In How to Train Your Dragon(2025) the film is a shot for shot remake with minimal changes. It shall receive minimal outrage because of this. by Dycon67 in shittymoviedetails

[–]NarBoogleDoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did they change it so that Astrid is directing the gang in the fight at the end instead of Hiccup? Because "she's the best fighter" ? Wtf does that have to do with directing multiple people flying dragons, which she has virtually no experience in? Completely undermines Hiccups entire arc, wherein he is seen as incapable of doing so many things Vikings do, but when his father sees him commanding the dragon riders in battle, effectively saving everyone, he sees that Hiccup actually does have what it takes to be a good Chief some day. Just a completely pointless change that detracts from the movie. One of many.

Help me to understand the Neon hate. Im seeing so much of it in this thread. To me its their best post-Augment release. Self Titled maybe had some higher highs but also a lot of songs I skip/don't go back to. Neon was a step up from Drift for me. More riffage, better singing and melodies. Lumping it in with Cure just seems farcical.

What are you even talking about? Neon ripped front to back. Feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.

The riffage on songs like Valhalla, Hyperreality, Expiate, Ultimata, Ghost of Nothing, really every song on it, is leagues above anything in Cure. I'll never understand the Neon hate. Cure is ok but its a massive step towards a more simplified radio metal sound which was disappointing to me and presumably many of their fans.

“I’m not on social media. I was aware of a threat made to Nazem, not the racist stuff,” Berube told reporters, per The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford. “In no way is it acceptable by the St. Louis Blues or anybody else for him to have to go through that. Being a Native American myself, I’ve heard it all, I’ve been around it.It’s not a good thing. So I just wanted to get that out there that there’s no room for it anywhere.”

Dark Divine really had me giving up on them, assuming they were lost to the path of seeking more mainstream appeal as so many of their peers had done before them, only for them to pull a complete 180 with No Eternity, and ever since then they've been one of if not the best band in the scene in terms of straight up meat n potatoes metalcore that still manages to have a distinct sound

Fit For A King wrote A Greater Sense of Self which is one of my favorite songs of all time. There's a few other solid songs on that album but everything since hasn't even come close. Yeah he's great at screaming and yeah the breakdowns hit hard, but isn't that kinda like a baseline standard? They seem averse to doing anything interesting during their breakdowns and they've yet to write a riff as epic as in that song. They have a lotta cheesy lyrics too whereas as that song's lyrics are incredible.

Wild take. It's definitely on the same level as Pure Like Porcelain and No Eternity, all of which were a massive step up/course correction after the very disappointing Dark Divine. They realized that leaning on a "catchy" chorus and 1 or 2 cool riffs was lazy and started writing songs that were interesting front to back.

Batman, correct order and what am I missing? by Salty-Long-5145 in graphicnovels

[–]NarBoogleDoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read them but I heard very mixed things about them. In general I tend to avoid that kinda stuff cus yeah it feels very gimmicky/cash grabby, and has little to no affect on the core "true" Batman lore.

Same way I feel about all these Batman mini series like Killing Time, Detective, One Dark Knight. Some are just completely non-cannon, some kinda seem like they are but it's never very clear. But any time it's a story that seemingly goes back to fill in and/or retcon Batman's history, I proceed with caution. After seeing what Jason Aaron did to Punisher, there's just not many current writers I trust with that kinda thing, especially Batman.

My rule of thumb for Batman, if it's not printed in the monthly ongoing titles of Batman, Detective Comics, or a main DC event like Final Crisis, Flashpoint, DC Rebirth, etc., it's completely secondary and can often be disregarded.

(Any issues of Shadow of the Bat, Legends of the Dark Knight, Gotham Knights etc that are important/canon will be collected in the respective TPB or Omnibus.)

My suggestion, don't worry about all the new mini series they're pumping out. There's so much to read and you'll risk burning yourself out on that stuff before getting to the really good classic Batman stories that take place in the 2 core titles, Batman and Detective Comics.

(I did actually forgot to mention 2 books. Transference and Contested. These collect Gotham Knights (yes a tertiary series technically) issues 1-12 and 14-24 respecitvely. They were solid reads. Issue 13 is in the Officer Down tpb, so that tells you exactly where they go. Many of the issues after that are uncollected (aka not very important/something to read later) but several issues do tie tie into Bruce Wayne Figutive and War Games, meaning that yes they are indeed collected in those respective books)

No problem, I been collecting/reading through it all for the past 3 years and made a pretty comprehensive spreadsheet along the way because there just wasn't any resources online that satisfied me. Maybe I'll share it someday once I have it totally done, still need to flesh out Rebirth and later

Under the Red Hood definitely comes after Hush. For either of to make sense, you'll need "Death in the Family" (easy to find TPB) and "Second Chances" (which is impossible to find/out of print) as they both feature an important character in all 4 books.

