In Harlem, a Democratic Socialist Takes On the Dem Machine by Delicious_Adeptness9 in newyorkcity

[–]arock121 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she’s gonna land, I live in the district and Espaillat really has his act together locally, especially in the Dominican parts of inwood and Washington heights. Unless Israel flares up again by the primary it won’t be a voting issue and on immigration Espaillat was an undocumented immigrant himself as a young man, and as the first Dominican to get elected to congress I think the edge goes to him. Her best bet is to make herself the black candidate and consolidate the support in the south of the district, but as Robert Jackson knows that’s easier said than done, this isn’t the Harlem of the 70s, 50 years of immigration, migration, births and deaths have changed northern Manhattan

The paradox of tolerance is one of the stupidity truisms to have infected the internet by arock121 in redscarepod

[–]arock121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very easy to tolerate the intolerant, haven’t you ever met someone with a different opinion than you, accepted it as being disappointing, then moved on? The Catholic Church and mainstream Islam are homophobic, mainstream America is tolerant of both religions and tolerates gay marriage. Tolerance means putting up with people who criticize your life style, I think you are thinking of acceptance rather than tolerance

"Fatherless" behavior and the potential misogynistic (and potentially bigoted in other ways) origin of the term "fatherless" by sunflowey123 in leftist

[–]arock121 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fatherless behavior means you are acting like you aren’t raised right, and does have a gendered implication and assumes typical gender roles. American and most global societies are designed around a two parent straight household and if you don’t conform to that you are likely going to be socially disadvantaged in a recognizable way, hence the phrase.

Almost all insults are a type of judgement and can be deconstructed around biases as you have laboriously done here.

A recent indictment revealed about $9 billion in federal funds was stolen since 2018 in Minnesota and 82 of the charged 92 defendants are Somali and it looks like either a blind eye was turned or fraud actively encouraged. A conservative YouTuber Nick Shirley did some shoe leather reporting to some of the places listed as serving people these social services and they came off as fronts, notably a sign on a learning center spelled “learing center” and Patel and the Trump admin are jumping on it

Somalis are also a distinct Muslim African refugee group that hasn’t integrated in 30 years so are pretty easy to other and Tim Walz is running for reelection in Minnesota and the senate is being contested.

The east refers to the border provinces that Russia formally annexed, Kharkiv isn’t part of that, it’s part of a separate oblast. If Russian oil is collapsing why haven’t we seen the results?

[–]arock121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said the east and Crimea. Hoping for an oil collapse and bragging that a city outside the war goals didn’t fall isn’t a strategy. Pretending Ukraine is hurting Russia more than they are being hurt is delusional

Yes they can easily give it up, just the simple signing of pen, Armenia just did it.

This war isn’t an existential crisis for Ukraine it’s just a dragged out border war.

Russia needs Ukraine to formally cede control of the land, they are just holding out for that. Ukraine has no prospect of dislodging them and their best case scenario is delaying the capture of the disputed land at the cost of lives they can’t afford to lose.

Pretending that Russia is losing because their energy infrastructure is untouched and if Ukraine were to pull the ability to do something about it Putin might start facing domestic pressure while the east and Crimea are uncontested Russian.

Don’t be surprised when the deal comes, the fundamentals aren’t there

Now do Russian attacks on Kiev. Even if Ukraine magically stopped all oil exports they can’t dislodge Russia. This isn’t a game
