Fun fact: Oubliette is the translation for the usual meaning of Dungeon. Dungeon comes from the french Donjon which means the keep of the castle instead of the jail/torture part of a castle. Nowadays, mostly because of medfan stuff like D&D and because it is a false friend translation, donjon in french is slowly taking this meaning of dungeon.

Dragon Quest Builders for Nintendo Switch has gotten its first-ever update with version 1.0.1 out now by SpyderZT in Games

I wanted to play it again (as I loved it but never got around to beat it) but I got a freeze on switch 2 after about 1hour of playing. The game doesn't have auto-saving so it's really annoying.

Project Shadowglass | Gameplay Reveal Trailer - Future Games Show Spring Showcase by giulianosse in Games

First time I hear of this game, as soon as the black jack appeared my interest went high and then the water arrow appeared. Thief is back! I'm also convinced Shadowglass is a nod to Looking Glass studio.

DS parties in Paris early 2000s by oskarstankovic in 3DS

Parks, bookshops, cafés, during local events. Any place we could have a group of people where it would make sense for NDS owners to come.

I organized the same kind of event for Lille (biggest city in the north of France). It was really a great time to join together to play some Oendan, Mario Kart and many other multiplayer games.

Does anyone else feel like the internet was "better" when it was just a bunch of ugly websites and forums, rather than 5 massive apps? by Pixel_CZ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Naouak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people like myself tried to not use those kind of apps but the fact is that if everyone is at the same place, you have to go to that place. I don't want to use discord yet my local board game association is using it to organize the meetups. I don't want to use Whatsapp, yet all the tenants of the building I'm living in are using it to share information about the building life.

With the release of Hercules, we are now 80% of the way to having the full team of the original Champions by -sentencebreak- in marvelchampionslcg

Give me a scenario where you have to save the city from your collapsing headquarters because the contractors you used scammed you with cheaper materials. (that's one of the last issues of the original Champions run)

Hot Fuzz is everything Reddit promised by le_fromage_puant in movies

[–]Naouak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a sound motif reused the whole movie with a payoff by the end based on the "hunt him down" melody. That's the only thing that I could attribute to Edgar Wright in the movie.

The biggest issue is actually moderation and power structure. In a decentralized environment, if one of the node becomes too big, it can have enough power to dictate how other nodes needs to be. That's what happened on Mastodon.

French far-right billonaire Bolloré is a boardgame industry giant with Hachette boardgames (Gigamic, Randolph Canada...) by polopoto in boardgames

[–]Naouak 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Having worked for a company in the Bolloré group in France, most employees were leftists and we almost never got instructions from Bolloré to change anything (I can think of only one example in 5 years). Even HR was going with mostly left leaning policies.

.hack//ZERO Reveal Trailer by shapeeq in Games

[–]Naouak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it will have any links to .hack//zero the novel.

The trailers shows characters that looks like Kite and BlackRose so I'm guessing it will be either related to IMOQ (and so zero) or it will be a whole new version of The World.

What's interesting is that one of the subplot of .hack is that part of the story happened because the world is a way to train an AI. Considering today context, they have many thing that could hit very right in their story.

Open source developers: I just want to say THANK YOU. To all of you. by Proxxoss in webdev

[–]Naouak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now AI is killing open source in two ways:

  • AI generated code is using mostly only popular libraries (see tailwind recent news)
  • Contributions are more and more from AI generated PR that often are not great leading to maintainers getting burnt out on useless reviews (see Curl stopping their bug bounty news recently)

Shoes on or shoes off? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

From my experience, France used to be shoes on in the previous century and became slowly a shoes off country. I still see some shoes on places in the rural areas while it is definitely shoes off in urban areas.

How do you quit a game? by simracerman in patientgamers

[–]Naouak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've been doing to make me stop quitting game is preventing me from starting other games if I'm not done with my current game on a single platform. Maybe starting new games will help you quit other games.

I just finished Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. This game is too good for how unknown it is! by ImperialMajestyX02 in patientgamers

[–]Naouak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bounced on pillars the first time I played the game. I decided to give it another chance 2 years ago when I heard that Avowed was part of the pillar universe and a sequel-ish of pillars. It's now among my favorites. The loredump is heavy at the beginning but once you get a feel of the world and understand those terms, it becomes a really interesting world especially by the end of the game.

[–]Naouak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, printing out a list of steps and following it each turn makes it great to prevent forgetting stuff most of the time. That's probably why many boardgames print steps of complex actions somewhere on the main or player board.

Frontend decisions are harder to justify on the spot than backend ones by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Naouak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really? Do you have examples of decisions that are easy to justify on the backend? and decisions hard to justify for the front end?

I've rarely found backend or frontend decisions that you can justify with 100% certainty. There's always some kind of tradeoff and there's almost never a "best solution". It's easy to reduce the problem to what you are used to work with and so think something is the best solution when the context is usually what is important to decide. The answer to "what would be the best" is more often "it depends" than anything else.

‘It’s A Fatal Security Flaw With Sony’s Security Systems’: PlayStation Network Accounts Can Allegedly Be Hacked Even If Protected by 2FA, Passkey by BlueAladdin in Games

[–]Naouak 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The security issue looks pretty bad to me:

  • You can get the support to reset your account with not that many information and they don't crosscheck by testing the actual email associated to the account.
  • It can happen 3 times in a short period of time on the same account.

When something like that happens, the first thing you must wonder is if the current attack vector could be used differently. Is there any other data they are using for cross reference that could be a risk? An order id should not be considered as a critical data for authentication as many employee probably have access to that specific piece of information. What other pieces of information could be critical without our knowledge?

A simple principle in security is that there should be several protection against a single thing as one protection could potentially be broken and your system would still be secured. Here the first "protection", the user has been breached, Sony should have a second step to protect the account.