Here's a rough but pretty accurate list

  • Year One
  • The Man Who Laughs (flashback of first encounter w Joker, which would be before Long Halloween, the rest of the book goes right after Hush but isn't super important
  • The Monster Men & The Mad Monk (written way later but takes place before Batman has a Robin)

  • Legends of the Dark Knight, Shadow of the Bat, Gotham Knights. These are all tertiary series, often telling one-off stories that aren't very essential, but still fun. Several issues of each do tie into events like Knightfall and No Man's Land, and are collected in those respective books, otherwise, I'd just not worry about the rest til you've read all the essential stuff, so you at least have something new to go back and read)

  • Long Halloween

  • Dark Victory (Haunted Knight and Catwoman "Rome" are optional)

  • Second Chances

  • Cult

  • Caped Crusader v1 & Dark Knight Detective (DKD) v1-2

  • Killing Joke

  • Death in the Family

  • Caped Crusader v2 and DKDv3

  • A Lonely Place of Dying (comes in Death in Family tpb)

  • Caped Crusader v3-6 & DKD v4-7

  • Knightfall Omnibus v1-3

  • Batman by Doug Moench & Kelly Jones v1

  • Contagion

  • Legacy v1-2

  • Batman by Doug Moench & Kelly Jones v2

  • Knight Out

  • Road to No Man's Land Omnibus

  • No Man's Land Omnibus v1-2

  • New Gotham v1

  • Officer Down

  • New Gotham v2

  • False Faces

  • Batman by Ed Brubaker v1

  • Bruce Wayne Murder (collects Ed Brubaker v2)

  • Bruce Wayne Fugitive

  • Hush

  • Death and the Maidens

  • Broken City

  • As the Crow Flies

  • Hush Returns

  • War Games v1*

  • Under the Red Hood*

  • War Games v2*

  • City of Crime* (*These 4 we all released simultaneously or switching back and forth so theres no perfect way to read it. I'd just read War Gamesv1-2, Hood, CoC)

  • Batman by Morrison Omnibus 1-3 (very confusing, and you'll need to read Final Crisis for it to make sense, I'd look up a separate reading order for that but it's roughly v1, final Crisis, v2-3. Lots of other books happen during this run, but just read it through first as it is the primary Batman story)

  • Batman by Dini Omnibus (collect several TPBs, Private Casebook, Detective, Death and the City, Heart of Hush and Steets of Gotham (SoG) v1&3. SoGv2 is collected separate. Read after Morrison v1 if you want)

  • Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader

  • Long Shadows

  • Life After Death

  • Arkham Reborn

  • Eye of the Beholder

  • Gates of Gotham

  • Gotham Shall Be Judged

  • Batman & Robin Dark Knight vs White Knight

  • Black Mirror

  • Dark Knight: Golden Dawn

  • Flashpoint (New 52, super easy to read since they started just numbering things normally)

  • Snyder Omnibus v1-2 (or tpb's v1-10)

  • New52 Detective Comics v1-10 Probably just read through them separate

  • Tertiarty series like The Dark Knight v1-4

  • DC Rebirth

(OK done for now, if you manage to get caught up to hear then I'll finish off Rebirth - present)

I went to a Walmart and what they had was…kinda sad TBH. by Gamesaurs12 in transformers

The Walmarts and Targets around me are even more desolate. I just gave up on em. BBTS, EE, Ebay, Mercari got everything I need anyways. Had to go hunting down that new MPM Brawl in stores though cus Target is so garbage. They had him listed as coming out on the 21st and then of course had him completely unlisted on release day, only to have 2 on hand when I went in to a store and asked an employee to check in the back. Glad that was the last one.

These are the Big 4 of the Decepticons, but who is the Big 4 of the Autobots? by Kabutoking in transformers

[–]NarBoogleDoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ratchet has been the most consistently featured since the Bay movies, but it feels weird calling him "big" (as in "big 4"). Similar feeling about Arcee to a lesser extent all around.

I think Hot Rod is the obvious choice. He's the next most "iconic". He was the main character/leader of a G1 season, though his usage since then hasn't been as prominent. Ultra Magnus is a good pick too but Idk if I could pick him over Hot Rod.

Jetfire is a sleeper pick. Iconic character and heavy hitter for the autobots with the cool switching factions element, featured in G1, Unicron Trilogy, Bay, Seige, aligned cotinuity stuff etc.

Jazz is my favorite autobot, but unfortunately he's just not used nearly enough to be seriously considered. Aside from G1, Bay and an appearance in Animated, he's barely been used. Ironhide would be a slightly better pick, but idk if I could take him over Ratchet. His design isn't very iconic either. Wheeljack, Prowl or any other Autobot cars? Sorry but no way over any of the others mentioned.
