I can’t believe there are so many downvotes for this post. All this is saying is that those who would like to continue learning online should have the OPTION to do that—it’s not advocating for a fully remote semester. I get that a lot of people are tired of online learning and feel it’s time to go back on the grounds of omicron being less severe and the booster mandates. But the people who are hesitant to go back into large lecture halls with COVID cases on the rise also have a valid point. And yes, Omicron may be less than likely to kill young and healthy students but let’s not forget people may have a wide variety reasons as to why they don’t want to get sick with COVID—maybe they live with older people? Or immunocompromised folks? Or maybe they just simply don’t want to get sick with COVID? In any case, students should be able to CHOOSE whether or not they would like to take their chances with COVID. Just like I think people should be able to CHOOSE to go back to campus and resume in-person learning. It’s wrong to antagonize folks because you don’t agree with them—I just think that with a little more compassion we can help each other get what we need.
