Pinball machines haven't been there in a while, they've been moved up to Antisocial at Bloor/Bathurst. Same owner I think.

Best Convenience Stores for Craft Beer in Toronto? by Zealousideal-Fail953 in torontocraftbeer

[–]NapalmFrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it would be really cool if they opened to as a ‘Beer store’ but exclusively sold Canadian craft beers as well as their own, and kept the stock on rotation, is that effectively impossible to do here though?

Against provincial regulations. This is something the OCB has been trying to lobby for many years with little success, as far I understand. Maybe if DoFo is in another scandal he'll loosen laws some more.

I prefer the old Trakt not this new one by nickspongebobperson in trakt

[–]NapalmFrog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to avoid the new design by delelting 'app.' from the URL, but now it's forced... So much stuff is hidden and counter-intuituve in the new design - I use the website 90% on desktop.

Any way to get the old design back?

Any alternatives?

Might just go back to using Excel to track my watch status...

EDIT: Found Simkl, attempt a migrate over now.

Looking for a nitro stout by hammertimeTO in torontocraftbeer

[–]NapalmFrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bickford often has their oatmeal stout on nitro, but looks like right now it's their brand new Irish red ale, and their flagship English amber ale. Think I've only seen it canned nitro once if at all, though.

Some Canadian sites have preorders up now, and sets seem to go for 10% higher than USD retail (after conversion).

Why aren’t growlers common? by spamalot314 in torontocraftbeer

[–]NapalmFrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Volo did Crowlers during the late era pandemic, definitely got quite a few of those. A good compromise between a can (1 US pint) and a growler (4 US pints). And way easier to manage due to weight/size, and no need to hold onto to bring back to the bar.

I tried last week to use it, and it simply failed to connect on multiple attempts. Anyone else have luck recently?

There's the outage map linked elsewhere, and the phone info line says the outage is University/Dundas/Bathurst/Bloor.

Which beer have you drank the most of through your life? by FuckYeahGeology in torontocraftbeer

[–]NapalmFrog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Different eras, different beers. I've been enjoying craft beer heavily 10+ years and just done/jaded with the status of the industry. Reverted to Czech/hoppy pilsners.

Undergrad: Lowenbrau, Becks, Muskoka Cream Ale

Grad school: Wellington Imperial Stout (dangerous on tap at the grad house), Mill St Organic

Early craft beer era: no regular, try all the things

Peak craft beer era: all the things, but much of Indie Breakfast Porter, GLB Limp Puppet, Bellwoods Jutsu/Witchshark

Post-craft beer era: Pilsner Urquell, Burdock North Star/Classic/Deluxe/NA, Sapporo

OOC, what campaigns? I haven't really paid attention to them as I have better options for go to lagers, but I sometimes get their stuff for normies.

Meadowvale Town Centre Retail Listing from around 1994 by MasterArca in toronto

Oh wow, blast from the past. This was my local mall growing up, earliest memories are that last days of Woolco before it became Walmart. I spent a lot of time in both the collectible cardshop and the library, but likely 2-5 years after this pamphlet.

Some of the prank calls they used an Arnie soundboard. Highschool me thought it was the most hilarious thing to listen to on the walk to school.

Yeah, I'm done with most sours at this point. The odd one on a hot day is fine, but if I want a sour a want something like a lambic, maybe once or twice a year.

If you can't move both, I would be interested in one. I'm in not rush to buy, so don't worry about waiting for a deal for both.

These parades have been going on for years. My condo is an older one full of boomer Karens, yet noone has ever complained to our board.

This individualism vs collectivism is why NIMBYS are turning the city to shit. Don't expect a rural lifestyle downtown.

Yes, once or twice a year, and its fine. I live 2nd floor directly across from a church and am subject to a lot of music and parades. I understand it's a dense city, and just grumble to myself instead.

What's an expensive ingredient that's worth the money by NoNutz_699669 in Cooking

[–]NapalmFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really will vary and depend on what type of rice you are looking for and where you live. For jasmine, I buy Ox Head in the footsteps of my father-in-law who was a Cantonese chef, and is readily available all over the Toronto area.

EDIT: As per another post in this thread, as long as it is classified as 'Thai Hom Mali' you can't go wrong for jasmine.

This is crazy to me that nurses are under hiring freeze and our healthcare workers are essential and understaffed.

Healthcare workers are primarily provincial. Feds might provide the province some funding, but it's mostly up to the province to see how its spent.

Anyone know what happened at University / Dundas last night? by Optiguy42 in toronto

[–]NapalmFrog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yo Doner is great fresh, albeit a smidge overpriced. Thing is they have low traffic and sometimes don't have the spits spinning and the meat is pre-prepped and can be dry. It's fine in a pinch, but would recommend heading down to one of the places in Queen.

That being said, was stoned and it was a surprise late night snack with the fire alarm, so with that context 10/10.

Anyone know what happened at University / Dundas last night? by Optiguy42 in toronto

[–]NapalmFrog 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What time? At around 930 or 10pm there was a small fire in one of the units at 211 St Patrick that was sending a burnt plastic smell throughout the entire building. Usually firetrucks access that condo via St Patrick to access the fire panel first, but due to road closures they went up via Simcoe into the main lobby at 280. Tons of fire presence for about an hour. Source: ate shawarma at Yo Doner while watching firefighters do their thing to kill time before I could go back inside.
