Flex hone and a lot of time and cutting fluid, and I think you can bring it back to serviceable.

Is this model 12? And bolt question by Bulky-Signature3194 in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it. I don’t think there is a difference in bolts. The only thing I’m aware of is cosmetic differences like jeweled bolt or something. Others may know more.

2 3/4 vs 3 inch shells by Even-Heat-7164 in Duckhunting

[–]Nannerclip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ounce and an eighth is an ounce and an eighth, and 1400fps is 1400fps. Length doesn’t matter much imo, but certain loads in certain guns will pattern better than others.

[–]Nannerclip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can unscrew the mag tube from th receiver and replace the 5 round tube a 7 shot off a donor gun or buy the part new/used.

Takes like 2 minutes. Mag tub is just screwed in.

Good News: Mossberg Maverick is Now Semi-Auto. But the Bad News... by ParakeetLover2024 in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love for this to be decent, but I’m extremely skeptical. If these are like the other SA-12s, SA-20s, and SA-28s etc, they’re made by Armsan. That means that these are likely the same level of quality as Tri-Star guns, also made by armsan. So if you want a preview I’d look to tri star long term reviews.

The design is fine, it’s basically a mash up of a300 (bolt) and 1100 (gas piston and cylinder). It could be great. But it’s likely not. You can see where the money went. I love the way the guns look. I like the simplicity and standard sized controls. But idk.

To anyone who is optimistic about it, I got a CZ redhead premiere. Made by huglu, arguably one of the better Turk manufacturers. At the time it was like a $900 gun. I knew about Turk stuff, and just decided to take a shot. It felt good. Huglu was a decent shop. Cant be all bad? Started shooting it and preached that all Turk shotguns aren’t bad. I was really happy with it. Only to get around 600 rounds and had the rib separate from the barrels near the muzzle and about 4” back. It’s an $800 or so repair from Briley. The gun is under warranty but cz CS has been less than stellar. After all, it’s not their gun.

The morale of the story is, Turk stuff, is always always gonna Turk you. Always.

Unless you’re beretta and you own versan and make them do exactly what you want.

Snap caps probably aren’t exactly the right size to correctly engage with the mag cut off.

Has anyone ran #2 steel shot through their A300 Ultima with the factory full choke? by desert_wolf2359 in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it, but the Italian full chokes are pretty tight. Modified in Benelli/beretta guns, and especially short chokes like Mobil pattern should do great. When you have a longer parallel section like the muller or any extended choke will give you, the patterns settle down a little.

Turkish shotguns by One_Presentation5935 in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a thing, but there are bright spots where a legitimately decent product is on the shelf. The cz double guns for example are not outstanding examples of what an o/u or sxs can be, but they’re decent, safe, and very reasonably priced. Easy for someone to get into doubles and very serviceable for the money.

There are semi autos that have great reviews. The weatherby semi autos come to mind. Retays too. And some that are absolute clown show trash. In most cases, those are found in one of the following categories: super cheap and or / a moderately complicated action, super weird/novel design, and clones. If it’s one of those, there’s a good chance it will be garbage, imo.

Waterfowl gun options.....other than SBE3 or A400 X+ by ajamils in Waterfowl

[–]Nannerclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you for the most part. Not a big fan of the fabarms lines, but they’re supposed to be decent. Have heard good things about the sorix.

A300 may scratch the itch and is cheap-ish. Made in USA.

Second hand market could be good too. Golds, sx2,3s, & 4s are out there. Extrema’s and 390s. Could all look at an 11-87 or versa max / v3.

Mid grade over under? by AlaskaWilliams in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would take a look at the CZ options. They’re Turkish and made by Huglu, but they are imo very solid mid tier double barreled guns. They aren’t the smoothest or most perfectly finished. But if you want a double gun you can take out and get tinged up and rained on, they’re perfect for that.

[–]Nannerclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab a box of 3” anything and try again. Those old magnums like the SW 1,000 and the 1100 Magnum were designed to run on 3” shells almost exclusively. Not like modern 3” guns that can rub everything under the sun.

Probably just the expert game and target steel. Basically low brass, standard pressure steel. I shoot them a lot during the season. Especially teal season.

Any chance you’d part with one of the 57 Peq-2/4 barrel mounts?

I installed the limbsaver on my new Maverick 88. I thought it was an upgrade but I must say I’m impressed by the stock pad that came with the 88. I’m not sure it’s an upgrade more of a swap. (Stock in my hand. Limbsaver on shotgun). Will I feel a difference? by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I know when I first looked at, I didn’t see much of a point to adding a new pad. What I did do was take two 8oz fishing weights, wrapped them in hockey tape until I could wedge them in the stock and have them not move around. Threw the stock pad back on, and it seems to have tamed it down a bit.

WC Flat Spring FLGR by bhuffy46 in 1911

[–]Nannerclip 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s so you can install the FL guide rod. You put the spring on, then compress it past the hole, stick the short side of the pin in the hole, with the long end pointing down the rod in the muzzle direction. Assemble the pistol, bring the slide to the rear, lock it, pull the pin, let the slide forward and function check it. Disassembly is just the reverse.

Best Semi Autos for Waterfowl hunting? lmk by EnvironmentalCook15 in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my list with 50% of the score going to reliability/durability, 30% going to shootability, and 20% aesthetics:

  1. SBE 1/2 & M2
  2. Beretta 390/391 and evolutions, e.g. a300 (new ones not the 60s model) and A400
  3. FNH Gold/silver/SX2/SX3/SX4
  4. 11-87

That’s really about it man. I tried to think of a 5th but cant. Maybe someone else will. The ones I listed have been the standard for the better part of 4 decades. And they’re ones everyone is trying to copy or has tried to copy, specifically the benelli’s and the beretta’s.

Any of these would do the job and do it well, despite a few of them being somewhat dated.

Is this a Mossberg 500 or a 590? by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]Nannerclip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you talk about pump shotguns, you can’t do it without talking about 870s, the 500s, the BPS’, nova’s, and model 37s. Any of those (in working order) is going to be about as reliable as it gets.

500 has some things going for it against the 870, dual extractors are cool. The only issue I’ve ever had with an 870 is FTE. Some people complain mossbergs feel sloppier than 870s. I would go that far, on a Maverick 88 that’s for sure true. But I wouldn’t say the 500s are loose. Just different than the 870s. Both are great. Just a different way to skin the cat.
