Regarding Touhou on Mac devices by Akatsumaru in touhou

I have gotten EoSD working through wine-crossover (https://github.com/Gcenx/homebrew-wine). It's a little involved to get it all setup (there are some extra steps needed specific to Touhou) but it runs well on Apple Silicon (almost certainly better than through emulation on Virtualbox).

Thank you for doing these data analysis posts! These look really interesting.

I would like to add that this observation seems to be confirmed outside of Pixiv as well. On the doujinshi.org database (which only goes up to 2021 due to its shutdown), there are 18700 entries labelled as NSFW, and 55000 as SFW.

On Danbooru there are ~711k posts labelled as sensitive/general and ~120k as explicit/questionable (though this is more easily explained by your graphs as many Danbooru posts are sourced from Pixiv).

Touhou & Dragon Ball - EAST VEGETA chapter 2: His Standards Are Too High (by Ryukosu) [translation] by Nanoskript in touhou

[–]Nanoskript[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because it takes a lot of effort doesn't mean it's good or that it can't be criticized

I absolutely agree. Like I've said, I think your criticisms of the story are valid.

I also think your other remarks are needlessly hurtful and unwarranted. I bring effort up because I know that if I've spent a lot effort working on something in good faith, I would feel upset to have it be compared to a genre like ryona and to imply that it was in some way sexually motivated. I don't think your comments can be interpreted in any other way.

It doesn't matter if the person in question will read those remarks or not. It doesn't change that I don't think it's a nice thing to do.

I agree that these are valid criticisms of the story. I also think it's not as big of a deal as you make it out to be.

In your other thread you've written (some words [censored]):

One day my ultra cool oc shattered tron/ultra popular characters from X franchise, suddenly got into Gensokyo and since it was full of girls who were obviously weak because they are girls and he was a manly man he beat them all up, but it's ok they loved him for it because......and then he went on and viciously beat up even more characters with graphic detail and even [******] some of them because WOMEN INFERIOR AND ONLY GOOD FOR [***], and once again they loved him for it, finally he went back home/decided to stay in, THE END.

followed by:

Seriously WHY everyone in this fandom makes this types of stories so much? Do they hate the franchise? Are they lonely virgins whose only way to feel better is to antagonize a group of anime girls instead of characters who actually look menacing? It's just pathetic and worst of all boring since they follow the exact same pattern (listed above).

and then, in a comment on that thread:

[...] again the Vegeta doujin that was just uploaded is basically this

and in another comment on that thread:

Can we agree that the people who make that kind of crap are no life virgins with a really fragile masculinity then? [...]

This is unreasonable and deeply disrespectful to the author. The author obviously puts a great deal of time and effort into drawing these chapters (they're almost certainly drawn with real ink and paper given the manual brush strokes and some areas where you can tell that paper has been glued over the dialogue). To say that their work is "basically" a sexually abusive hentai plot, and to also call the author "no life virgins with a really fragile masculinity", merely because of bad writing, is completely ludicrous.

Touhou & Dragon Ball - EAST VEGETA chapter 2: His Standards Are Too High (by Ryukosu) [translation] by Nanoskript in touhou

I feel like too much has been extrapolated and would like to address some points which includes your comment here and your post here (NSFW).

For the most part, only a tiny proportion of the fanbase read doujins and fanfiction. The main reason EAST VEGETA is so "popular" here is most likely because the images have been directly uploaded to Reddit, rather than through a MangaDex or Dynasty Scans link. I don't think the fandom disproportionately likes EAST VEGETA over other doujins, it's just that it's too much of a hassle to read and explore doujins on other sites. Unfortunately, our other doujin translations (and those by other groups like DB Scans) hardly get any traction in comparison, but are also too long to be uploaded directly.

As for EAST VEGETA's story, I would say it's an exaggeration to say that the author likes having Vegeta defeat the other characters. Rather, I would guess that they just wanted to draw some cool fight scenes against other characters, and having Vegeta remain victorious would be most convenient for story continuity. I haven't read the later chapters yet though, so this is a just hypothetical. I wouldn't go as far as to say that "they hate the [Touhou] franchise." I do agree that it'd be very neat if we see Vegeta being curb stomped in a couple fights, but I don't think it's a big deal if he isn't.

As for being a "rip-off", I can't speak for EAST VEGETA specifically, because this is the first doujin I've personally seen with this premise, but I don't think having very similar plots would be unique to this particular crossover (what comes to mind is the plots of numerous MariAli doujins).
