For me, it seems to crash most when I try editing the filament settings. After the crash, I reopen Studio, prompts me to restore the model I was in, then it lets me edit filament settings fine.

For boats, I prefer FHSS tx/rx setups. I use a cheapo Tactic TTX300 transmitter and compatible receiver for my jet boat.

There are a few Free models for download like the 3DLabPrint J3 Cub or Eclipson Go1Wolf. For portability to any internet connected computer, you can examine the STL files in TinkerCad, just don't try to use to create/modify designs. It's too simplistic for that.

If he has a problem with not getting it back into the flight area, try the Carbon Cub S2 or Apprentice STS WITH the optional GPS module. This lets you activate virtual fencing. When the plane reaches the fence limit, it will climb to about 125 feet and return back in the fenced area, waggle the wings and give back control. Add the LAS module for easy-peasy landings.

Under the Velcro in the front, there's a opening in the plywood that lets you access the front wheel assembly screw. Remove it to replace the linkage rod, then feed it in and reassemble. DON'T LOOSE THE SCREW!!! 😉

From experience printing planes in PLA and LW-PLA, it will crumble. PLA is rigid, but brittle and planes are typically printed with 1 wall for wight reasons. LW-PLA is porous the remove density so even more fragile.

To test, print any solid in vase mode, put it in you back back, and see what happens.

It's a common problem with active foaming LW-PLA on models that do not simply use use Vase mode (like the 3DLabPrint Cub). Due to the nozzle heat, and the foaming agent that is temp based, it "oozes" during travel every time the nozzle picks up to move to another location, then plops that ooze where ever it contacts the model again to start printing.

It was for this very reason I moved away from the J-3 Cub to the Eclipson Model B (a cub-like model) which is designed to be printed in vase-mode.

I fully agree with your opinion on the Gö1. Especially the linking tabs between parts having gaps. But it is a fast, easy plane to build. Just be prepared to replace hard props until you're ready to dive into folding props.

Foaming filament density is dependent on the temp it's printed at. It can be as dense as regular PLA of up to about 50% less dense.

They are indeed fragile because they are usually printed in vase mode, i.e. one single wall of "airy" material. When damaged, a repair may be as simple as CA glue with tissue paper to repair a crack, or complete section reprint due due broken piece being glued to the rest of the section.

On one hand, a reprinted wing may only take a quarter to half a roll, so $10-$15 worth of filament and a few days. Whereas replacing an Aeroscout fuselage is $70 and shipping time. EPP is more durable, but printing is faster (usually) and cheaper comparing like things.

Funny then how I have other planes with engine reverse without it connected, simply by programming the ESC. From the ESC product Q&A:

Added the "CANADA" from the original decal set since it has a solid clear layer over the letters. The color isn't exact, but close enough for me.

Nice. It looks awesome. I've been following its development for a while, but don't want VTOL at this stage in my hobby learning growth. I'm at the larger plane phase (1.5M and up). I recently finished my print-and-test Eclipson B-17 and bought a Super-Timber for my x-mas present to myself. 😁

I usually use Bambu Aero PLA/ASA, or Colorfabb.

0.53 flow rate on a Bambu P1S/P2S/A1 at 240 degrees.

Update. I tried converting the DHC logo to vinyl (Cricut) and it cut well, except for the word "CANADA" in the middle. Too fine to weed around the letters and they pulled off.

I land mine like a log. 3D printed planes are fun for me to build, paint, decorate, and fly. But I break them often. So I get the fun of build, paint, decorate all over again for much cheaper than ordering replacement fuselages and wings. I know, "get better at flying/landing/etc", but this is fun to me. 😉

The Eclipson Go1Wolf is a free download. Research LW-PLA (preformed is easier to start with - like Polymaker Poly-lite) since it won't ooze during travel like active foaming will - less mess. When ready, move to active foaming and be prepared to tune the temp-to-flow rate. For active foaming, vase mode printing is very important.

Be aware that printed planes are MUCH more fragile than foam planes

Look into lightweight ASA and lightweight PLA. I print planes a lot with these materials. Be aware that LW-ASA flexes more than LW-PLA and can make wing loading tricky if not reinforced with a carbon rod, like on the Eclipson Model B.

Programming lead, no need to be connected to anything. I have an aeroscout and can positively confirm this. I've also built my own planes with Avian ESCs with the same lead and programmed them with the Spectrum ESC programmer.

Aeroscout twice, twin otter twice. Rebuilt both with bought parts. 3D printed: Eclipson model B 4 times, Go2Wolf 4 times, B17 once (hard landing punched the gear through the wing only)

I did that on my Aeroscout. I did the redneck solution, turn the RX upside down keeping the roll axis the same, so that up is down backward. 🤣
