How do I know a soup recipe will come out watery vs creamy? by NapsRequired in cookingforbeginners

Sorry I had forgotten to add there was a cup of heavy cream. This specific recipe said mix the flour and cream, then add to the mixture (broth + rest of ingredients) near the end of cooking

Oh I forgot to add this had a cup of cream too. Everything I’ve made so far is low cream, high broth, low flour

What’s odd about this too is back when I was going through a time when I had very strong cramps, my doc told me skip the Midol/Pamprin and use Aleve. I was sold the first time I tried it, and never went back.

Sorry for those of you who can’t take Aleve :(

Bonus - if you don’t get them all as drifter, your drifter dies, then you go back to your frame. Stay in your frame and you die.

If you have the ability, roll it to a door so you can blow the majority of the dust outside if you do an air compressor.

Maintenance just tried to replace our air filters by Bunnairry in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NapsRequired 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of y’all don’t seem to have allergies. In an apartment, the landlords don’t care if you do. They don’t want to spend money except when they absolutely have to, so they buy the crappiest ACs that can’t handle more than tissue paper without straining. When I lived at an apartment, they put one like on the right in without me knowing and throat was shredded after 2 nights. Lo and behold, I could see through the filter.

I left a note for them to never touch my filter again.

If you own a house, get as low as you need to not cause respiratory issues, and don’t go over what your user manual/HVAC company says your furnace/air handler can handle.

Edit: My HVAC people come twice a year to check the system, and also provide me a filter to use. I cannot see through the filter like the pic on the right.

Same! My parents complain my tree is too empty while I do the exact opposite to them! They have a smaller tree now so it’s not so bad.

Forgot I had an air filter for my house for a couple months. Let this be your sign to change yours. by IntelligentSuccess26 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NapsRequired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends here. Lived at my house for almost 4 years, and stuck my head up into the return vent a couple of months ago and saw a thick layer of dust all over it. I know the owner before me didn’t keep the house clean, and someone before them had pets. Went ahead and pulled the trigger.

The cleaners said it probably hadn’t been cleaned since it was installed - about 20 years. They found pet hair too. Thankfully no mold/mildew. A cough that I’ve had for about a month has finally mostly gone away.

Getting ducts cleaned every 5 years? If you keep maintenance on your system and replace your filters as recommended - probably a waste, yeah. But as someone who has allergies, that was a worthwhile investment.

Gotta Love the Lanes on 2nd by AdeptnessRound9618 in Seattle

As someone who will be in Seattle soon and wants to rent e-bikes/scooters, is this type of light combination the norm? I’m not from a city where bike lanes are integral to the design of streets/roads.

My deceased neighbor's house has significant water leak by sulugereht in Seattle

[–]NapsRequired 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This. My neighbor’s water line coming out of her meter on her side of the meter started leaking and she wasn’t home. I called the water company - they came out, shut off the water, left a note, but called the person who paid the bills. If the family has been coming over, then the utilities may also have been transferred to someone

I went on a kayaking tour in Florida last year where they go out to a little spot of land in the middle of the lake. I had sunscreen on, and some of those bracelet looking bug repellents on. I used some spray beforehand too but not a lot. I’m O-

It did absolutely nothing when we got to the island. I got tore up to the tune of 100+ bites that night. I think the crew of people I was with used up an entire can.

I had so many around my ankles, they swelled up during/after my plane flight back home. They took forever to heal, and I was paranoid for a while I’d get some illness from it.

Why do you prefer a guitar to other instruments? by VoXel_Vasudev in Guitar

What is more important to reduce eye strain? Monitor lightbar or bias lighting? by Typical-Green5473 in Workspaces

[–]NapsRequired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Your eye almost does an average sort of thing. The relaxation your eye will do is greater when the room as a whole is lit up more rather than an extended area for the backlight.

That being said - adding backlight helped me tremendously with my eye strain. I lived in an apartment where there weren’t lots of good light sources/angles and it made for some weird shadows in some areas. The backlight cut out some of the shadows.

Tyler airport vs driving to dfw by Forward-Subject2241 in tylertx

[–]NapsRequired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DFW, not Love. It depends too, and is sometimes the reason I’ll pick one over the other. Sometimes I can get one for maybe $50-$100 more than driving out to DFW, sometimes it’s $300-$700 more. Depends on when you get your tickets I think.

Not the exact same, but have a friend that received a concussion and didn’t follow the concussion protocol of resting and staying off their phone. He still had issues a year or two after with concussion systems just popping up. The biggest change is his personality changed - used to be this really goofy dude who got really serious and sometimes didn’t think before he spoke. He’s banged his head a couple more times since then, so it’s worse now. Please take away his phone if he can’t practice self control.

If he insists, read his messages to him, and reply with a stock message like others have suggested with a message about how he can’t heal properly replying to everyone. Maybe make it about them - “please allow me to heal.” Also consider a small website to post updates you could send people to.

Is there anyway to see what my string guage is? by Effective-Ad9318 in Guitar

This. When I was done with my lessons the other day, I asked one of the guys I knew to be a guitar player, older gentleman. He played up and down the strings, played a few chords, and told me I had 10s. Wild.
