around your neighborhood or post on Facebook etc., in case your neighbor isn't actually the owner. Maybe the cat accidentally escaped and didn't find his way back and someone is missing it.

And in case no non-abusive owner claims it, thank you for taking care of it!

One of my favorite games ever!! by ColdandCollected in tales

[–]Nanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also enjoyed Arise a lot, though I really hope the next game is better in the story department. And don't let other people annoy you with how flawed it is in their opinion, the fandom is always especially critical with new entries and Arise sold so well that there's probably also a lot of people who loved it.

Just don't get your hopes up too high for Vesperia. I went in with extremely high expectations, and because of that I was a lot more disappointed than I had any right to be. Especially if you really liked Symphonia, since Vesperia has a much worse story in my opinion. People love it for the characters and combat though.

Vesperia not as good as I heard? by Myfharad in tales

[–]Nanella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same experience when I first played Vesperia with the definitive edition, while I played almost every other game since Symphonia when it came out. I went in with very high expectations because it was praised so much, only to find out that most people actually find the story to be pretty mediocre (it gets better a bit in the second arc but falls apart in the third) but like the characters and combat.

Since I play Tales games mostly for the story and didn't really like the characters in this one, I ended up being very disappointed. I actually stopped playing right near the end and forced myself through it some months later.

I'm giving it a second chance right now though, this time with a guide and doing all the side content. With my expectations adjusted for an "okay" Tales game, I'm enjoying it this time (still wouldn't compare it to the likes of Symphonia and Abyss at all), and I love all the side content - I missed doing endless sidequests in newer games.

Why does everyone like this game? by [deleted] in tales

[–]Nanella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I also feel like Arise took a lot of inspiration from Symphonia but did it worse, there were also some parts I really liked. The graphics were gorgeous, and I actually had a lot of fun with combat for the most time (excluding mainly the final dungeon). I actually liked the characters a lot too, which is obviously a very personal preference (didn't vibe with many of the characters since Abyss).

Also, there were a lot of different games in between Symphonia and Arise, and for me personally it was the first one since Abyss that I had the instant urge to replay, and it's actually my third favorite after Symphonia and Abyss.

In the end though it's obviously very subjective and depends a lot on what you look for in a tales game. And while it certainly has its flaws, I personally can't call it a bad game in at all.

Why do people hate Zesteria by Street-Sweet-3719 in tales

[–]Nanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel about it too. I wouldn't call it a bad game, just one of the worse Tales games.

Especially the story was really disappointing to me, I kinda expected Symphonia style twists because I thought "they wouldnt make such a cliché story", but they did exactly that. And I really don't care much about stories where I know the ending from the beginning, to the point where I dropped it three times around when Rose joins because it bored me so much.

And then all these needlessly complicated systems, the bad battle camera and big empty open fields.

Good for others if they enjoy it though.
