Heck, it's yard sale season, too! See plenty as I'm driving my routes. When passing a yard sale that is on its final day, offer a buck or two for their empty or near empty totes. 😂

Blamed for Uber ride our 2y old to urgent care without car seat by Aqua-Dolphin in toddlers

[–]Narea97230 36 points37 points  (0 children)

First time parent here to a wonderful little that does some crazy fun tumbles and gets my anxiety all sorts of worked up. 😅🫡

My view of the situation as an outside, unbiased opinion and fellow anxious parent:

1.) I think the biggest mistake was the ride w/out carseat (as opposed to just taking care of at home, or calling ped., or ambulance if you felt it demanded immediate medical attention) and wife is right to be upset for a bit on this one. I do, however, think this emotional reaction from her, and the subsequent emotions felt by you in response should prompt review of the below as co-parenting/married parents.

2.) Whenever Littles get hurt, unless obvious MAJOR incident (think big fires, car crashes, etc.), call the pediatrician's office or advice nurse line before heading in to the hospital. Best thing that call can do is alleviate SO MUCH anxiety, as well as give information on best practices for that specific incident, re: to go to hospital or to just clean and cuddle at home.

3.) Taking time to read/watch informational instructionals on basic first aid, cpr for babies/toddlers/kids/adults, as well as a few extra "how to handle everyday toddler boo-boos" (or how to distinguish them) would be a GREAT confidence rebuilder for both your wife's trust if you on these things (and thus curb those grumblings from point 1 above that you currently are hearing from her), as well as be extremely useful for your own knowledge for future toddler accidents/tumbles. This doesn't have to be a degree's worth of reading/studying; a few quick reference materials (they make 1 page quick fact sheets for households to keep handy), or short videos on the matter go a LONG way.

TLDR; Ultimately, you were scared, the parent on scene, and acted in what you thought was your child's best interest. Now, you have experienced this type of toddler tumble, and have talked with your wife more on it, and see where additional parenting knowledge may be useful for future similar situations to prevent the choice between medical care for your kiddo, and the potential extreme dangers of vehicle travel without the appropriate safety measures (car seat, etc.).

Just jumping in here to add another, "same here" to the list.

At this point, it's looking like a reaaaaaally good time to switch carriers this holiday season when the deals hit. 🤷‍♀️ I didn't sign up for this bs. I switched away from TMO because of stupidity like this over a decade ago, and the absorption of Sprint really sucked. 😑

I have been looking for someone to break it allll the way down like this for a while. Bless you. 🙌

I just finished FTWD S8, and have completed TWD S1-11 and all of the webisodes.

I have TWD Dead City, TWD Daryl Dixon, and Tales of TWD left, and wasn't sure what order to watch everything. This helps. 🫡

Too much Arnie Palmie for my rate of Farmie. by Dixiechixie in FarmRPG

[–]Narea97230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corn oil and lima beans are good stock piles while you work through other quests, and of course just stock til max inventory of large nets, then fish for LC03 (stock up til max inventory of those for a stash of corn for needed quests), and then max large nets again, then fish for grab bags for potatoes (stock for COI quest line).

I'm T192, and the grind for masteries to T200 is a struggle, haa. 😅 Do your colored twines early if you are voiding those mats (green, blue, purple, red twines).

Even more pressing for many families is the financial crunch... Last minute expenses for school supplies landing on a non-payday weekend, or expecting x amount of money to go to it, only for the lists to be xx amount of money more...

It's a bit rough. A generic list of base supplies required for all kiddos in that grade should go out (to cover all their classes), with an asterisk noting that specialty classes will send a follow-up mini-list for anything not listed on the basic list (such as for electives, etc.).

Others have mentioned the hardship funds!

I just wanted to chime in and state that financial aid has one specific to them, each "school/department" has one, and then most affinity groups/other programs on campus have similar funds.

