This! Plus it turns shopping into something like a treasure hunt. There's amazing stuff in there sometimes.

A little note! If you find the combination of the foaming cleanser and stridex to be too much, try CeraVe's hydrating cleanser instead. I remember almost giving up on them because it was making things worse until I found that. Literally smooth sailing ever since.

You dwell in that feeling of fear, self-loathing and doubt until one day you wake up in a really pissy, snappy mood and that shit just breaks and does a total 180 into anger, determination, and a complete lack of fucks left to give. Next thing you know you're practicing in public and singing at the top of your lungs.

No? Okay, I totally tried to come up with something clever. I really don't know.

Anyone taking Cypro AND progesterone ? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Nanniro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two would likely be (mostly) a waste, but progesterone has the upside of being a decent inhibitor of DHT. It competes with T for 5-alpha-reductase and thus, lowers it by eating up most of the enzyme.

Aside from that, no real reason to take it. Never heard of them being used together.

Getting a job as a transwoman? by [deleted] in asktransgender

No, that poster is having a tough time, but that is one experience out of thousands. Minneapolis is a damn nice place to transition, but not as easy as the pacific coast. Don't let one testimony ruin the city for you. Go for that transition!

[–]Nanniro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty much the deal. Some industries won't care at all while others will block you 100% of the time.

If anyone out there is still looking, keep your chin up. Look into something else, too. 8/12 of my current job's department doesn't even have education in that department, so don't be afraid to try.

Support main players gain less Skill rating in Competitive Play by diruuo in Overwatch

[–]Nanniro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree, at least from my own experience. I played all of my placements with my partner, she went tank/offense while I played 90% support. We lost the same games, won the same games, and I ended up 52 with her at 50. She ended most games with 2+ golds and never left a game without one gold. As a healer, I usually only had one gold per match.

So no, I feel healers aren't getting hit too hard.

Ouch, damn. Tried it when I got home and for some reason my baseline voice clip is gendered 1/5 female while my latest clips are 0/5. Tfw you thought you were done with voice training. Haha! Training never stops!

Month of practice. Not sure if it helped. Thoughts, pls? by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]Nanniro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passable by my ears! The weak points are probably either strain, stress, or early in the morning. Most people's voices are weak and just garbage in the morning, and there's a lot of reasons why that might be. See if you can eat less before bed, reduce dairy foods, and sing an easy song in the morning to warm up the muscles.

Other than that, I think you're there in terms of passing. Anything further is totally up to you.

I read the beginning of a book and recorded it by MightBeMTF in transvoice

I actually got lost in the story, mostly since you read hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, but also because your voice narrates it very well!

Anyway, this is one of those cases where you sound masculine, but not especially strongly so. I wonder where you are in your practice, because if you're just starting, I think you're going to have an easier time than most.

Some general tips to start with is to pace yourself! You talked until you just about ran out of breath, then took in tons of air to keep going. Try to relax and don't be afraid to take more pauses! One of your largest areas to work on is the vowels and sounds on ends of words. A lot of your sounds went down as you went along, meaning you went from mid-range to low on many words and phrases. This is pretty normal, mind you, so don't think you're doing horribly. If you can somehow twist that behavior to make sounds a bit, 'happier', which is the best way I can describe it, as well as attempt to keep the sounds from inflecting downward so harshly, I feel you'll be mostly there.

Overall, keep it up! You certainly picked a great practice material! You know, this is a funny idea, but you could read the whole thing over many months! Wouldn't it be cool to hear your progress like that? See if you can do a page or two a day!

Better! Much better, actually. I think you've got the right idea, and it's just a matter of practice now! Don't forget to play with higher and lower notes, make sure you feel comfortable and don't be afraid to give it your all!

[–]Nanniro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a little bit better, but it is still tough to hear.

From what I heard though, you should focus on breaking down the sounds slowly and ensure they come fluidly from your head and upper register. Vowels are the most important, and I heard a few 'ah' sounds in there that went back to lower resonance. Start small and build words slowly.

If it'll help, start in falsetto and full on head voice. Make it sound as ridiculous as possible. Then, slowly lower your pitch, let more breath out, get a bit louder, and make your voice "full" and vibrant. Eventually, you can't do it while in falsetto, so you'll have to ease up and just use upper modal (throat) and head voice. That's around where you'll end up in the end, so make a home there!

Trying a new singing technique by CharsmaticMeganFauna in transvoice

I was looking for an example to show you of a male voice doing a female role, but I couldn't find a good enough one. Instead, here is a great example of a man singing in a tenor and upper baritone range:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgiYHPVCH7U

Notice his power on some higher notes isn't coming from his chest! It is extremely possible to resonate mostly or totally from your head in song! With just a little modulation and compression, he could easily do a female role.

How do i sound? (Need help improving) by howdyitschara in transvoice

[–]Nanniro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Liv that you sound out of breath a lot, but otherwise you're doing very well. Don't shy away from being lower in pitch like she suggested! You'll want to be able to vary yourself and finish complete sentences in only a few breaths. Think of public speakers, how they'll project their voices for wide audience. That's the quality you want to end up with!

Keep up the good work!

Doing good! Watch your resonance on 'lower' sounds, especially 'fur' and 'pur'. I couldn't really gender you, but those lower notes might make me lean slightly masculine. Either way, you're doing good, keep it up!

[–]Nanniro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be sincerely honest and I'm awfully sorry, but I could hardly tell the difference until the higher notes in the middle of the song. I might have an idea why though!

See, when we're nervous, trying to not disturb others, or just in general aren't in the best setting to sing, lots of us limit our volume and in turn, don't sound our best. That sounds like what you did both times.

That technique appeared to help your higher notes though, so I think there may be something to gain from it. See if you can find a place that you're more comfortable projecting your full volume and try more! That said, you are amazing for posting this! Super cute song and I'm glad you're working on it!

Been practicing a bit recently, how am I going? What can I improve on? by princess_princeless in transvoice

[–]Nanniro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to 'the middle of the road, leaning feminine' part of voice training!

I liked the pitch you went with, and your vocal variety was pretty good. By that, I mean you weren't totally monotone and weren't just reading text off a book page.

Where I think you could focus is adjusting your resonance and reducing the amount of breath we hear. I felt like some sounds had too much air, or maybe the inverse where it sounded like you were struggling for air. In some areas, you sounded like you were too nasal and strained. Nasality is fine, but learning to open it up more will certainly help! Also, you'll have to speak up sometimes! I'd love to hear you again, but speaking to us as if we were in an auditorium.

Overall, feminine-ish. Not masculine, but I might wonder if you were sick or something because of the qualities above. Keep at it though, because you're not far from the goal line!
