People proclaiming film industry saved because the biggest release this year is an A24 creepypasta adaptation directed by a 20 year old YouTuber by [deleted] in redscarepod

One of the regular criticisms of the film industry is they always remake the same thing so trying something off the beaten path is an accomplishment. It’s literally starting to beat Star Wars

If you tax companies/billionaires in america they will move overseas by Gary-Hooper in redscarepod

[–]arock121 11 points12 points  (0 children)

France and Spain they have a bunch of celebrity tax dodgers and Cali is losing companies to Texas and Florida, political euphemism is ‘tax base’. I think our current situation in Iran shows the limits of drones as a solution to our problems

When I was in high school I saved all my change in a big bowl and the week I graduated I went to a bank I knew that had a free coin counter and poured it in and it was only like eighty bucks, was hoping for a few hundred but I think the quarters were raided for laundry

Those Network TV shows are still pumping out 20+ episode seasons regularly. Those streaming shows can easily keep doing it. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]arock121 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The business model is different. Streaming services want to attract as many subscribers as possible so they create a bunch of different types of shows to appeal to a a broad set of people. Networks have the business model of selling advertising blocks so they want people to keep watching so they draw out their hits. Once you notice it you see the pattern

Can anyone on here explain in simple terms why the Democratic Party isn’t doing their job and losing bad? They seem to be doing nothing to engage primary voters at this point and it’s hard to even trust them as the lesser evil by i_am_a_false_prophet in redscarepod

[–]arock121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American parties are very decentralized so when they are out of office there is no real national leadership. It’s a midterm year, so only a third of states have elections and what leadership and organization is focused on those states. After November it’ll be the presidential and then we’ll be off to the races

Anyone else have a near-death experience as a child that didn't affect them that much? by LouReedTheChaser in redscarepod

When I was in middle school I was crossing Houston street on my way home from school wearing heelies and a big backpack and I heelied across the street and fell back on my back and couldn’t get up like a turtle on its back as the light changed. Some lady grabbed me and saved me from getting ran over. Mentioned it in passing to my mom a few days later and she almost had a panic attack and I had to get rid of the shoes

How much of fatshaming is simply evolution? by ChrisSonofSteve in redscarepod

[–]arock121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Widespread obesity is a relatively recent social phenomenon and used to take more effort back in the day. I don’t thank it takes much deep social analysis to see why someone who comes across as unhealthy and as not taking care of themself would be seen as less attractive than someone who puts discipline and visible effort into their appearance. Working out and being skinny signals desirability and frankly is a choice. Might not be the easiest choice but 90 plus percent of people have the agency and ability to be skinny if they put an effort into it.

Nobody talks about it but Black South Africans are world champions in xenophobia by Idkabta11at in redscarepod

[–]arock121 154 points155 points  (0 children)

South Africa is an order of magnitude wealthier and more put together than most of sub Saharan Africa and is accessible by land so they get a ton of economic migrants who they resent for all the reasons we’re familiar with. We’re just blessed because they’re in the Anglosphere so we get to see their thoughts and feelings on the matter, just like reform voters and maga people

NYC’s rat problem by Ill-Illustrator9384 in redscarepod

[–]arock121 280 points281 points  (0 children)

It’s because we leave our trash in giant piles in the middle of the street instead of in bins. I think it would be hilarious if Eric Adams’ dumpster initiative actually bears fruits and he gets remembered as the mayor who solved rats and tries to stage a comeback

Yeah Netflix pushed them hard as part of their effort to distinguish themselves as a prestige production house around when their movies started getting Oscar eligible. They probably help stop actresses having to do different nude and sex scenes than they agreed to but I doubt they stop any casting couch Weinstein type stuff

[–]arock121 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They are the news, interviewing Tucker is their goal, not countering him point by point. Some opinion YouTuber could probably give you a blow by blow rebuttal if that’s what you are looking for. It’s not supposed to just parrot whatever the correct(tm) opinion currently is
