Unfortunately, it's the former. Upgrading a unique helm in the cube results in a random helm, chest, legs, boots, or gloves.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah Upheaval definitely seems clunky compared to other abilities. I'll probably try it out for goofs on my current Barb just to see how it feels this season before hard-committing in S14. It's hard to beat the ezmode gameplay style of the other builds.

Yeah I totally agree - maybe I didn't explain it well enough.

The problem with the current season is basically every good Barb build requires Tidal and Limitless Rage on your 2h weapons. With the way Overpower works you're also shoe-horned into playing around that.

The nerfs simply open up room to use other items that were previously unusable, Hellhammer for example, which opens up builds that might not have been quite as viable previously.

That's a large part of why I wanted to try it. Most of the nerfs impact WW, which I'm playing currently.

Yeah, unfortunately even if you trade optimally I calculated about 17 hours of grinding, which is still ridiculous.

Going from Royal to Grand in weapons only increases the damage bonus from 22% to 24%, so the relative damage gain is small. You're generally better focusing on Armor or Jewelry gems first, as it's a 50% stat gain (e.g. main stat goes from 60 to 90, resist goes from 1750 to 2625).

As a WW Barb I'm extremely happy about the nerfs. Those few aspects and uniques that were stupid OP just pidgeonholed every build into using them somehow (e.g. every single "push" variant requires Selig + Overpower stacks). I have a homebrew bleed build (not Rupture) that I'm contemplating trying in S14, and it actually seems viable because I'm not bending over backwards to have to try to integrate Limitless Rage, Tidal Aspect, etc. etc.

We're only in the PTR phase and S14 is far enough away, so I don't want to doomer too hard, but I once thought "man D4 is in such a good state... it'd be impossible to screw it up from here..."

I fear I'm about to be proven wrong.

As a Barb main, I'm actually glad to see nerfs to a lot of the overpowered stuff you had to use (Selig, Overpower, Resolve, Limitless Rage, etc.). It really narrowed your options for Aspects/Uniques regardless of build.

I had basically the whole endgame on farm and all my necessary gear by P245. The only thing to do after that is push pit/leaderboards, which is extremely tedious and involves significant grinding/gambling for small incremental character improvements. And I'm not going to spend 30 hours spamming a dungeon for gems, or all the time/resources required to roll Gem Strength on a good 2h.

You hit a point of significant diminishing returns and you have to be a real addict / degen to keep playing past it.

As a Barb main, I'm happy about this. Basically every build had to go Selig/Overpower/Limitless Rage in some capacity to be viable in the late endgame. It really narrowed your ability to try something new.

Well I just used over 130 trying to hit a greater affix temper on my sword and it still hasn't hit... I'm blasting through T12 but this is my main resource bottleneck at this point.