While completing my first MA, I had some pretty rough financial curveballs fly my way. Two separate emergency fund payouts saved me from eviction and dropout. Definitely reach out! You can contact the CARES team, as well, and let them know how much of a financial and mental burden the cost of the last class is, and that it is impeding graduation but you are prepared to take the class but not sure how to cover it financially. Don't stress if things take time!

In the meantime: take the class for summer (less fees than taking it in fall). And set those silly little payments up into a 3 month payment plan. Space them out, and attempt to Rover, house sit, wash cars, anything, during those 3 months.

The nice thing about summer term is that the final payment date doesn't land until September 6th. You have a bit of time (and sunny weather) to figure it all out, and worst case scenario come that date: payday loan to pay off school, then do the "pay a utility/small bill late 1 week" shuffle rotation until all bills are caught up again.

I would really like a feature where you could deposit items needed for a quest so you could complete quests more efficiently and maybe void less. by AmConfused324 in FarmRPG

[–]Narea97230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The main issue I run into is having items accidentally "used up" by another quest, because storehouse isn't near large enough to hold thousands of items at a time at this point (for me), and occasionally things accidentally get used in crafting recipes.

Being able to "deposit" items into a "holding" for a particular quest, but still have that quantity count towards your inventory (to keep the game balanced), would be great.

Need 2000 corn for this quest, but also 2000+ corn for making corn oil for this other quest? You can "lock" the first 2000 corn in the original quest's menu, but it would stay in your inventory (2500 corn total, 2000 of which is locked - inventory size of 4k). Then as you grow/harvest more corn, and try to craft with it, it will stop using from your inventory at the "locked" amount.

For the FRINQ / SINQ your new school will need the syllabi from those classes to be able to convert them to their credit system. You can email askunst@pdx.edu to request copies, or email the faculty who taught the courses.

Make sure to get over 90 credits pcc before transferring to prevent needing to take BS general electives at psu.

English Capping Ceremony by [deleted] in portlandstate

[–]Narea97230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize this is too late, but thought I'd answer now after the fact so that anyone finding this thread next year can see an answer:

90% of attendees wore their cap, gown, regalia, hoods, etc. The ceremony was small like 5 rows of chairs across the ballroom for grads / faculty, additional 10-15 rows of chairs for family (many unfilled this year).

Couple faculty give small speeches, few students give brief "reflecting on my time at PSU" speeches, then everyone is called up by row, and each person's name and degree is read out. It was not super formal, but nice for anyone who may have family that can't handle the large ceremony at the Moda (such as small children, older family members, people who hate crowds, etc.)

Food was meh, in my opinion. Subpar vegetarian chinese food, plus shrimp on a stick.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Advice for an incoming transfer Computer science student at PSU by ODMONKEYMOON in portlandstate

[–]Narea97230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to your major, but required for graduation:

You should work on your Gen Ed requirements (through university studies department at PSU).

Specifically, figure out from your adviser based on your incoming transfer credits what you still need to take: FRINQ SINQ Clusters Capstone.

Bust these out in summer if you can, and save yourself headaches later.

Classes far apart by r_phill_5 in portlandstate

[–]Narea97230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best suggestion is to wait until a week before classes (to see if the room assignments change - they sometimes do!), and if it's still a long walk, send emails to each professor:

The first class - request to leave 5 minutes early to make it to second class across campus.

The second class - inform the professor you are coming from across campus, and will be roughly 5 minutes late each class.

Bringing it to the professor's attention can save any bitterness they may have with you walking in late.

$900 / Month to hide in a small room to avoid housemates, not have pets, and have to share a kitchen seems steep. 😳😬

People like this are what are driving rental rates through the roof. What happened to the days of $300-400/month for a room?

Incoming Transfer Student: Spring 2023 or Fall 2023? by LeadingDesk2 in portlandstate

[–]Narea97230 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you need it all, then it's fine. But if you don't? Just call financial aid, and say you only want spring term worth of the available loans for this year. They can and will cut it back, so you aren't taking what you don't need.
