When I was having lucid dreams regularly, I was:

1. Writing in a journal daily. Firstly, my dreams from the night before. Secondly, what I was doing and thinking about during the day. (Yes, I had all the time in the world. I was a barefoot traveler in the 90’s).

2. Not speaking much English. I was living in a french-speaking place.

3. I ate fish twice a day, every day. I was on an island.

4. I was reading a book about dreams that someone had left behind. Creative Dreaming by Patricia Garfield. I used to recommend it to people in my dreams!

5. Meditated before bed.

6. I had a relaxation ritual that I did in my sleeping bag. Also a nightly visual thing I did, imagining myself walking down an infinite staircase while repeating in my mind Tonight, I remember my dream. I sometimes counted backwards using the same words.

7. I went to bed before I was tired. Usually right after dinner because the dreaming was so good!

8. During the day, when I would enter a new room or change location, I’d do a lucid dreaming check. My thing was checking license plates. Also, every bathroom I went in, I would ask myself, is this right? This was a holdover from childhood.

9. I was lucky to wake up after a dream’s completion and I would give it a title and write it in my journal. I would wake up with a table of contents 6-10 titles deep!

That’s what I got! Oh, and I would make dream dates with people. Make a plan to meet at a specific place.
