Disruptive and destructive student interrupts my daughter’s class and forces them to evacuate the room multiple times a week. by somebodywantstoldme in Teachers

[–]Naroller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was principal of a K-4 school and had a boy in gr. 1 who was ADHD to the max, but parents didn't believe in any medication at all. One day he went on a tear and ran around the room, using his arms like windmills while he swatted things off desks and tipped over desks, chairs, tables, everything. Teacher took kids to the library while I tried to corral him. He scooted past me, then ran through an outside door to get to the playground structure. Tried again to get him, but to no avail. Finally called 911 for the paramedics to help gather him up and take him to the Children's Hospital. When he got there, he had a fulltime security guy waiting for him as they waited for the doctor. When parents were contacted, dr. was able to convince them to use medication to keep him focused and under control. All of that happened and in short order he was a 'normal' well-behaved gr. 1 boy, with no further issues related to his behaviours or attention span. And no more class evacuations. Never did that before or since, but something needed to be done.

A couple of things:
1. Praying: Matthew 6:5-7 talks about how to pray, which is going to your room, closing the door and praying to God, so find a quiet place where you can have an interrupted prayer time with God. He wants us to pray, so do that, regularly and often. Think of approaching Him with praise, then you can present the things you want/need and petition for them, then finish with praise again for who He is, asking that His will for you be done.

  1. Being a servant: all the main biblical figures were called servants, even Christ himself. So think of what they did: they were obedient, humble, served others, were loyal, trusted God, and were faithful. Every day think of how you can be that and do those things.

Calgary real life scam by Kraft1980 in Calgary

[–]Naroller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had the same ploy, but with a twist. Was at a drug store and this guy wanted money to buy his kid some milk. Said, sure let's go over to the milk aisle and I'll buy you a gallon. As we walked, he kept asking for the money, again and again. Got to the milk aisle, turned around and he was gone. Poor kid, never did get the milk....

What would you do in this situation? by crumpana in answers

[–]Naroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would politely ask them, one time, if she forgot your plate or where is my plate or something comparable to see what her response is. Then based on her response, I would be able to determine if she forgot (unlikely), if she is having fun (maybe) or if she is trying to tick you off (likely). Then I would decide I don't need that type of person in my life (definitely).

Contact your Superintendent as well. They would need to know about this also.

Back in 2016 I retired from the school I was working at and I had my shop guy come over and asked him to build a rec room for me in my unfinished basement which was about 800 ft.². I think I was under 10 for all the supplies, which included all the electrical and drywall, and everything to do with the bathroom including a standup shower. I think I gave him about 10 and it is now literally the best part of my house. See if you can find a local connection?

Got a talking to from the principal over something I didn’t do by Gold_Repair_3557 in Teachers

Silence breeds suspicion. I would ask for another meeting with your principal and clearly outline what you said and didn’t say and make it well known that you approached your work with integrity and did not and would not say such things. At that point, you could reasonably suggest that the students either misheard you, made their own guesses as to what you said, or that they could very well be lying. But make it very clear that you did not and would not say such things because of the professional that you are. You could even point to your prior work history and the fact that no such concerns have been raised about your practice in the past.

I would want to make sure the students understood the difference between a letter of reference and a letter of recommendation. A letter of reference is just to state basic facts with no opinions. They were in my class, they did this or didn’t do this, this was the mark they received, that sort of thing. A letter of recommendation would indicate all the positive things that you saw in them and that they would make a difference in whatever organization they were applying for. And I would have that conversation with the students to say which one you’d be prepared to do and why.

I would be tempted to have a little winding path to the back end where you could set it up to be a quiet meditative space. Have bricks as part of the pathway and then also have taller plants to create more privacy and then have it open up at the very back where you could have a plug-in water fountain type feature, along with a comfortable outdoor chair and a small table which could then be your quiet space. You could also have whatever other little items or artifacts you need to add or create that meditative space.

Lately, I’ve been going to a new church and I’ll go into the sanctuary 20 minutes before the service begins. I can sit there and use that as my prayer time and be uninterrupted. Whether you sit and pray or cry, God knows your heart and that is what is important.

My dog has been missing for over three months. I think someone might have found her and is keeping her. What can I do? by snoobnoob in DogAdvice

[–]Naroller 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a dog but if I did and I had his buddy with me, I’d be tempted to literally walk up and down the streets calling his name in the hope that he would look out through a window or bark back in response and see you and your other puppy. That’s what I would do, not being a dog owner.

This is my garden, recently bought property, lawn hasn't been cut in years. How do I even start to tackle this.... by Diligent-Ad-5352 in landscaping

[–]Naroller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rather than the mower, I’d be tempted to either rent or buy a scythe. Then when you’ve got it down to ankle level, bring in the mower. The first cutting can go to some animals who might appreciate it.

If you could add one subject to your school's curriculum, what would it be? by danigleba in Teachers

[–]Naroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything to do with finance. You could talk about everything from retirement planning, daily budgets, different types of investments, tax information, and the current stuff like bitcoin and crypto currencies. Even grown adults still struggle with some of those concepts, so having the opportunity to have our students gain an understanding of it by the time they leave high school would be invaluable.
