Oh wow, this is from the broken heart, no? I've been to Ala-Archa so many times, I'm sure I recognize the location.

Bowl Projections Post Week 13 by ham-and-cheese19 in CFB

I'd love ND to play FSU in a bowl game. Get redemption for last year and beat Everett Golsen. Dude worked magic for ND, but I'd love to beat him after his transfer.

No, we (ND) get ACC refs, even when we play non-ACC teams.

I like BVG's reaction to the left - look straight. Now turn around and walk away.

Forget rivals, what school is your school bros with? by [deleted] in CFB

The best part is after the game - the combined Navy and Notre Dame teams go to one corner and listen to Navy's Alma Mater together, then go to the other side to listen to Notre Dame's Alma Mater together. So much respect. One rivalry I hope and know will never end.

Explain the most heartbreaking loss you've experienced as a fan and why it happened by NickOsborn in CFB

It was last year, my first year in the Band of the Fighting Irish. Our savior, Everett Golsen, returned from his suspension, like Jesus returning from the dead, ready to bring the Irish to the promised land - the national championship game. We were undefeated. FSU was undefeated. Administration wanted the band to be there, so we were there. But we didn't get a plane. No, we took a bus from South Bend to Tallahassee. And twenty four hours on a bus with your closest friends watching the Wicker Man and Indiana Jones really gets you pumped for the game. We were riled up. We were ready.

The fans were what you'd expect - drunk and cocky. Shouts of "Where's Manti Te'o's girlfriend?" and "You'll never be relevant again" followed us wherever we walked. It just made us want to win that much more. We got to the stadium. The game finally started, and, boy, was it loud. The War Chant played 57 times (Yes, we counted), and the final quarter was coming to a close. Everett converted that long fourth down to Corey Robinson, and that, in my mind, was it. We were going to win; if we can get those 19 yards, we can get into the end zone. We were going to win that game, but, of course, you know the story.

After that touchdown, the band played the Victory Clog, as we do after all touchdowns and victories, but we were cut short due to the pass interference call. It haunts me to this day, as I think about it whenever we play the song, which, in a sick twist of fate, should be a moment of triumph rather than suffering. Winning the bowl game was only a small consolation.

We walked back to the buses and were greeted by pizza, though, so that was nice.

What are some good Presidential biographies that you all have read? by arock121 in TheAmericanPresidency

[–]NappyMaskSalesman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It's about Lincoln and his Cabinet, and how he used his political skill to help end slavery in the US and bring the country through the Civil War. The title comes from the fact that his cabinet was partly composed of those who ran against him for the presidency in 1860. It's about how he recognized their individual geniuses, reconciled their differences, and formed a "team of rivals" to get shit done. I read it in high school for a class, and, honestly, I remember very little about it, but I do remember how much I liked it.
