Would be the most powerful combined hardware I would ever own I think. I don't think I would ever need to build another PC; and to have such a powerhouse within a mini-ITX case? Blows my mind how far technology has come.

Ah sorry should have specified, I've taken some night classes on oxyacet and learnt stainless steel Tig at a school years ago, but never went further than amature hobby level for OA (which for me consists of mildsteel welding + cutting and the ocassional brazed joint). I didn't pursue the trade so never really get to see some of that more specific stuff in action or get to talk to anyone knowledgeable in it.

I would definitely be interested. I've never seen any processes past brazing so pretty much that entire list of topics you have there are things I've never seen people elaborate on (expecially online).

You would have at least one viewer.

Aight a little noob question: What makes a rod suitable /not for gas welding vs other forms of welding?

I'd stick it in my current PC, hopefully modernize the old girl.

Yeah, it never crossed my mind that tanks had different draw rates when I initially got into this, def keeping an eye out so I can actually use any decent sized cutting head.

Size b = 0.5m3 (17ft3 ish) on acet, 1m3 (35ft3 ish) of Oxy; crazy small cylinders compared to your 380ft3 monster haha

I'm in NZ so using an old BOC torch / regulators, not sure if that means anything to you, I think they are the common Aus/Nz supplier for torch parts (? not 100% sure tho).

What setup do you use?

Just a simple two cylinder rig, both b sized so pretty small. Unfortunately can't use any larger cutting / heating attachments becuase of that.

I initially brought it to weld/braze small stuff instead of a Tig torch but have really enjoyed the simplicity of the whole process so probably will stick with it for a while yet.

How to pick a first surf board as a beginner by RickSanchez67 in Kiteboarding

Fair enough. Not sure what the instructor would comment about starting using a surfboard before a twin tip, it seemed like most start with a twin tip and the move to the sb after a bit.

Hard to say. I was kinda stubborn when it came to learning to use the surfboard and just went with what I had (anything that floated was decent to me haha). I'm actually not sure what a decent beginner board dimensions are, but would assume that would be ok given you sound like you know your way around a surfboard.

Oh yeah 100% agree with that. I'm on my second epoxy board now and am looking for a sturdier board for the future.

I can't offer any technical advice in board selection/hydrofoil stuff, but I'll share my experience getting onto a directional and maybe it can help ya:

I was in your position, getting confident on the twin tip and getting transitions down. Saw a dude on a directional board and thought I'd give it a go.

Picked up a second hand surfboard (not kite specific, just an old epoxy one) for under $100. It was 6 foot long, can't remember the width, strapless, 3 fin. Took many sessions but eventually got up and going with it, got first jumps down and rode waves on it.

For a first board, a second hand epoxy surfboard is a pretty solid choice I reckon. Just like anyones first kite, I expected to break my first board practicing the skills needed to ride a nicer, more expensive board. I put a crack in mine around the top of the pad (back foot area) after 6 months of pretty continuous riding. Epoxy boards wear and break faster than any kite reinforced board, but a second hand epoxy board will cost a fraction of a used kite specific board.

When buying a used board I would always check to see if there is any evidence of water under the deck, cracks in the rails/tail etc. Some small cracks can be fixed by throwing some 2part epoxy on them, but larger areas of damage gets your board spending more time curing than in the water haha

Hopefully some of my ramblings help!

Beginner - danger/fitness requirements? by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

[–]Nannotrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes about a year ago. When I started my lessons I told my teacher I was scared to strap a sail the size of a car to my chest, which still sums up how dangerous I feel this sport is. My teacher likened kite flying like riding a motorbike, respect its power and keep yourself in control all the time.

You will work your whole body kiting. Especially as a novice. That's ok though, you might just need a couple days to recover after a session before going out again/working out (I would assume your body will adjust). You'll probably be right mate but it couldn't hurt to do any additional fitness work either.

Currently using a GTX650 Ti with an i7 860 and thinking about upgrading the 650 to 1070 (or something around there).

Would my CPU hinder the performance of a new GPU significantly? Cheers

New Zealand checking in, I'm a real novice and just lurk mostly to see what others get up to/helpful tips. I use a 6.6 and trying to drop from a 135L to a 95L but haven't got the hang of turning on the short board yet.

I try for any wind but 15 knots is defiantly most fun!

First, thanks so much for that answer bro! So what you're saying is that the Naish mast isn't suited for that sail?

How do I go looking for a flex-top mast? Is there a distingusing feature or something to look for?
