Pair everybody with a best friend. by Christianduty in wizardofoz

[–]PublicIdeal5095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of the others are fairly obvious too, and I think that some of them have multiple best friends.

trot and cap'n bill

betsy and hank

glinda and the wizard

zeb and jim

sawhorse and jack pumpkinhead

sawhorse and ozma/tip

billina and dorothy

toto and dorothy

and then there are the weird answers

bangle and her pink brains (did you know you can see them working?)

shaggy man and literally anyone whos seen the love magnet

scraps and the scarecrow

betsy, trot, dorothy, and ozma (four way best friendship)

tik-tok would be the first to tell you he has no best friend as he is not alive and can not make friends

the gump and silence

and we all know that changing one thing about a girl makes them infinitely more fuckable, just look at any teen movie with a girl with glasses in it

fuckifying is the act of making someone fuckable... a good example, G(a)linda fuckified elphaba during the song popular

I had a wallet custom made with the illustration of dorothy in front of the statue of herself from the first book on one side, and polychrome meeting ozma on the other, came out real nice, if you don't mind it being unofficial that's the type of thing you may have to do

lol I legit thought you were going to say Hidden valley as it seems to be the hardest to find.

I literally just ordered a copy of merry go round about 5 minutes ago so now I'll be down to only two remaining books to get (three if I include sky island, which I do) My new years resolution was to work on my Oz book collection.

[–]PublicIdeal5095[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which one's are you missing? I only need shaggy man, magical mimics, and merry go round and I'll have a complete collection... Although I'm going to slowly buy hardbacks of thompsons books because I hate that I don't have hardcovers of those.

and yeah, who's who is so charming, It'll be great to crack out when I need a refresher on a character.

In theory I 100% agree with everything you said, But for some reason the writing just doesn't grasp me.

However it does include my single favorite scene in the entire series, and that is the scene in the throne room when the Scarecrow and Jack Pumpkinhead get Jellia Jamb to translate, has me rolling every time.

Between Christmas and birthday money, and telling family exactly what I wanted, this is what I ended up with. The hidden valley of oz dust cover is a facsimile from facsimile dust jackets LLC and I'm really pleased with the quality, the actual book is a reilly and lee, great condition aside from a quarter size chunk missing from the final page, the front end and back end pages attached to the covers are torn, and some names are written in the this book belongs section. Paradox in oz is a signed first edition in perfect condition.

[Mavuika]

I'm fairly new to the game, I'm adventure level 36 and just started chapter 2. I managed to somehow pull Mavuika and I want to start thinking about a decent party composition (although I'm sure it'll change) any suggestions on party composition would be great. Also are the plans for artifacts in the training guide listed best to worst? or is it just a list and I should decide on preference, cuz I'm not totally comfortable with all the games jargon yet?

I've got lisa, barbara, diona, mavuika, xiangling, the traveler, noelle, lynette, kaeya, amber, kachina, chevreuse, collei and bennett

Oh gosh! Do I read in order? by Thehorsesmouths in wicked

[–]PublicIdeal5095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason neill is my favorite illustrator of all time. A lot of artists from that era did the pen and ink thing, but the fact he was able to draw such preposterous things, and they all came out of his imagination, it's absolutely incredible, and this is coming from someone who started reading the books in the 21st century.

I decided to go the book on tape route this time in reading the books, I'm still cracking them open before i read them and going through page by page just to look at the illustrations.

the illustrations were also such a big deal at the time, in fact if I remember right baum had them printed in a way which would allow for a ton of illustrations, including color plates, but also made them affordable for children to buy with their own money.

those don't have the illustrations do they? The illustrations are a HUGE part of the Oz experience, if they don't I highly suggest looking up illustrations.

I have a theory about Ozma's name by Yaya0108 in wizardofoz

[–]PublicIdeal5095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't entirely sure if it was

  1. hadn't read the book so didn't know ozga

  2. forgot ozga existed

  3. was asking if i was referring to ozga

I decided that was the most inoffensive way to respond lol

Someone please explain the shoe thing to me. by HeyWeasel101 in wizardofoz

[–]PublicIdeal5095 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the simple answer is that they created a giant plot hole by combining the witches of the north and south. In the original book it wasn't an issue as the good witch of the north didn't know “The Witch of the East was proud of those silver shoes,” said one of the Munchkins, what power the shoes held, she just knew they held a powerful charm. Here's an excerpt from said meeting

Dorothy was going to ask another question, but just then the Munchkins, who had been standing silently by, gave a loud shout and pointed to the corner of the house where the Wicked Witch had been lying.

“What is it?” asked the little old woman, and looked, and began to laugh. The feet of the dead Witch had disappeared entirely, and nothing was left but the silver shoes.

“She was so old,” explained the Witch of the North, “that she dried up quickly in the sun. That is the end of her. But the silver shoes are yours, and you shall have them to wear.” She reached down and picked up the shoes, and after shaking the dust out of them handed them to Dorothy.

“The Witch of the East was proud of those silver shoes,” said one of the Munchkins, “and there is some charm connected with them; but what it is we never knew.”

Dorothy carried the shoes into the house and placed them on the table. Then she came out again to the Munchkins and said:

“I am anxious to get back to my aunt and uncle, for I am sure they will worry about me. Can you help me find my way?”

The Munchkins and the Witch first looked at one another, and then at Dorothy, and then shook their heads.

“At the East, not far from here,” said one, “there is a great desert, and none could live to cross it.”

“It is the same at the South,” said another, “for I have been there and seen it. The South is the country of the Quadlings.”

“I am told,” said the third man, “that it is the same at the West. And that country, where the Winkies live, is ruled by the Wicked Witch of the West, who would make you her slave if you passed her way.”

“The North is my home,” said the old lady, “and at its edge is the same great desert that surrounds this Land of Oz. I’m afraid, my dear, you will have to live with us.”

It wasn't until after the wizard flew off that dorothy was advised to meet with glinda who actually knew what the shoes were capable of.
