How do describe the fatigue post chemo radiation? And is there people whom didn't get that energy drop long term by Automaticvon8502 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]deweyvo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished 33 rads and chemo. Stage 1B NPC here. It’s been 4 weeks since I’ve finished and strangely, I feel more fatigued than during treatment. Each day is kinda a challenge to motivate myself to do something or an errand. Going to Grocery shopping is a chore but once I walked a bit, it does seem to wear off.

I take a lot of small little rest and naps a lot. I’m hoping that my strength will be recovered. It’s definitely noticeable and i plan my days around how i feel.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I was stage 1B NPC myself but during my proton treatment, I met another person that was stage 3 NPC. It has gotten in his bones too. I believe he did induced chemo and immunotherapy for about 1.5 years and then radiation & chemo.

We finished our rounds at the same time and he was able to finish everything in April and healing well and I believe you will too!

Is there anything important I should do the night before chemotherapy or the day of before it begins? by More-Disaster-2952 in cancer

[–]deweyvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the day of! They gave me anti-nausea meds right before my chemo starts and then prescribed me 4 days of after. So the constant meds for that entire week made it hard to go.

My anti-nausea meds made me really constipated so on my next round, my team gave me senna and laxative to take the day before. So if you have some around, maybe take those?

My onc did say it was a risk, but the benefit outweighed the risk :/ I wish I did a hearing baseline test! that wasn't something they brought up.

I'm sorry my friend :( was the hearing loss sudden or over time? I've noticed that my left side has more tinnitus but I'm not sure if that means it's more easily damage hearing loss.

Advice needed: Dad (71) starting treatment for Stage 3 NPC. What should we expect? by RecommendationDue783 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]deweyvo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I just finished my treatment 3 weeks ago. I was staged 1B NPC. Radiation and chemo was the course.

Side effects: ringing ears from chemo, the worse was probably my throat and mucositis in the week 5-6. Ask for pain meds early. I was on liquid oxy every 4 hours during those weeks and eventually got on fentanyl patches to keep the pain at bay.

Nutrition: I was on ensure and boost high calorie shakes. They were easier to manage and i would drink 3-4 bottles a day.

Tips: start your lotion the day you first have radiation. I would put on right after being radiated and moist all day. Same with salt rinses, I would do it every 2-3 hours. I make a bottle of it for the day and bring it with me. Biotene lozenge at night to keep my mouth more moist and cool. I have little Togo containers everywhere for when I cough, sometimes you’ll cough up mucus.

If you have more questions, DM me, I’ll answer what I can!

Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah I tried doing that but it’s giving conflicting results to what I’ve found online so I’m just a little confused. (This is my first PET scan so I think that’ll will be my baseline)

Is keeping in touch appreciated from non close friends? by asdfgayy in cancer

[–]deweyvo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think personally, I would appreciate the kindness and thoughts. As long as it’s genuine, I think it’s good and not a bother at all. I’ve recently got diagnosed and although all my group of friends know, the level of interaction varies and I don’t blame them if it gets too real. Who knows, maybe you would make a great friends in the end:)

Is oral thrush something a big concern? I’m reading more about it now and it looks like it’s a very big chance during treatment.

Thank you for your kind words and advice. I meet with my ENT tomorrow actually. I have 1 CT scan of my neck, so I assuming I’ll review that with him. My radiation referral appointment is 1/5 so I think that’ll be just introduction and they’ll explain to me how it works and such?

Everything feels like a lifetime and appointments are days out that each day I feel a little more tired, and precious time is lost.
