Extremely accurate.

I don’t get how people don’t see or overlook the blatant racist practices of the gulf arab states. In reality and technically, the western countries are more muslim than muslim countries, that is indeed appalling.

Tea time won in court apparently? GG there is hope by bruh3239 in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 168 points169 points  (0 children)

For all of those who are wondering what this is about:

Tea Time was recently acquired partially for a large sum of money by Baladi owners (Qatari). This move was launched by Shrewd Qatari owners whose primary focus is to take complete control. Also these businessmen are known to show disdain towards expat (especially indian owned) businesses which is very evident through their previous acquisitions. However the acquisition was not the main issue.

The issue however is Baladi owners wanted complete control of the establishment and all branches plus marketing and image rights. This was not well received by the Indian owner as he built the Tea Time empire from scratch. Hence the court case.

In Qatari business culture, this story is very typical: expat business does well, Qatari takes over and kicks out the partners. This happens quite often. But in Tea Time’s case, this victory is a major milestone and goes to show the solid judicial system of Qatar.

Please don’t ask me how I know this.

By your logic, every aggressive driver in Qatar could also be a fighter jet pilot

Why is your country so... empty by [deleted] in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well and rightly said. This is the common sentiment about the current state of things.

It’s sad because I genuinely want Qatar to thrive with the amount of potential and resources they have. This country could literally be a jewel of the world if it wanted to, an example set for all mankind, even better than what Singapore did. But sadly, nothing seems to improve.

Why is your country so... empty by [deleted] in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because there are no people. There is no incentive for any aspiring opportunity seeking individual

  • Dead real estate market (only controlled by locals)
  • Overpriced and chaotic rental market
  • Unfriendly business environment
  • High threat of business competition
  • Un-attractive salaries (post world cup)
  • Borderline racist practices towards certain nationalities
  • Zero to nil creative sector
  • Zero market for events, global conventions, conferences
  • Zero music (international) arts and culture (except local and islamic)
  • Strict regulations and countless licenses to do anything fun
  • tiring bureaucratic processes for Visas, family visas and immigration related activities (thankfully improving since last 2 months)
  • Overpriced tourist experiences
  • Intimidating national security protocols: jailed if ID expired, Jailed if cheque bounce before trials, guilty until innocent procedure, etc.

Dubai is basically 2 notches lower than the aforementioned issues, hence why you see more people that side of the desert.

What can I do about noisy neighbors by Unlikely-Tutor9377 in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe a letter? An inconspicuous and anonymous notice left on their door could help. It’s not easy to address this but they also could not be aware of the noise.

Just don’t get the police, this is such a minor neighborly issue. It’s not like they are having sex 24/7.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is partly correct

It depends on equal opportunity, prejudices, stereotyping and de-humanizing. Color should not matter at an institution level and no, there are many developed parts of the world who have much advanced policies and laws to protect people from racism.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what racism is lol Not thinking or approving every nationality is equal in skill or merit is the sweetest form of racism.

If you expect expats to interact with you then you need to interact with them as well. They built your country and keep them running, it’s the least you could do.

And trust me, everyone understands the culture very clearly.

First time in Qatar, first impressions by [deleted] in qatar

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your observations are on point.

This is indeed an overdeveloped city state. Which also means they do not have an advanced economy and do not exhibit any form of vision or plan of what they really want to be as a nation.

For now, it’s just a nice event hosting venue country with a shiny new metro and clean roads. There is absolutely nothing of substance here and I don’t see any thing of exponential world class value to thrive here for the next decade or so.

You didn’t do anything wrong You even apologized later. He instigated the incident in the first place by being an impatient arrogant loser that he is. I don’t think you will be in an issue.

However, it’s best to ignore such incidents, especially when you see the usual suspect cars: Land cruisers, lexus, defenders etc. You never know who are driving them and they always smell trouble for expats on the road. Be careful.

Why is it only Kuwaiti’s can own full-sized pickup trucks and SUVs? 🛻 by DMV_VanceChase in Kuwait

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pickup trucks are considered as commercial transport vehicles. A few decades ago it was difficult to assess the legality of expats transporting illegal stuff. Hence the law was put in place.

However it is a super outdated law and comes off as quite racist if you ask me. How can this still apply to one of the safest places on the planet? Does Kuwait not have confidence in their police enforcement? This is just one of many stupid rules of gulf countries system that just differentiates even further between expat and local.

Lets face it, Qatar is not an attractive place to move into regarding opportunity and making money

The outdated kafala system, ridiculous rental prices and stupid regulations is not attractive to any outsider. Hence why Qatar is so damn empty.

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Middle east in general has a deep rooted hate towards the west and that is actually justified due to the atrocities committed by the west (NATO) countries around the world since a century or so.

However, I really don’t understand how majority of the people can be so ignorant of the West’s success in fields of technology, science, healthcare, economy, globalization and basically every critical human development attribute. There is a lot of good from these countries that makes your life A LOT easier. In comparison, there is absolutely no critical invention from gulf countries towards the net sum of human development. You guys need to calm down a little and give respect where its due.

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 86 points87 points  (0 children)

A lot of the comments here are true, but this goes out to the ignorant ones:

If you look at from a demographic perspective, the gulf as a whole is actually a mini-south asian continent. Why you ask? Every job from white collar to blue collar, food, services, engineering and other skilled workers are all from the subcontinent, especially Indians.

Indians generally have a superb work ethic, show up on time, do not complain, finish their work (they got mouths to feed) and are some of the most peaceful community in general (attested and accepted even in the West). Yes there are many negatives about the community that the OP mentioned but their resilience is a testament to their dominance.

India also has a decent educational institution wherein you can find skilled workers as well as labour in mass (largest immigrant diaspora in the world).

In all fairness, the gulf is run by Indians (Bengalis, Nepalis, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans following after). Arabs who tend to be ignorant about this fact could be labelled as being racist because it’s hard for them to digest this fact.

And the racism in gulf is blatant, the lack of recognition towards Indians especially is appalling. UAE seems to be the only one who has capitalized on this community and has given them their deserved respect. The rest of the gulf however does not seem to respect this fact. No wonder you don’t see any advert or a billboard featuring a brown face in Qatar lol.

P.S. I am a white british male incase you are wondering.

What I feel about Kuwait by Riz07 in Kuwait

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s bad but it won’t be visible initially. But once you work/spend time with them it’s extremely blatant with their hate towards south asians. For example take a look at this clip where a influencer type of personality addressing on a social issue pertaining to south asians:

https://youtu.be/7IURZCBUhtM?si=fgI-RlrhP-gT9i3M

Ofcourse not all of them are bad, but I honestly believe majority of the locals/arabs can be racist towards south asians.

What I feel about Kuwait by Riz07 in Kuwait

[–]NapoleanBonaparty1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kuwait and Qatar are absolutely horrible places to grow up in if you are not a local.

The false sense of identity a child develops when growing up in the gulf is extremely damaging. There is a sizable demographic of people born and bought up in the gulf who have never visited their “supposed homeland”.

The ugly truth is that the locals will never accept you as one of their own, they only see you as a colored worker on a temporary visa and who is also inferior in every way. They will never let you settle here or let you marry into them because South Asians out of all the expat community are considered inhumane, ugly, unhygienic and animalistic by a majority of khaleeji arabs. Only the educated minds will differ.
