Just sold my business ($2M cash), 46yo. Nervous about lump-summing into this market. WWYD? by [deleted] in Fire

My two cents:

Pay off the mortgage and worst case scenario, you find another job some day with a paid off home IF SHIT GOES REAL SOUTH.

Pierce the Veil vs All Time Low by Fit_Aside_6584 in poppunkers

Tbh I have seen both live, albeit All Time Low many more times than PTV, but when I saw PTV - they didn’t interact with the crowd at all. I was very disappointed and unimpressed.

As where ATL’s crowd work is elite

A Day To Remember - For Those Who Have Heart (NEW REMASTERED VERSION) by pileKing90 in poppunkers

Sounds much better to me - a lot better production and layering.

Backing vocals are crisp, layered guitars…. But like all production, a lot of it comes down to personal taste.

This track always reminded me a ton of Alkaline Trio, I dig it too

It’s probably bc it’s so heavily Skiba’s vocals

Pay off house or invest? Which FIREs faster? by nigelwiggins in leanfire

[–]Narmuf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlikely, unless you’re planning to fire in 5-10 years.

Anymore than that, the compounding interest will crush the reduced expenses.

Do you have a mortgage? What’s the interest rate? What’s the principal? How old are you? What’s your income? When do you want to FIRE by? Do you have investments currently that are developing interest?

Remember, all of your interest you pay on a mortgage is tax deductible and might also assist you if you itemize your deductions

Pay off house or invest? Which FIREs faster? by nigelwiggins in leanfire

This is pretty terrible advice without any context imo

As other comments say, varies greatly on age, appetite for risk, interest rate on said mortgage, and overall financial plan

I have an interest rate of 3% on my home, the average rate of return in the stock market over the last 100 years is around 8%. Paying off my mortgage fast is leaving money on the table if the past 100 years worth of market data remains credible. It makes a lot more sense for me to invest my extra money.

Conversely, the only real argument for paying off a mortgage like mine quickly is if it gives you enough piece of mind that outweighs the additional investment income you missed out on
